Slide 8 Slide 9 Slide 10 Slide 11 Slide 12 Test Monitor Responsibilities As a Test Monitor, you will be responsible for the following: Reading, understanding, and signing the Non-Disclosure Agreement Reviewing the applicable Assessment Manuals and Test Monitor and Student Directions Knowing scheduled dates and times for test administration Maintaining test security Confirming the identities of students being tested Verifying that the correct test and test form are provided to students Creating and starting new test sessions Providing students with login information Monitoring test sessions Resuming students in Exited status Contacting technology staff if needed during test administration Understanding test security and knowing what behaviors and activities should be documented and reported to your District or School Assessment Coordinator Knowing how to contact your District or School Assessment Coordinator during testing if needed Systems Used for Online Testing The following systems will be used for online test administration: You will use PearsonAccess to manage online test sessions. Students will use TestNav to take their online tests. Districts will also use TestNav to enter student responses from paper accommodated tests into an online data entry form. Preparing for Online Testing Before administering an online test, work with your District or School Assessment Coordinator to make sure the following have been addressed: You have a user ID and password for PearsonAccess. You have reviewed the applicable Assessment Manuals and Test Monitor and Student Directions. You have a list of the students in the test session and the login information they will need including their first and last name as they appear in MARSS and their MARSS/SSID number. Computers meet system requirements. Verify test sessions have been proctor cached. Contact your Assessment or Technology Coordinator if you are unsure about any of these. PearsonAccess To begin, go to PearsonAccess at pearsonaccess.com/mn. As a Test Monitor, you will have access to both the PearsonAccess site and the Training Center. Using the Training Center If you are setting up practice test sessions for training purposes, you must use the Training Center. To access the Training Center, select the Teacher & Test Monitor tab and then select Sign In to Training Center. The Training Center mirrors the test session management functionality in PearsonAccess and anything done in the Training Center will not affect actual test administrations in the PearsonAccess site. Signing into the Training Center requires a different user ID and password.

Slide 13 Slide 14 Slide 15 Slide 16 Signing into PearsonAccess To create, start, and monitor an online test session in PearsonAccess, select SIGN IN. You can select SIGN IN from any of the main tabs in PearsonAccess. To sign into PearsonAccess, enter your User ID and Password. Then select SIGN IN. Navigating PearsonAccess Once you have signed in, you will see the PearsonAccess Home tab. The same navigational links and tabs appear at the top of every screen in PearsonAccess to allow for easy navigation. The top right-hand side of the screen lists the current organization you are working with. If you have access to different schools, select the change organization link and then select the school you want to set up the test session for. Beginning Online Test Administration The Home tab lists the different tasks associated with each tab in PearsonAccess. The tasks we ll be focusing on in this course are on the Test Management tab. The first step in online test administration is to create a new test session. To begin, from the Home tab, select Online Test Sessions under Test Management. Verifying or Changing Test Administrations You will need to verify the test administration indicated in PearsonAccess before you create the new test session. The default test administration is indicated on the Online Test Sessions screen. To change the test administration, select Change. Then select the radio button next to the test administration you want to create a test session for and select Save. If you want to change the default test administration, select Save and Make Default.

Slide 17 Creating a New Test Session To create a new test session, select New Session. Then, on the New Test Sessions screen, enter the required information as indicated by the red arrows. For Session Name enter the name of the test session. The session name can be created with alpha and/or numeric characters. For example, the session name could be Nina s Class or 301. For School enter your school name. Once you enter three characters, a drop-down menu of schools will appear for you to select your school. For Test to be Administered select the test for the test session from the drop-down menu. For example, Grade 3 Mathematics MCA. Default Form Group Type. Select the form of the test for the test session from the drop-down menu. There are three types of forms to choose from, Main, Accommodated, and Data Entry. The Main form group type is a regular test form and the form most students will be assigned to. Accommodated: The Accommodated form group type is only available for math and science tests. This is the form students will be assigned to if they require accommodated text-tospeech. For Science MCA and Mathematics GRAD retests, this is also the form students will be assigned to if the student is using a script in conjunction with the online test. Data Entry: The Data Entry form group type is only used by staff to enter student responses from accommodated paper test materials. Scheduled Start Date. Enter the scheduled start date for your test session. Select the Calendar icon and then select the date. This date is for planning purposes only. The test session will start when you select Start. Entering a Scheduled Start Time or Location or Room are optional fields that can be used for planning purposes. Slide 18 Slide 19 Slide 20 Once all of the required information for the new test session has been entered, select Save. Then select Go to session to return to the Session Details screen. Locating the Test Code for Student Login Information Once the test session has been created, a test code will be automatically generated for the new test session. The test code is located at the bottom-left of the Test Session Details box. This test code will need to be provided to the students as part of the student login information. Proctor Caching a Test Session After the test session is created, it can be proctor cached. Proctor caching loads the online test content on a local server to reduce load times for graphics and other media during testing. You will need to confirm with your Assessment Coordinator or Technology Coordinator that the test session has been proctor cached. Starting a Test Session Before students can begin testing, Test Monitors must start the test session that they created. The test session can be started at any time and will not automatically stop, time out, or expire. Districts can choose to start test sessions in advance or right before students log in. To start a test session, select Start with the green arrow. The next screen will ask you to confirm that you want to start the test session. Select Yes-Start Session. After you select Yes- Start Session, the next screen will confirm that the session has been started. From this screen, select Return to Session detail to return to the Session Details screen. Once the test session has been started, Start will change to Stop with a red square.

Slide 21 Slide 22 Slide 23 Slide 24 Slide 25 Slide 26 Slide 27 Slide 28 Students Logging into a Test Now let s look at what students will see when logging into TestNav. Students need to log in using their first and last name as they appear in MARSS, their MARSS/SSID number, and the test code for the test session. Then select LOG IN. Once the students log into the test, the TestNav login screen will turn gray and look like the test is loading until they have been approved to test. All students must be approved to test by the Test Monitor before the students can start their test. Approving Students to Test Once the new test session has been started and students have logged in, you will need to approve the students to test. Select the Students Requesting Session Admission radio button to view the students who are waiting for approval to test. Approving Students to Test (Continued) Once you have verified that the students are requesting to log into the correct test and form group type, you will approve the students to start testing. To approve a student: Select the checkbox next to the student s name. To select all students, select the checkbox in the blue bar at the far left. Select Approve Request. Approving Students to Test (Continued) Once the student has been approved, their name will no longer appear on the list of students waiting for approval. Approving Students to Test (Continued) You will receive a message for any student with an invalid request. Examples of an invalid request would be if the student has already started the test in different test session, if the student is not eligible for that test, or if the student s MARSS/SSID is not correct. Approving Students to Test (Continued) After students have been approved, you will select the Students in the Session radio button to go back to the view where you can monitor the status of students while they are testing. Students Beginning a Test After the students have been approved to test, they will see the first item of the test. This screen is an example of what the students will see once they begin the test. If you would like to learn more about how students navigate through an online test and the online tools available to students, you can review the student tutorial for the applicable test. Remember: test items are secure. Only students can view test items. Monitoring the Status of Students Once your students have been approved to test, using the Students in the Session view, you can see a list of students currently testing in the test session. In the Status column, you can monitor the status of students while they are testing. Select the Refresh icon next to the Status column to update student statuses during the test session. Here are the statuses that you may see: Active: The student has logged in and started the test. Exited: The student has exited the test but has not submitted their answers. Submitted: The student has finished testing and submitted their answers. Completed: The student s answers have been submitted and scored. Resumed/Resumed-Upload: The student has been authorized to resume the test.

Slide 29 Before Students Exit a Test Students testing over multiple days can exit the test at the end of the testing session, but must first complete the section they are working on. After reviewing their answers, students should go to the next section. For Mathematics MCA, they will select Next to go to the next section. For Reading and Science MCA, they will select Next Section. Then they will select Close to go to the next section. Slide 30 Note: All Reading and Mathematics GRAD retests must be completed within one day. Students Exiting a Test When students are ready to exit in the next section, they will select Exit in the top right corner of the screen. For Mathematics MCA, they will exit on the first item of the section. For Reading and Science MCA, they will exit on the first title page of the section. On the following screen students will select one of two options: I want to return to the test. Selected if the student wants to go back to the test or wants to review their answers again. The student will select I want to return to the test and then select Return to Test. I want to exit the test for now and finish later. Selected if the student is testing over multiple days. The student will select I want to exit the test for now and finish later. Then select Finish Later and then select Close TestNav. Slide 31 Slide 32 Note: The third option of Final Submit will be greyed out until the student has finished the entire test. This applies to all tests except for Reading and Mathematics GRAD retests. Students Ending and Submitting a Test When students have reached the end of the test and are ready to submit the test for scoring, they will be prompted to review their answers on the Review screen. Once the students have reviewed their answers, they will select Submit and Exit Test and then select Close. On the following screen students will select I am finished with this test and I want to submit my answers. Then they will select Final Submit and then select Close TestNav. Students Ending and Submitting a Mathematics MCA Test When students have reached the end of the Mathematics MCA test and are ready to submit the test for scoring, they will be prompted to review their answers by selecting Previous on the Review screen. Once the students have reviewed their answers, they will select Next. Selecting Next will automatically submit the test for scoring. Then the students will select Close TestNav.

Slide 33 Slide 34 Slide 35 Resuming an Online Test If a student exits TestNav (either unintentionally or because they are testing over multiple days), the Test Monitor will need to resume the student s test on the Session Details screen in PearsonAccess before the student can log back into TestNav. To resume a student s test: Select the checkbox next to the student s name. If you are testing over multiple days and want to resume all students, select the checkbox in the blue bar at the far left. Select Resume Test. Resuming an Online Test (Continued) After you resume the student s test, the student s status will change to Resumed or Resumed- Upload. Note: You can only resume tests that are in an Exited status. When testing over multiple days, students will use the same login information each day. When the students resume the test, they will return to the item last viewed before exiting. Entering Student Responses from Paper Accommodated Test Materials: Creating a New Test Session As a Test Monitor, you may need to enter student responses from paper accommodated test materials for online tests into an online data entry form in TestNav. To enter those student responses, you will need to create and start a new test session. When creating the new test session, enter all of the required test session details. For the Default Form Group Type, you must select Data Entry from the drop-down menu. Once all of the test session details are entered, select Save. Start the test session by selecting Start. Slide 36 Slide 37 Slide 38 Entering Student Responses from Paper Accommodated Test Materials: Adding Students into a Test Session Once the test session is started, select Add Students. Entering Student Responses from Paper Accommodated Test Materials: Adding Students into a Test Session (Continued) Then select the Students radio button to view the students who need their responses entered into an online data entry form. Select the checkbox next to the student or students to be added to the test session for data entry. Then select Add to Session. Student Test Once your student is added to the session, you are ready to log into TestNav using the login information for the student whose responses you are entering. Your District Assessment Coordinator may provide you with the student login information if the test session was created for you. If you create the test session, select Authorizations on the Sessions Details screen once the student or students have been added. From the drop-down list, select Student Authorizations. You will then have four options for printing your student authorization tickets: The Detail View displays a single student authorization ticket on a one-page PDF. The 6-per-sheet View displays six student authorization tickets on a one-page PDF. The Grid View displays the session information at the top of the PDF and the student authorization ticket information in a gridded format. The List View displays the session information at the top of the PDF and the student authorization ticket information in a list format. Select the view you prefer then print the student authorization ticket or tickets.

Slide 39 Go to TestNav at TestNav.com/MN. To log into TestNav, enter the student's MARSS/SSID number, and the test code for the data entry test session. Slide 40 Slide 41 Slide 42 After logging into TestNav, a screen will appear that will require you to enter your name and before you are able to begin entering student responses. This provides a record of who entered the data on behalf of the student. Once you enter your name and address, a pop-up window will ask if you wish to close Section 1. If your name and address have been correctly entered, select Close to start entering the student s responses. The data entry form is similar to what the student sees in their online test in terms of screen layout and navigation, but there is no toolbar or accessibility panel. You will navigate through the test, entering the student s responses from the paper accommodated test material. If there are test items that the student did not answer, you will leave those test items blank in the data entry form. You can use the Review screen to verify answered and unanswered items. You may also go back to review the responses that you have entered for the student before submitting the test. When you have finished reviewing the responses that you have entered, select Submit and Exit Test on the Review screen. Select I am finished with this test and I want to submit my answers. Select Final Submit. Then select Close TestNav. Slide 43 Slide 44 If you will not finish entering all of the student s responses in one session, you can exit at any time by selecting Exit in the top right corner of the screen. Then select I want to exit the test for now and finish later. Select Finish Later and then select Close TestNav. When ready to resume entering the student s responses, sign in to PearsonAccess and resume the test. Then log into TestNav using the same student login information used previously. Congratulations! Congratulations! You have completed the Online Test Monitor Certification Course. You should now be familiar with the following: Creating a Test Session, Starting a Test Session, Approving Students, Monitoring Student Testing, Entering Student Responses From Paper Accommodated Test Materials. You can use the Training Center to practice creating and starting test sessions prior to your first online test administration.
