OPIS PRODUKTU The ELEGANT standing seam roof panel is a product that combines tradition with modernity on contemporary architecture, religious buildings and architectural monuments. The ELEGANT standing seam roof panel is a cost-effective, durable and versatile solution. Is can be used on roofs with very low-slope roofs (minimum 14%) and with complex roof structures. It does not require the use of costly roof structure elements as is the case with alternative, heavier roofing. The ELEGANT standing seam roof panels are easy and quick to install due to the use of an installation technique employing ready-to-use snap locks. 4 STANDING SEAM ROOF PANEL ELEGANT GENERAL INFORMATION PACKING The Elegant standing seam roof panels are packed in crates, where they are stacked one on top of the other. Depending on the dimensions of roof panels, one crate contains: for panels of width over 0.50 m, length up to 4 m 70 pcs.; for panels of width over 0.50 m, length over 4 m 50 pcs.; panels of width up to 0.50 m are packed individually. FIG. 3. A CRATE FOR ROOF PANELS To secure the loads where the number of panels is less than maximum, the package is filled with protective material. In the case of longer panels (max mm) the load is centred in reference to the length of the crate. TRANSPORT Trucks with an open-load carrying body or a semi-trailer, allowing for loading on both sides, are the primary means of transport. The following technical conditions are recommended for vehicles intended for transporting panels: an open load-carrying body with a canvas cover ("curtainside" type); the open load-carrying body must be supported along its entire length; transport straps used to secure the load should be placed on the supports of a crate (tightening of straps cannot cause deformation of panels inside the crate). FIG. 4. TRANSPORT OF ROOF PANELS UNLOADING To avoid damaging panels during unloading operations we recommend using a spreader boom or a fork lift. When using a spreader boom, straps must be placed over the supports of a crate. FIG. 5. UNLOADING ROOF PANELS WITH A CRANE When unloading manually, do not slide panels directly one on top of the other or on the floor. Otherwise, organic coating of a panel can be permanently damaged and the appearance of roofing can be negatively affected. When unloading manually, use protective gloves. For unloading operations, we recommend using the following rule: 1 person for unloading each 2,50 m of panels. This is to avoid exposing panels to bending and damage. FIG. 6. MOVING PANELS < 2,50 m 2,50 5,50 m 4

PANEL STORAGE We recommend storing panels in covered, closed and ventilated rooms, away from fertilisers, acids, lye, salt and other corrosive substances. Storing panels without cover is not allowed. Panels must be placed on supports, no less than 250 mm above the ground level or stored in factory packing with film removed. Only two packages may be stored one on the other, arranged at an angle to ensure proper drainage. In the case of short-term storage under a canvas cover (max. two weeks), ensure free flow of air. Should the storage period exceed two weeks, panels must be placed in a properly ventilated space and left uncovered, with the unobstructed access of air to all layers. Failure to observe the above recommendations can cause discolouration of coating, the so-called "white rust", as well as loss of warranty. Do not walk over stored panels or place anything on the packages. FIG. 7. ROOF PANELS STORAGE NOTE! The protective film on the panel surface must be removed no later than 3 weeks after the production date placed on bulk packaging. Otherwise, the film can permanently stick to panel surface. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS Installation methods described in the instructions are exemplary, and their application to different roof types can require modification. Should you encounter any question, please contact the designer or your account manager. To get more information, visit WORK SAFETY During all works performed on the roof - including installation and measurement works, the basic safety rules must be followed. WALKING ON ROOF PANELS When walking on roof panels, one must step on depressions only. Do not step on profiled places! When walking on panels, use soft shoes only. The shoes should be wiped each time before entering the panels (particularly from metal swarf). Installation must be organised to limit walking on roof panels as much as possible. FIG. 8. WALKING ON ROOF PANELS 5

STANDING SEAM ROOF PANEL ELEGANT PERFORMING A DIY MEASUREMENT OF THE ROOF Roof structures are often complex, therefore Balex Metal recommends the installation to be performed by a qualified contractor. If the Customer decides to measure and install roofing as a DIY project, he or she should have basic technical knowledge and consult the project with a professional. L W To specify the necessary panels and timber boarding, it is necessary to measure the roof plane, as shown on Fig Determine the length of the roof plane L corresponding to the length of roof panels and counter battens. 2. Determine the width of the roof plane W. This value defines the length of battens, and when divided by the covering width of a single panel, it also defines the number of the Elegant standing seam roof panels. FIG. 9. PERFORMING A MEASUREMENT OF THE ROOF L W the length of the roof plane the width of the roof plane Measurements should be performed based on the dimensions of the finished roof truss system. When installing roofing as a DIY project, our ready-to-use flashings will be very helpful. Size of battens depends on their spacing as well as the spacing of rafters. The larger this distance, the bigger cross-sectional area of a single batten is required (Table 2). The recommended spacing of battens is 250 mm. DISTANCE BETWEEN BATTENS (0.50 MM THICK) [MM] TABLE DISTANCE BETWEEN RAFTERS [MM] BATTEN SIZE [MM] SCREWS Flat head screws (FIG. 10A and 10C) are used for fastening of the Elegant standing seam roof panels. This type of fastening allows roofing to adapt to temperature changes. For installing the Elegant standing seam roof panels with exposed fastening and flashings, as well as for fastening within valley gutters, self-drilling "farmer" screws are used (FIG. 10B). Screws must be driven with a power screwdriver with a clutch. When driving a screw, care should be taken to set the tightening force so it does not crush the EPDM washer. The EPDM washer should slightly go beyond the edge of the top steel washer. Lapping and splicing should be performed with leak-proof blind rivets (or pop rivets). For roofing made of stainless steel or titanium zinc, stainless steel screws must be used. 7 CUTTING The Elegant standing seam roof panels delivered by Balex Metal are cut to a desired length. When installing roofing, it is necessary to cut them to size in some places, such as corners, valleys, around vents or windows. A Use a power nibbler (FIG. 11A) for cutting panels, and hand shears for flashings (FIG. 11B). Do not use angle grinders and other tools generating high temperatures during cutting using them can damage corrosion protection coatings. Secure the panel before starting the work, beacuse sharp swarf can damage it. After cutting and drilling, carefully remove all metal scrap and swarf that could cause discolouration of panel surface. All damage to coatings caused during installation must be mended with touch-up paint. B FIG. 11. TOOLS FOR INSTALLING THE ELEGANT ROOF PANELS A. Nibbler B. Hand shears ROOF PLANE VENTILATION Before the commencement of installation, pay attention to a proper design of the roof ventilation system. To remove water vapour, air should flow without any obstruction from the eaves to the roof ridge. The underside of panels can suffer damage if roof ventilation is not sufficient. Proper ventilation during hot weather prevents the roof, and thus also the attic, from excessive heating. Therefore always use at least 25 mm thick counter battens and install roof vents on roof planes. FIG. 12. ROOF PLANE VENTILATION ROOF MEMBRANES In reference to vapour control, two solutions can be used with the Elegant standing seam roof panels. The first solution, created especially with flat panel roofs in mind, is the AQMetal structural membrane. The membrane consist of an underlayer and an 8 mm high profiled mat. Besides the base function of providing vapour permeability, the mat maintains clearance between the roof and the drainage layer and allows for roofing movement due to temperature changes. It is intended for installing on full boarding. The second solution is to use the Aspira Plus or the Aspira Standard traditional roof membrane. FIG. 13. INSTALLATION OF THE STRUCTURAL MEMBRANE ON TIMBER BOARDING 7

STANDING SEAM ROOF PANEL ELEGANT DIRECTION OF INSTALLATION OF THE ELEGANT STANDING SEAM ROOF PANELS The Elegant standing seam roof panels can be installed in any direction. When making this decision, it is best to consider winds prevailing in the area. To ensure the highest possible tightness of roofing, panels should be installed in the direction opposite to prevailing winds. (FIG. 14) Direction of panel installation Direction of wind INSTALLATION OF THE GUTTER FLASHING FIG. 14. DIRECTION OF INSTALLATION OF ROOF PANELS The installation of roofing starts with the eave flashing. The gutter flashing is installed straight in the eave line, fastening it first with galvanised nails or flat head screws to the first batten. Next, after checking levelling, fasten the entire fl a s h i n gw i t hs c re w s. If the length of the roof plane requires joining of gutter flashing elements, these are lapped side by side. If battens are made of steel, to reduce the noise due to rain or wind, use the PES sound deadening strip under each sheet. FIG. 15. INSTALLATION OF THE GUTTER FLASHING INSTALLATION OF ROOF PANELS Roof panels are always installed in parallel to the eave line. The first panel must be positioned to be flush with the eave flashing (gutter flashing), and then fasten it with one flat head screw to the first batten in the bottom corner. When installing the first roof panel, pay special attention to laying the panel perpendicularly to the eave flashing. This will facilitate the installation of the remaining panels. FIG. 16. LAYING ROOF PANELS A right angle (90º) can be established with a right-angle shaped tool. 90 FIG. 17. ESTABLISHING A RIGHT ANGLE ON THE ROOF PLANE 8

After establishing a right angle, the inner part of the panel is fastened with screws to each batten. The outer part, in respect to the roof plane is fastened when fitting barge flashing. Until then, the panel should be fastened to prevent it from moving, e.g. due to wind gusts. FASTENING THE ELEGANT STANDING SEAM ROOF PANELS FIG. 18. FASTENING A PANEL TO THE ROOF PLANE A panel is fastened by driving a screw through the centre of a hole. Screws located on the gutter flashing ensure proper position of the flashings. Tighten the screws enough to allow the panel to move due to thermal expansion of steel. Fastening of panels to battens should conform to the following assumptions (Fig. 20): the first and the last two uncut panels are fastened to each batten at the edge for roof panel fastening; panels in between are fastened to the upper batten, to the lowest three battens, and to every other batten in the middle. FIG. 19. FASTENING A ROOF PANEL THE EAVE These rules of installation apply for buildings located at the ground level with the shortest horizontal dimension less than or equal to 12 m and the height of the building not greater than 15 m). Other cases must be consulted with the designer in reference to spacing between battens as well as fastening. FIG. 20. FASTENING OF PANELS TO THE ROOF PLANE 3 Consecutive panels are installed by pressing the panel on its lock rib, moving from the eave to the roof ridge. 2 1 FIG. 21. LAYING CONSECUTIVE PANELS 9

STANDING SEAM ROOF PANEL ELEGANT After snapping the lock, carefully move the panels, so their bottom end is aligned. A rubber mallet can be used for this. Fasten the panel to the battens in accordance with the guidelines, and continue laying panels in their assigned locations. SPLICING PANELS FIG. 22. ALIGNING PANELS AT THE EAVE When the roof plane is longer than the maximum allowable length of roof panels (10 m) it is necessary to splice panels. The width of the overlap of two panels (the B parameter on FIG. 23.) is determined based on the roof slope angle and is min. 200 mm for angles greater than 15º and min. 400 mm for all other slopes. B When more than one splice is needed, we recommend staggering them, as shown on FIG. 24. The distance between splices should be not less than 700 mm. FIG. 23. OVERLAP WHEN SPLICING PANELS Locks of the lower panel are removed at joints (Fig. 26.). The removal of a lock means cutting out the external part of both ridges of the spliced panel along the length corresponding to the length of the overlap FIG. 24. ARRANGEMENT OF PANEL JOINTS ON THE ROOF FIG. 25. CROSS SECTION OF A PANEL JOINT AT THE OVERLAP FIG. 26. CUT-OUT LOCKS OF THE LOWER PANEL 10

When laying another panel, its lock snaps onto the lock of a previously fastened panel. We recommend using a roof sealant or a butyl sealing strip (minimum two bands for roof slopes lower than 30º). The joint of panels can be hammered down along the length of the overlap with a wooden mallet (FIG. 28.). FIG. 27. LAYING ANOTHER PANEL WITH AN OVERLAP At the joint, the lock can be additionally crimped with a hand bending tool (roofing pincers). Following that, fasten panels to battens. FIG. 28. HAMMERING THE JOINT OF PANELS A. Angled roofing pincers B. Straight roofing pincers FIG. 29. TOOLS FOR CRIMPING THE PANEL LOCK FIG. 30. CRIMPING THE PANEL LOCK AT THE OVERLAPS VALLEY GUTTERS A bent valley gutter must be installed before the commencement of the installation of panels. When splicing sheets, we recommend using the overlap of 200 mm and a roof sealant at the overlap. On the bent valley gutter, trace lines for the location of panels in the valley gutter. FIG. 31. INSTALLATION OF THE VALLEY GUTTER 11

STANDING SEAM ROOF PANEL ELEGANT The minimal spacing between the traced lines (defining the position of individual panels) must be at least 200 mm. The metal sheet of the valley gutter must overlap at least 250 mm under the roof panel. To seal the joints between the valley gutter and the standing seam roof panels, hammer their edges at the length of 2 cm (FIG. 33.). This will allow for avoiding blowing rain and snow underneath and extending the life-span of the roof plane. 250 mm 200 mm 250 mm FIG. 32. MARKING THE POSITION OF PANELS IN THE VALLEY GUTTER FIG. 33. HAMMERING THE VALLEY GUTTER AND THE STANDING SEAM ROOF PANEL A triangle-shaped template can be used to mark the cutting angle of panels installed in the valley. The angle is carried over to the consecutive panels, that are then cut to size. Fasten the cut-to-size panel to the ridge of the valley. At the overlap of panels in the gutter valley we recommend using rubber roofing or a butyl strip. During the installation, make sure that the angle of bending of the valley gutter corresponds to the lines traced. If necessary, adjust the shape of the triangleshaped template. FIG. 34. MARKING THE PANEL CUTTING ANGLE FOR ROOF PANELS AT THE VALLEY GUTTER Panels in the valley gutter are fastened with self-drilling screws. For fastening each panel used two self-drilling screws 4.8x20, placing them evenly at the distance of one-third the width of the sheet from each side. FIG. 35. PANELS INSTALLED IN THE VALLEY 12

GABLE OF THE BUILDING Cut the last panel on the roof plane as follows: At the point of plane end, draw a line, and then cut the panel to size, so it reaches 30 mm over the plane edge (FIG. 36). Manual or electric shears may be used for cutting. (FIG. 11) Excess sheet metal must be cut upwards so as to form a standing seam. Then the panel must be fixed to the gable board using screws in pre-drilled holes with the diameter larger by 3 mm. FIG. 36. CUTTING OF THE PANEL ON THE GABLE OF THE BUILDING The barge flashing must be fixed to the gable board with self-drilling screws 4.8x20. The barge flashing must be fixed on the other end of the roof in the same manner. ROOF RIDGE FIG. 37. CROSS-SECTION OF THE RIDGE OF A ROOF COVERED WITH ROOF PANELS The ridge of the roof and the edges where two roof places meet at a wide angle must be protected with a roof ridge. The roof ridge must be fixed in a way that enables flow of air through one or two air voids. This can be achieved, among others with ridge tile flashings for the Elegant standing seam roof panel (PDG). In order to determine the place of installation of the ridge tile flashing, the ridge tile must be placed at the top of the roof and the places where the edges of the tile fit must be marked on the panel. The ridge tile flashings for the Elegant standing seam roof panels (PDG) must be installed 20 mm above the drawn line so as to cover them with the tile. The PDG flashing is fixed to the roof plane (not to the battens!) with two sheet metal screws. FIG. 38. ROOF RIDGE - RIDGE TILE FLASHING FOR A STANDING SEAM ROOF PANEL The ridge tile must be fixed to the flashing with self-drilling screws at intervals that are not larger than 500 mm. The overlap on the roof ridge must be equal to at least 100 mm. FIG. 39. ROOF RIDGE - FIXED ROOF RIDGE TILE 13
