We would like to introduce you to ELEVATOR, the Fast Track Graduate Training scheme from Hilton International. Elevator is a powerful programme. As you ll see from the information contained in this leaflet, it s different from other management training schemes in a number of important ways. But the thought behind it is very clear. Quite simply, to prepare the best graduates for the top - in the world s foremost international hotel business. To achieve this, the ELEVATOR programme brings together a valuable, practical and unique mix of business, hotel and people management skills. It s a flexible programme that will be fine tuned to your needs and goals, while giving you the breadth of experience and training to equip you for the responsibilities of General Management. ELEVATOR is designed to get your career moving. So we ll be dividing your time between two locations, with around nine months spent in each. It doesn t just broaden your experience. It gives your training a truly international dimension. And you will be better equipped than ever to take advantage of significant career opportunities after only eighteen months. The rest is up to you. But we ll back you all the way to the top.

3 GROUND FLOOR TOP COMPANY Orientation, including front-line operational experience As soon as you join you begin an orientation process that prepares the way for the rest of the programme. This will include between four and six weeks front-line operational experience. To keep up the momentum you have already achieved, and help you avoid the frustration of covering old ground, we ll be flexible. That means we ll take into account your work experience to date, and build on it, rather than make you repeat things unnecessarily. ON THE MOVE A business management focus ELEVATOR will broaden your knowledge, not push you into a niche. It s specifically designed to ensure you have an understanding of the total operation, and will be capable of running a fully integrated business. So, by the time you complete the programme, you will have a good grasp of the major issues essential to becoming a General Manager. By working in a variety of roles in the hotels, you will cover the important business management issues facing any big company, like Finance, Sales, Marketing, Information Systems, Human Resources and Purchasing, together with the essential hotel specific disciplines involved in Accommodation Management, Food & Beverage and Conference & Banqueting. Which means that, with ELEVATOR, our managers get the best of both worlds.

4 GAINING MOMENTUM Management skills development It s essential to your progress that we help you develop the core skills and management qualities required for your future success. We do this according to your own individual needs, giving you the backing and encouragement to excel in the areas where you have already shown a particular flair or aptitude. An important feature of this part of the programme is the challenging off-the-job course work. It includes training to develop your financial and technology awareness, personal effectiveness and management and leadership skills. TAKING CONTROL Leading your own business driven projects No training programme that prepares you for senior management would be complete without hands on project work. ELEVATOR puts you in charge of real and relevant business assignments. During the eighteen month period of your training you will undertake two major projects that will develop both your analytical skills and business acumen. These will address two key business issues - identifying revenue generating opportunities, and increasing productivity. On completion you will be required to present your work, for in-depth critical analysis and discussion, to senior members of the management team. Rise to the challenge and it s an opportunity not only to shine but, if you ve made a convincing case, to take part in implementing your ideas.

An important feature of this part of the programme is the challenging off-the-job course work.

5 A NEW LEVEL OF ACHIEVEMENT A review of your performance and development Your progress during the ELEVATOR programme is constantly assessed, so you always know how you are developing. Your performance throughout your training will be fed back to you by the appropriate department head. But in addition, you can expect regular reviews with your General Manager. All this helps you, and us, build up a clear picture of your achievement and your potential. However, the Performance and Career Development Review at the end of the ELEVATOR programme, conducted by senior management, has a special significance for your future. HEADING FOR THE HEIGHTS A managed move up, with more headroom An excellent review at this stage guarantees a significant elevation in your career. In other words, an appointment to your first management role. We will take into account the demands of our fast growing and highly successful international business, together with your particular strengths and personal preferences. One thing is certain the structure of our training programme will prepare you for senior management, quickly and effectively, in the very special and unique Hilton International environment. But this is only the first stage of your journey. After the programme, we will continue to invest in your development and monitor your career progression.
