1 Appendix SP-2 UCC 128 Label Requirements GS1-128 CARTON LABELING All cartons being shipped to Kohl s stores or distribution centers must have a compliant Kohl s GS1-128 carton label. These logistical labels play a critical component in efficiently moving merchandise through Kohl s supply chain. GS1 US (Formerly the Uniform Code Council): GS1 is the global standards authority for item (UPC and EAN) and logistical numbering. In addition to managing numbering assignments, GS1 provides the retail industry guidelines for supply chain identification. Every country has a regional organization and GS1 US is the non-profit organization in the United States. Kohl s carton label requirements adhere to the guidelines from the GS1 General Specifications 7.0. Vendors should submit label samples for each respective label format and shipping location. A prerequisite for proper carton labeling is that Vendors must be EDI/ASN active inch [31.75 mm] minimum inch [.508 mm] minimum 0.25 inch [6.35 mm] minimum. (Left & Right Quiet Zone) The human readable SSCC-18 number, that is printed above the bar code, must be printed in a bold font, no smaller than 12pt. GS1-128 Label Placement: General Guidelines

6 If carton contents and address are included as part of the GS1-128 Label in a human readable format, an additional label for this purpose is not required. Each carton is required to have one GS1-128 label. Labels must be placed on the longest side of the carton (not the front or back), in the lower right quadrant. Place in an upright position. Barcode must be read vertically. Do not place sideways or diagonally. The SSCC-18 bar code on the carton label must be 3.0 inches from either vertical edge of the carton and no less than 1.25 inches up from the bottom horizontal edge. Do not place SSCC-18 bar code over a flap seam or around the corners of a carton. Do not place tape over any bar code. Do not place labels over product ID Numbers, UPC Bar Codes, retail price or other consumer information on merchandise shipped and presented for selling in the same carton. If there is stenciling on the cartons, leave the lower right hand quadrant of the longest side of the carton vacant for the GS1-128 label. Placement on cartons 7.5 inches in height and above. SSCC-18 Bar Code must cover this band and label must always be in bottom right. Label Placement: Cartons 7.5 or 19cm in or Less Overlapped Side to Top Placement One GS1-128 label per carton 3 inches from Vertical edge No less than 1.25 inches from the bottom edge of carton. The SSCC-18 barcode on a carton label must not be folded, wrinkled or wrapped around the edges or corners of the carton. The part of the label that contains the SSCC-18 bar code must be visible on the side of the carton as pictured below. The remainder of the label is applied to the top of the carton. Note: The label can be applied over stencil marks if needed. Top Side

7 Top Placement Vendors who are authorized to ship in cartons that are less then 3 in height, may place the GS1-128 label on the top of the carton The label must be placed consistently in one corner on the top of the carton The SSCC-18 barcode should be positioned so that it is not across a seam or around any corner or edge of the carton Front
