1 ANIMATION AND GAME DESIGN Final Project/Assessment January 2015 PROJECT OBJECTIVES: To demonstrate the ability to create a game or animation using Game Maker or Alice 3.0. To create instructions for the user of the designed game/animation. To design a promotional campaign to market the game/animation to the appropriate audience including a product package and a one-page advertisement. PART A Game/Animation PART B Product Packaging Design FINAL PROJECT FILES MUST BE ED TO [email protected]. Page 1
2 IMPORTANT INFORMATION Projects are due at the end of class on Thursday January 22, No late work will be accepted. A printed copy of all work must be submitted directly to Mrs. Sattelberg. PRINT SCREEN and then PASTE to a Word document. Make-ups or extensions will be based on approval by school administration. All policies pertaining to absence during examinations apply. Disruptiveness during the final project lab time will not be tolerated and will result in a disciplinary referral and removal from class. No hall passes will be issued during the examination period. Passes will be permitted to the health office. Additional instruction and guidance will be given daily in class therefore it is vital that students attend all classes. Instructions will not be repeated as this is a final project and counts as a final exam grade. This is a final project and counts as the final exam for this course. You are required to use all class time to work on this project. Come to class prepared to work. No games, videos, or use of computers for other work. Phones away at all times. No printing until your project has been reviewed on screen. Page 2
3 ANIMATION AND GAME DESIGN Final Project/Assessment BASIC INFORMATION The Goal of this Project This is your chance to show off everything that you have learned in this course in a project of your choice and design. You can design almost anything you want, to produce something that is interesting, useful and challenging. Think about the project you and other students have created and apply it in a fun way! Audience Projects should be designed to accommodate one of the following audiences: Purpose/Organization Games must have a purposeful, clearly identified goal and must present multiple levels of accomplishment from beginning through advanced. All levels must be age-appropriately challenging. Animations must have a clear story-line and purpose. Instructions for games and animations must appear on screen and be prepared in a typed, printed format. Page 3
4 PART A GAME/ANIMATION OPTION 1 GAME MAKER Create a game using Game Maker 8.1. All games must be preapproved by Mrs. Sattelberg. 1. Your project should be completed in Game Maker It is your responsibility to create this project on your own. 3. Game Makers projects must represent an improvement on any projects that were created during the course. Any click ball or shooter games must show a creative version. Simply changing the background image will not represent a creative, original game. 4. Games should not include any rapid flashing, inappropriate images or messages. 5. Minimum Requirements: 1. 4 Levels/Rooms 2. 5 sprites/objects sprites should include multiple views to be used when changing facing different directions 2 original backgrounds Your game must have a recognizable goal. Game Title, instructions and score reporting must appear on screen. 6. Projects must be saved as a game maker project file (FILE SAVE) and as a executable file (FILE CREATE EXECUTABLE). Both versions of the project must be ed to [email protected] by 2:35pm on Thursday January 22, Place your name in the subject of the . 5 PART A GAME/ANIMATION OPTION 2 ALICE 3.0 Create an animation using Alice 3.0. All animations must be preapproved by Mrs. Sattelberg. 1. Create an animation that will run for at least 2 full minutes. 2. Animations must have a noticeably planned storyline/purpose. 3. Create a full scene within which a main character will travel/move. 4. Have the main character introduce him/herself. 5. Each additional character should be introduced in a purposeful way. 6. A title should appear at the beginning of the animation. 7. Movements and transitions must be smooth. 8. Animations should not include any rapid flashing, inappropriate images or messages. 9. Projects must be saved and ed to [email protected] by 2:35pm on Thursday January 22, Place your name in the subject of the . Print all code and scene showing all objects placed in the scene. Print using the PRINT and/or SCREEN CAPTURE options (FILE PRINT ALL).
