1 Dariusz Tłoczyński 1 University of Gdansk Air charter in Poland Introduction Analysis air transport is a part of the global transportation system. It s operating is determined by the interaction of many specific features but above all it must be pointed to strong fluctuations in time the demand for air transport. They are different time intervals; quarterly, monthly, weekly and daily. The peak of air transportation is in the summer months. The main objective of this presentation is role of the air charter traffic in air transport system. The handling air charter is determinate by demand, economics, weather, and special sale promotion and other. Polish air transport Polish air transport is integration of air transport system. Around 80 % share in the Polish are regular services. In polish air transport functioning scheduled airlines such as Polish Airlines LOT, Lufthansa, British Airways and low-cost carriers, such as Ryanair, easyjet, Wizz. Regular air carries can operating in air charter. Air charter carriers realising agreements with travel agency, spedition company and other enterprises. The irregular has occasional air transport and hasn t typical element of regular: timetable and season. The charter distributed subs: tourist transport, commissioned for companies in the small traffic type Air Taxi. In Poland, air carriers operate on domestic routes and international travel. They differ in size, value and capital structure, ownership and the number of aircraft. International airlines operate in Poland based on certificates by the Polish Civil Aviation Authority received in the home country and based on bilateral agreements or open sky. Low-cost carriers together hold 47.40% of the, Europe's largest low-cost carrier Ryanair %, and Hungarian airlines (Wizz) has 19.17% share. These figures represent the dominance of low-cost carriers in the Polish air transport, as well as the flexibility to adapt its range of transport services to the changing conditions. On the Polish is shown a slow increase in concentration of traffic around the major airlines. Since 2005, the share of the four largest carriers is stable. The total share of Polish Airlines LOT, Wizz, Ryanair, Lufthansa fell from 80.78% in 2011 to 78.29% in It was caused entrance to the OLT Express and a large share of EuroLOT. 3360

3 Air traffic in polish airports Airports can classified according to different criteria, usually classified according to passenger service. Volume of passenger service by individual airports are shown in table 2. Tab. 2. Warsaw Airport due to perform airport hub for Polish Airlines LOT and other administrative functions of the business has exceeded 9.5 million passengers. It has still the largest share of 39%, which steadily decreases. In contrast, the share of airports in the total number of passengers handled (Cracow from 9.1% in 2004, 13.8% in 2011 to 13.95% in 2012), Gdansk from 5.25% (2004), 11.28% (2011) to 11.71% in All airports have achieved growth in passenger numbers. Highest growth was reported in Zielona Gora (77%) and Szczecin (34.4%), the lowest in Katowice (0.7%). Undoubtedly factors with the increase in air traffic, in addition to the above was also greater involvement of airlines. Carriers making decisions concerning their operation guided by economic interests, the possibilities and the development of the region. Most carriers in 2012 opereting in Warsaw, but their number decreased by 8 compared in Second airport in terms of the number of carriers is Cracow 13 air carriers. Information for airports are presented in table 4 Tab. 4. Decrease of air traffic was in airports Katowice and Cracow. In 2012, the number of direct connections offered from polish airports increased by 2% compared to the previous year. The largest increase recorded relative airport in Gdansk (22 direct connections). Due to the lack of stability in the euro zone air carriers don t open new routes. Overall in 2012, the polish airports offer direct connections to 299 destinations regularly in Poland and abroad, it s 7 more than in Characteristic Polish air charter In addition to the rapidly growing traffic regularly, also charter flights to the polish air transport grew rapidly. In 2012 polish airports served more than 3 million passengers, there was a slight decrease compared to 2011 by approximately 2%. It is a very diverse characterized by volatility operators, change owners. Recently, the of air carriers specializing in charter services has changed, there is a lot of polish companies offering supply. One of the most significant in 2012 include: polish air carriers: Enter Air Travel Service AS, Travel Service Poland, Bingo Airways, Small Planet Airlines, Polish Airlines LOT + EuroLOT, SprintAir, Polish Air Force, EuroLOT, OLT Express Poland, OLT Express Regional, Yes Airways, SprintAir Cargo, Air Poland, Sky Taxi, Excel, Bartolini Air, Blu Jet, Jet Air. 3363

7 for over 13% share (Figure 2), an increase of 57 th. passenger growth of 16%. Also in other destinations of Egypt (Sharm-el-Sheikh) there was an increase in passenger numbers by 36%. This direction is achieved third place ranking serving 268 th. passengers (8% share). The second destination having the largest share is Antalya - 12% share. In 2012, for the destinations served almost 400 th. passengers, it was about 17% less than in the previous year. These figures are derived from the analysis of charter traffic from polish airports in relation to the country of destination. The number of passengers at polish airports in charter traffic in the years are presented in table 7. Tab. 7. In 2012, compared to 2011 increased by 24% (an increase of 157 th. passengers). In second place was the Turkey despite the drop in traffic compared to 2011 by 14%. For Turkey, the polish airports left 586 thousand. passengers, an 18% share. The third in terms of number of passengers were temporarily admitted to Greece - nearly 0.5 million passengers, this represents a 15% share and a decrease compared to Highest dynamic destinations of Thailand reached 187%, 108% Ukraine and Croatia 106%. The main charter country in 2012 The charter is characterized by significant seasonality. Figure 4 shows the volume of air charter traffic of polish airports by month in the period

Seasonality of tourist trips from Polish airports ( ) Based on the analysis of the graph for the years can be concluded that the largest charter traffic is in the airports during summer (July-September), the curve increases from April to June. For such a diverse air transport both tour-operators and charter carriers must adapt the offer transport holiday. In 2012, most passengers were handled in Warsaw 1.44 million, an increase compared to the previous year by 9.3%. From regional airports greatest number of passengers cleared 779 th passengers in Katowice, an increase of 15.8% compared to 2010 and 364 thousand in Poznan. an increase of 3.4% compared to the year 2010, the largest share in the use of charter flights have airport in Warsaw %, Katowice and Poznan 23.77% to 11%. 10 Fig. 5. Polish airport in air charter traffic in 2012 In 2012, the air charter flights accounted for the airport in Katowice, almost one third operation of all passenger traffic (30%). In Poznan analyzed segment is 24%, while in Warsaw 15.4%. For all the airports share of charters in the total number of passengers handled is 15.1%. Summary Analyzing the air transport in the area of charter flights present to the following conclusions : air charter adapts to changing socio-economic conditions in the world, it is particularly sensitive to any changes appearing in the air, air carriers is dominated by polish airlines, activity of airlines operating charter is not stable - the majority of the air carriers operating on the a few year, the largest air charter traffics in the airports during summer (July -September), with the increase in passenger service is from April to June, the main dominant airports to operate charter traffic are: Katowice approximately 30% of air traffic, Poznan - 24%, Warsaw 14%. For all the airports involved in the use of charter traffic is about 13 %, the main tourist destination from several years remain Hurghada, Antalya, Sharm el -Sheikh, Enfidha, Heraklion and Fuerteventura, development of air services should expect growth of tourist services by airports. 3368

11 Abstract In study analyzed air traffic in Poland operating by air carriers and in polish airports. Next present the main air charter carriers, which oparating in Poland. Showed air charter traffic in polish airports and the last part presented the main destination (airports and country)where passengers flight from polish airports. Polski rynek lotniczych przewozów czarterowych Streszczenie W artykule dokonano analizy polskiego rynku usług transportu lotniczego. Wskazano na najważniejszych przewoźników w obsłudze tego rynku, a także przedstawiono obsługę pasażerów w polskich portach lotniczych. Następnie omówiono najważniejszych przewoźników operujących na polskim rynku lotniczych przewozów czarterowych, wskazano rolę portów lotniczych w obsłudze tego segmentu rynku.
