You will follow these steps as you set up proctor caching and configure TestNav:

1 TestNav 8 Proctor Caching Setup Hardware and Software Requirements Before you begin the process of configuring proctor caching for your school or district, take a moment to review the hardware and software requirements for proctor caching, available at Setting up Proctor Caching and Configuring TestNav You will follow these steps as you set up proctor caching and configure TestNav: Download proctor caching installer from PearsonAccess. Run the installer and start proctor caching if it is not already started by the installer. Use SystemCheck from client computer to test network capacity. Create a proctor caching setup or add a proctor caching computer within PearsonAccess at the district or school level. Download and Run Proctor Caching Installer The proctor caching installer is available in PearsonAccess. From the main login page, click the Support tab. Then, click View All Resources and then click the Downloads tab. After you download the installer, run the installer if it does not automatically begin installing on your computer. After the installation is complete, start proctor caching (if it is not already started by the installer), and open the proctor caching interface. For TestNav 8, unlike for previous versions of TestNav, the proctor caching interface is web-based and provides the same view for both Windows and Mac. There are two tabs within the proctor caching interface, the Tests tab and the Clients tab: Select the Tests tab for information about test content and caching status Select the Clients tab to monitor client connectivity

2 Tests Tab Below is a view of the Tests tab during active proctor caching. Here, you can see the test name, the form name, and the status of caching for each form. You can also see a count of the number of entries cached, and the date and time the content was cached. Within the Tests tab, functionality is available to Refresh, Reload, or Purge selected test content. When you click Refresh, Reload, or Purge, a password will be required. Enter the following proctor password in the popup window: t35t1n6. The following notifications can appear in the Status column of the Tests tab: OK Content is cached Not Loaded Content is not cached Waiting Loading the content Loading Loading the content Failed to load content There was a failure to load content MD5 Check Invalid MD5 comparison failed MD5 Mismatch MD5 comparison was successful but files did not match In general, any status that appears in red is a critical problem. Clicking on a test name will display individual items in a test. However, no specific test content, such as questions or answer choices, can be accessed through this screen.

3 Below is an example of the screen that appears when you click on a test name. On this screen, you can see a URL that corresponds to the content that has been cached, the status of caching for that content, and the size of the content. Clients Tab Within the Clients tab, you can view a list of clients that have connected to TestNav, by IP address. The following notifications appear in the Status column of the Clients tab: Ok Client is active. Idle 5 to 30 minutes since client was active. Long Idle 30 minutes to 12 hours since client was active. Clients are removed after 12 hours or inactivity. If they log back in at a later time, they reappear. Use SystemCheck to Test Capacity From a client computer, access SystemCheck in order to test capacity. SystemCheck is available at

4 Below is a view of the SystemCheck interface: From this screen, click Add Caching Computer as indicated above. The following screen will appear. Add a name for the caching computer, the IP address, and port (4480). Click Save. Edit Caching Computer After you have added a caching computer, you can edit the information for that computer by clicking on the name of the computer (see link listed under Server/Computer below).

5 Test Capacity Click Start to test network capacity. On screen information will show whether or not the connection is successful. Note that in the Testing Capacity Est. column, SystemCheck provides an estimated number of students that can test concurrently, based on the results of the bandwidth test.

6 Create a Proctor Caching Setup In order to configure proctor caching for your organization, log in to PearsonAccess. Under the Test Setup tab, click Configure TestNav. On the screen that appears, click New Configuration. Provide a configuration name.

7 Click Add Organization. A list of available organizations will appear. The exact contents of this list will depend on your role in PearsonAccess. Select the appropriate organization(s) and click Add. You can add more than one organization. Click Continue. On the Configuration Details screen that appears, you can specify backup locations for student response files (SRFs) and adjust the information for the proctor caching computer. Here, enter the location for encrypted backup files to be saved. This location should be a Pearson folder within the machine s Home directory. Please note that ipads and Chromebooks do not save SRFs to this backup file location. Instead, SRFs for these devices are saved onto the individual devices themselves.

8 Enter the information that you want to apply, and click Continue. On the screen that appears, you can view information about the available proctor caching computers, and about which computer has been designated as the default proctor caching computer. To add an additional proctor caching computer, click New TestNav Settings and complete the steps to set up the additional computer(s).

9 To change which computer is the default proctor caching computer for all test sessions created in your organization, click Make Default under the computer that you would like to designate as the default proctor caching computer. Please note that in the event of a catastrophic failure of your default proctor caching machine, you can use this screen to select Make Default under another available proctor caching machine. This will move all proctor caching activities immediately to the newly designated machine. Please note that if you change the default proctor caching computer after you have already directed specific test sessions to the previous default computer, the following screen will appear. Select the appropriate option and click Continue. To delete a non-default proctor caching computer, click Delete under the computer that you would like to delete. (To delete a default proctor caching computer, first designate another default computer, and then click Delete. )

10 If you choose to delete a proctor caching computer to which specific test sessions have already been directed, the following screen will appear. Select the appropriate option and click Continue. Proctor caching setup is complete. Test sessions created through PreID prior to proctor caching setup will automatically be assigned to cache on the default proctor caching machine. Changes can be made manually to assign these sessions to cache to an alternate proctor caching machine, as needed. Beginning on 11/17, the proctor caching button will be available within PearsonAccess in order to begin actual caching of sessions.
