14 Controlled access zones GUIDELINES: Erected not less than 6' nor more than 25' from the unprotected or leading edge. Must extend along the entire length of & be approximately parallel to the unprotected or leading edge. Control line must be connected on each side to a guardrail system or wall. Must consist of ropes, wires, tapes or equivalent materials, & supporting stanchions as follows: Each line fagged or otherwise clearly marked at not more than 6' Intervals with high visibility materials. In general, each line must be rigged & supported such that its lowest point is not less than 39" & its highest point is not greater than 45" from the working surface. Page 14

Material stored within 6' of edge unless guardrails have been installed and material is stable and self-supporting. Canopies must be strong enough not to collapse and prevent penetration of objects. 19 Warning line systems Erected around all sides of roof work area. No mechanical equipment in use outside the warning line. Roof access points to be guarded. Flag with high visibility material. No lower than 34" nor higher than 39". Page 19
20 Safety monitoring systems Competent person to monitor. On same level, in visual sight of workers. Close enough to communicate, orally. No mechanical equipment to be used or stored in area. Only employees engaged in roofing work or covered by a fall protection plan in area. Employees must comply with warnings from monitors. Monitor shall have no other duties. Page 20
21 Safety monitoring systems The employer shall designate a competent person to monitor other employees who shall be: Competent to recognize fall hazards. Able to warn the employee who appears unaware of the hazard or is acting in an unsafe manner. On the same walking/ working surface & within visual sighting distance. Page 21
