1 Spring 2015 ASWSUS Elections Candidate Registration ASWSU Spokane Student Government Election Spring 2015 This packet is for your information and use during the coming election period. It contains an Election Calendar and Election Rules. Please take time to thoroughly read through the materials, especially the Election Rules. It is your responsibility to see that you or others campaigning on your behalf follow the Election Rules. Ignorance of the rules is not an excuse. For any questions consult the ASWSU Spokane Constitution and By-Laws (available on the ASWSU Spokane website) or contact the election committee by at: POSITIONS AVAILABLE: Executive Positions: ASWSUS President and ASWSUS Vice President *The ASWSUS President and Vice President must run together on the same ticket Legislative (Senator) Positions: Nursing (2 positions) Pharmacy (2 positions) Education (1 position) Speech & Hearing Sciences (1 position) Criminal Justice (1 position) Health Policy Administration (1 position) Nutrition & Exercise Physiology (1 position) *Each senator must run on their own ticket ASWSUS Election Calendar Spring 2015 February 10, 2015 February 20, 2015: Candidate filing period Filing begins at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 10th and ends at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, February 20th. February 20, 2015: Candidate information sent to candidates via Appointments can be made to clarify rules by ing the election committee at February 23, 2015: Mandatory candidate meetings held at 9:00 a.m. (SAC 205), Noon (SAC 147) and 6:00 p.m. (SAC 147). Failure to attend a candidate meeting constitutes an election code violation and can disqualify an applicant from the election. If you cannot attend one of the three meetings, please the Elections Committee to set up a one on one meeting. February 24, 2015 March 6, 2015: Campaigning period Campaigning begins on Tuesday, February 24th at 8:00 a.m. and ends on Friday, March 6th at 5:00 p.m. March 4, 2014 at Noon in SAC 20: Presidential/Vice Presidential Debates (Lunch is provided) March 10th-March 11th, 2015: General Election (Polls close at 5:00 p.m. on March 11th) Voting will be conducted via individualized links sent to each student s WSU address, and a special voting laptop will be available at the Student Affairs office from 8:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m. for students without access to a computer during both days of the General Election. March 13, 2015: All campaign material must be taken down by 5:00 p.m. March 13, 2015: Candidates' expense declarations are due to ASWSUS office by Noon (12:00 p.m.). Expense declarations must be made even if no expenses were incurred by campaigning. March 13, 2015: All alleged violations must be submitted to the ASWSUS office by Noon (12:00 p.m.) for presentation to the Elections Committee. ASWSU Spokane Election Rules (Summary) Please be sure to review the entirety of the ASWSUS Constitution and By-Laws regarding elections. Ignorance of campaign rules is no excuse for a violation of said rules. (See for more info.) Please check with Katie Gilsdorf (SAC 130D; katie.gilsdorf@wsu.edu) to inquire about posting policies for each of the campus buildings, as there Page 1 of 5 Spring 2015 ASWSUS Elections Candidate Registration
2 exists different requirements within each building. General questions should be directed to the elections committee. Only one flier will be permitted per posting area (e.g. bulletin board, wall, etc.). Fliers must not be larger than 8.5 x 11 in size. Each candidate is allowed to hang one poster no larger than 19 x27 in each building as long as they are not posted on bulletin boards. Posters or other campaign material cannot be posted on building doors, elevators or other interior walls. All posters need an approval to post stamp from Student Affairs. Candidates are expected to maintain professional discourse throughout the campaign process. Applications must be submitted via OrgSync by 4 p.m. Friday, February 20th, There shall be no active campaigning before 8 a.m. on February 24, 2015 or after 5 p.m. on March 7, All campaign materials are to be taken down by 5 p.m. on March 13, No form of campaigning shall be painted or applied to sidewalks, outdoor walls of buildings, automobiles, telephone poles, or vegetation. Handbills may be distributed inside WSU Spokane buildings provided those doing so take the responsibility of cleaning up loose leaflets or other campaign material. Handbills may not be put on vehicles in the WSU Spokane parking lot. Additionally, there shall be no leafleting in classrooms or computer labs or within sight of a polling station. Candidates will not campaign in a manner that interferes with classes or administrative operations. Expenses for each candidate are limited to $75 and each ticket is limited to $150. The only people allowed to remove campaign materials are the candidates themselves or their authorized representatives. All candidates are responsible for any and all damage or litter caused by the forms of campaigning they use. The Election Committee has the right to interpret all election rules unless there are extenuating circumstances and the Election Committee will hear the extenuating circumstances.
