5 Our engagement with Brazil Our engagement with Brazil is energised by our Latin America working group and the Aberdeen Institute of Energy (AiE) We have over 50 Brazilian students We are part of the group of UK universities participating in Science without Borders UK (Ciência sem Fronteiras UK) Brazilian academics as part of the Latin America working group Resourced by a dedicated Development Officer for Latin America 500+ joint publications with Brazilian researchers since 1982 (Web of Science) /study/international/inmycountry/brazil/

11 Current projects Focus on Earth Science 4-year research project with 4 Brazilian partners (UFPE, UFBA, UFRN and ON) and 2 UK partners (Cambridge and Oxford) on the geological evolution and resource potential of the onshore Parnaíba Basin Joint research project with UNISINOS, cosupervising Masters and PhD students in Geosciences Deep Marine System Tools project with UFRGS, integrating groups in the two universities Joint research project on the geological structure of the Brazilian continental margin, based in a lab in UFRGS
