One Stop Shopping: Enhancing Document Delivery Services for Distance Learners 2013 ILLiad International Conference Virginia Beach, Virginia, March 2013 Angela Dunnington Southeastern Louisiana University
Abstract and Session Objectives Distance education programs in the health fields at Southeastern Louisiana University are increasing. Access to information on two campuses becomes complicated to accommodate working health professionals. In a concerted effort to improve document delivery services, a Document Delivery Ad Hoc Committee was formed to examine existing services for delivering materials housed in Sims Memorial Library and the Baton Rouge Nursing Library. In fall 2012, interlibrary loan absorbed the Distance Learning Request Service. With on click, distance learners use ILLiad to facilitate article and book requests of locally owned items. The presentation details the development of the one stop shopping service and how the library handled the transition in terms of planning, executing, and marketing to faculty and students. Forming a library-wide committee to examine document delivery services Using ILLiad to deliver locally held materials to distance learners Involving staff in streamlining services for distance learners

Document Delivery Ad Hoc Committee Formed July 2011 Consist of 6 members: Health Sciences Librarian (Chair), Distance Learning Librarian, Head of Reference, Systems Librarian, Head of Access Services and Assistant Library Director Committee Charge: To examine existing services for delivering materials housed at the Sims Memorial Library and Baton Rouge Nursing Library and to evaluate the usefulness of the faxed-based Nursing Article Delivery Service.

Document Delivery Service Request Google Docs Form
Document Delivery Ad Hoc Committee Recommendations Cease the Nursing Article Delivery Service. Create the Distance Learning Article Delivery Service to be administered by Distance Learning Librarian. Distance Learning Librarian will redesign Google form for this combined service and coordinate the delivery of articles. Problems exists with existing service and committee recommends to streamline article requests through ILLiad for improved efficiency.
Book and Article Delivery: One Stop Shopping The Pilot Program In fall 2012, interlibrary loan absorbed the Distance Learning Request Form. Now we direct patrons to use ILLiad to facilitate article and book requests for locally held items for distance learners.

Use ILLiad to facilitate article and book requests of locally owned items to distance learners. When we have an ILL request for an article or book chapter that we own electronically or in print, we first look at the patron status then we fill as a document delivery request.
