2 1 Introduction This section configures the MicroStrategy Intelligence Server, including the connection between the Intelligence Server and the MicroStrategy metadata database, and the connections between the Intelligence Server and the Knoa Operational and Knoa Reporting databases. 1.1 Checklist It is assumed that the System Requirements have been met, the basic MicroStrategy components have been installed (as outlined in the System Requirements section) and the Knoa Database Configuration steps have been completed. Here is a checklist of items to complete before the database configurations: Install Java 5 Install Apache Tomcat (see page 249 in the MicroStrategy Install Guide) for configuration details Install MicroStrategy, activate and start servers Knoa Database Configuration steps completed 2 Connection to Metadata This section configures the connection between the MicroStrategy Intelligence Server and the MicroStrategy metadata database 1. Open the MicroStrategy Configuration Wizard (Start > All Programs > MicroStrategy > Configuration Wizard) 2. Select "MicroStrategy Intelligence Server" and click Next Page 2

3 3. Select the Knoa Meta DSN from the drop down and click Next Page 3

4 4. Since this is the first time connecting to the MicroStrategy Intelligence Server, leave the user name as "Administrator" and the password blank. A password should be set later. Click Next. Page 4

5 5. Give the Intelligence Server a name. A recommended name is the server on which is it installed. Click Next. Page 5

6 6. It is recommended to keep the default port 7. Click Next to continue 8. Click Finish to continue and Close when done to return to the Configuration Wizard welcome page 9. Select "Create a Project Source" and click Next Page 6

7 10. Enter "Knoa" in the "Project Source Name" field, select "MicroStrategy Intelligence Server (3 Tier), and click Next Page 7

8 11. Enter the name and port of the Intelligence Server and click Next Page 8

9 12. Select an authentication method and click Next Page 9

10 13. Review the summary, click Finish, then click Close 14. The Intelligence Server has been configured - click Exit to close the wizard 3 Connection to Knoa Databases This section configures the connection between the MicroStrategy Intelligence Server and the Knoa Operational and Reporting databases. 1. Open MicroStrategy Desktop and log into the "Knoa" project source Page 10

11 2. Open Administration > Configuration Managers > Database Instances; two Knoa database instances should appear for the project Page 11

12 Double-click the Knoa Operational database instance to open the Database Instances dialog 3. On the "Database Instances" dialog, two Knoa database connections should appear for the project Select the database type of the database in the "Database connection type" dropdown Select the appropriate Database Connection from the "Database connection (default)" list and click "Modify" Database Instance Database Connection Operational (single-operational database configuration) Operational (multiple-operational database configuration) Reporting (single- or multiple- Operational database configuration) Operational Reporting Reporting Page 12

13 4. On the "Database Connections" dialog, select the ODBC data source for the database created with the MicroStrategy Connectivity Wizard that corresponds to the selected Database Connection Page 13

15 5. Two database logins should appear for the project, but must be configured with the correct credentials: Click "Modify..." Enter the username and password of the database user and click "OK" 6. Click "OK" three times to return to the main MicroStrategy Desktop screen 7. Repeat for the Knoa Reporting database instance Page 15
