1 8 th 11 th May 2014 UPAD st INTERNATIONAL URBAN PLANNING-ARCHITECTURE-DESIGN CONGRESS Kocaeli University Faculty of Architecture and Design since its establishment- aims to support Kocaeli and its periphery as an education field, and to contribute to Eastern Marmara, Turkey and International Academia in terms of research and implementation practices, with its academic-researcher-designer-practicer-scientist staff potentiality and the educational and research experience. In this context, a congress titled 1st International Urban Planning-Architecture-Design Congress is being organised in order to bring together the scientists of the field within an activity of international content and quality. In the broadest approach, the objective of the congress is to create a medium for academic, civil society and governmental stakeholders for sharing ideas, projects, research and critics on urban planning, architecture and design. The congress -which will be held on May 8-11, 2014 with a special focus on Kocaeli and the experience on city/architecture/design- will contribute with the educational aspect on the identity of transferring scientific knowledge, and it will also support the qualified medium of producing scientific knowledge making use of the research aspect. Paper and poster presentations are welcome for the congress. Official languages for the event are Turkish and English. Abstracts for the presentations will be asked to be submitted in a format prepared in Turkish and English. Although both languages will be accepted, English language is considered preferable for wider international prevalence of the congress. During the congress, abstracts and full-papers of the presentations in Turkish and English will be presented to the contributors and panelists in a digital medium. MAIN THEME AND GENERAL GOALS OF THE CONGRESS Main theme of the congress is Urban Transformation : Economic, Social and Physical Aspects and will be held with the integrated approach of the related titles of Urban Design- Architecture-Design agenda in means of the world, Turkey and/or Kocaeli. Related goals of the congress are summarized below. Arranging an interdisciplinary atmosphere for international academia members, actors and stakeholders from Kocaeli Province, and Urban Planning, Architecture and Design professionals for sharing information, experience and ideas. Producing an experience and information base for government agencies and civil society actors to move beyond existing practices of Urban Transformation. To foster and support Kocaeli University s knowledge generation capacity in fields of Urban Planning, Architecture and Design. 1

Abstracts of maximum 400 words are expected to be submitted through congress web portal (docx., doc.,.rtf or.pdf file formats). The abstracts to be prepared in accordance with downloadable and attached abstract formats are expected to cover; title of the paper, aim, purpose, method, expected results, keywords, and author(s) name-surname, academic titles, affiliated institution.
