1 DeSales University DeSales University is a private, coeducational, mid-size, Catholic university located on a beautiful 400- acre campus in Center Valley, Pa., just minutes south of the metropolitan Allentown/Bethlehem area, and north of charming Bucks County. It is also within an easy drive of Philadelphia, New York and the Jersey shore. The spectrum of majors are offered across nine academic departments, with particular strength in the Performing Arts, Natural and Health Sciences, Business and Education. The business curriculum prepares students for successful careers in areas that range from accounting to sports management. DeSales also offers Pennsylvania Department of Education certification in elementary education, secondary education and special education. The school s Performing and Fine Arts Department is nationally renowned, and offers degrees in theatre, dance and TV/film. Students have access to superb teachers, world-class performance facilities, and firstrate artistic productions, along with many hands-on opportunities such as a professional summer theatre internship with the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival. All of the student acting and technical theatre activities are performed by undergraduates. Coursework emphasizes communication and presentation skills, production techniques and methods, and the development of sound judgment and values to help improve the quality of our media culture. The nationally recognized Physician Assistant program is accredited by the PA Department of Higher Education and the Commission on the Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs. Our students regularly score among the highest in the nation in mandatory standardized national testing and for the fifth time in six years DeSales University s Physician Assistant Program won the National Medical Challenge Bowl Championship, which is the Student Academy of Physician Assistants equivalent to the NCAA Final Four. The University supports 16 intercollegiate varsity sports and 30 intramural sports programs. Coval is responsible for the planning, organization, management and evaluation of DeSales 16-sport men's and women's NCAA Division III intercollegiate athletic program. Coval has been with the University for the last 13 years as the head men's basketball coach. Since joining the DSU staff, Coval has also served as the school's coordinator of athletic recruiting, head men's golf coach, and as the assistant athletic director. Since taking over the men's basketball program at DeSales, Coval has compiled a (.621) record and has led the team to the post-season 11 of the last 12 years including the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament berth in Prior to arriving in Center Valley, Coval was an assistant coach at Lafayette College for five years. He has also been an assistant at Penn State University and the College of William & Mary. A standout player at Whitehall High School, Coval continued his playing career at William & Mary, where he was named team captain and MVP his senior year. He graduated from William & Mary in 1986 with a degree in Business Management. A member of the Lehigh Valley Basketball Hall of Fame, Coval is the director of the DeSales University basketball camp and helps with many other camps throughout the Eastern Pennsylvania and Western New Jersey areas. Coval resides in Allentown, PA, with his wife Kaye and their two daughters, Keeley and Mia and son, Nicholas. Gordon Hornig Women's Cross-Country and Track & Field Coach Gordon Hornig enters his 10th year as both the head women's crosscountry and women's track and field coach. Over the last four seasons, Hornig has led the cross-country program to a top four finish at the MAC Championships each time and to its bestever finish, second place, in The Bulldogs have also finished among the top 10 in the Mid-East Region twice in the last four years including a seventh place finish in 2003 and an eighth place finish in Additionally, Hornig helped the most celebrated runner in DSU history, Gina Lucrezi, graduate having earned All-American honors 10 times in her career, become the firstever DeSales University National Champion when she won the 1,500-meter race at the 2004 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships, be named DSU's Female Athlete of the Year all four years and earn Academic All-American honors as a senior. Hornig was an assistant men s cross country and track & field coach in and from under head coach Al Weiner. Hornig graduated from DeSales in 1992 with a degree in criminal justice and received his master s degree in social work from Marywood in He also coached boy's high school cross-country and track at Archbishop Wood HS from and Wood won Philadelphia Catholic League boy's cross country championships in 1988 & 89 and was nationally ranked in As a runner at DSU, Hornig was team captain and Most Valuable Runner in 1991 as well as earning Academic All-League honors. Hornig, who works full-time as a Psychotherapist and also as an adjunct professor at DeSales in the criminal justice department, resides in Center Valley, PA with his wife Robie and daughter Hannah. 2 - athletics.desales.edu DSU Women's Cross-Country/Track & Field

2 Coaching Staff CARL BRUNO Assistant Coach Bruno returns for his seventh season as an assistant track & field coach. Prior to joining DSU, Bruno was an assistant track coach at Saucon Valley HS. He is primarily responsible for working with both the sprinters and hurdlers at DeSales. Bruno has had a positive impact on the track and field program. Since he has arrived every indoor and outdoor record in the sprints and hurdle events has been broken. MARIUSZ WITTBRODT Assistant Coach Wittbrodt begins his 12th season as an assistant track & field coach with a concentration in throwing events. He has an extensive background in training field athletes that begins with him being a full-time track & field trainer in Poland from and was also a qualifier for the Polish National team in the discus throw. Wittbrodt has had seven different individuals win MAC Championships over the past four years and three of those athletes have provisionally qualified for the NCAA National Championships. BRIAN MacDONALD Assistant Coach MacDonald returns for his third season as an assistant track & field coach. He will continue to assist Coach Hornig by coaching the pole vault, throwers and athletes competing in mutli-events. MacDonald graduated from DeSales in 2004 with a bachelor of arts degree in communications. He had a very successful career at DSU finishing as the MAC champion in the decathlon twice (2001 and 2002) and is still the school-record holder with 5,705 points in the decathlon competition. He also still owns the school-record in the outdoor long jump ( ) and indoor pole vault ( ). Two years ago he lost 10-time All-American Gina Lucrezi and this year he will be without Tara Barlow. Despite the losses however, Hornig thinks his team has a great chance to compete for one of the top spots at the MAC Championships. Last year, the Bulldogs finished in fourth place at the MAC Championships and have been working hard to earn of the top three spots this year. Hornig will feature an extremely young roster with 10 of his 14 runners just freshmen and sophomores. Among the top returnees are senior Desi Symons (Verona, NJ/Verona) who took 16th at last year's MAC Championships and will be Hornig's most experienced runner. 4 - athletics.desales.edu DSU Women's Cross-Country/Track & Field

3 2006 Cross-Country Preview Also returning and expected to make an impact this year will be juniors Maggie Parlapiano (Honeybrook, PA/St. Pius X) and junior Laura Durso (Old Tappan, NJ/Northern Valley). Each showed glimpses of potential last season with Durso taking 31st at the Salisbury University Invitional and Parlapiano taking 9th place at the Baptist Bible College Inviational. The freshmen class might be the most talented class of Hornig's coaching career. Jeanine Walsh (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan), Alessandro LaMastro (Flanders, NJ/Pope John XXIII), Beth Malseed (Claymont, DE/Archmere Academy) and Amanda Sell (Oley, PA/Oley Valley) all enter Hornig's program with loads of talent and potential to make an immediate impact this season. The Bulldogs will open the season once again at the Sea Gull Opener at Salisbury University in early September. DSU will host three meets including their own Invitational, the CTC Conference Championships and the MAC Championships on October 28th Track & Field Preview Head coach Gordon Hornig and the DeSales University women's track & field team are very excited about the season and the propect of improving upon last year's eighth place finish in both the MAC Indoor and Outdoor Championships. Hornig welcomes in a very talented recruiting class consisting of 17 freshmen all of which he is counting on to provide scoring chances in their respective events at the MAC Championships. Among the top returnees are senior Eileen Lavelle (Tarrytown, NY/Sleepy Hollow) and junior Nikki Sansone (Chester Springs, PA/Bishop Shanahan). Lavelle and Sansone each had excellent seasons in the sprinting events last year with Lavelle taking third in the 55-meter dash at the MAC Indoor Championships and taking fourth in the 100-meter dash and eighth in the 200-meter dash at the MAC Outdoor Championships. Sansone was equally as impressive earning team points at the Indoor Championships with a sixth place finish in the 55-meter hurdles and at the Outdoor Championships with a fifth place in the 100-meter dash and a fourth place finish in the 400-meter hurdles. Other top returnees are junior Laura Durso (Old Tappan, NJ/Northern Valley), senior Desi Symons (Verona, NJ/Vernona), sophomore Bridgette McGinnis (Pennsbury, PA/Pennsbury), junior Maggie Parlapiano (Honeybrook, PA/St. Pius X) and senior Michelle Rehnert (Pottsville, PA/Nativity BVM). DSU begins its indoor season on December 3rd at the CTC Indoor Relay Championships and will compete at the MAC Indoor Championships on February 24th at Susquehanna University. The outdoor season is scheduled to begin on March 17th at the Washington & Lee Invitational. The Bulldogs will host the CTC Championships once again on April and the MAC Championships will be held at Elizabethtown College on May 3-5. time of 40: Top Performers Eileen Lavelle Senior - Tarrytown, NY/Sleepy Hollow DeSales: Lavelle enters her senior season after enjoying tremendous success as a junior. She took third at the MAC Track & Field Indoor Chanmpionships in the 55-meter dash and placed fourth and eighth at the MAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the 100 and 200-meter dashes. She enters her final season as the indoor track school-record holder in the 55-meters (7.59 seconds) and 200-meters (27.88 seconds) and as the outdoor track schoolrecord holder in the 100-meters (12.83 seconds) and the 200-meters (26.86 seconds). Desi Symons Senior - Verona, NJ/Verona DeSales: Symons has enjoyed a very successful four-year career on both the cross-country and track & field team. As a junior Symons finished in 16th place at the MAC Cross-Country Championships and had a successful track season taking 6th at the CTC Indoor Championships in the 5,000-meters (20:00.47) and second at the CTC Outdoor Championships in the 10,000-meters (41:51.10). She holds the school-record in the outdoor 10,000-meters in a Nikki Sansone Junior - Chester Springs, PA/Bishop Shanahan DeSales: Sansone returns to the team after an excellent sophomore campaign. She took sixth place at the MAC Indoor Championships in the 55-meter hurdles (9.57 seconds) and placed fifth in the 100- meter hurdles (16.55 seconds) and fourth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:07.12) at the MAC Outdoor Championships. Both of her outdoor performances set new school-records at DSU. She enters the season working hard towards earning a trip to Nationals. Bridgette McGinnis Sophomore - Pennsbury, PA/Pennsbury DeSales: McGinnis rejoins the team after a solid freshman season as a Bulldog. 4 Top Performers Laura Durso Junior - Old Tappan, NJ/Northern Valley DeSales: Durso returns to the team as one of the team's top middistance runners. She was a member of the distance medley team who placed fifth at the MAC Indoor Championships last season and a member of the 4x400-meter relay team that took sixth at the MAC Outdoor Championships. In addition she finished fifth at the CTC Outdoor Championships in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Michelle Rehnert Senior - Pottsville, PA/Nativity BVM DeSales: Rehnert returns to the team after showing vast improvement as a thrower last season. She placed fourth in javelin at the CTC Outdoor Championships with a final toss of meters. After qualfiying for the MAC Championships last season for the first time, Rehnert will be looking for a top six finish in both the weight throw and hammer throw this season. Lauren Annucci Freshman - Aston, PA/Padua Academy DeSales: Annucci joins the program as a talented sprinter. She is expected to make a big impact in the 400-meters and will be used inthe 4x400-meter, 4x800-meter and distance medley relays. Annucci should also see time in the 800-meters. Taryn Collins Freshman - Hanover, PA/Delone Catholic DeSales: Collins joins the team as a versatile athlete expected to make an impact in the sprinting events, hurdle events and the pole vault. She has a chance to earn a spot among the top in the MAC in the 400-meters Top Performers Kaitlin Hahn Freshman - Lehighton, PA/Lehighton DeSales: Hahn joins the team as a promising high jumper. Coach Hornig thinks she has a great chance to compete for one of the top spots in the MAC this season in the high jump event. Her goals to start the season are to reach the 5-4 height. Alessandro LaMastro Freshman - Flanders, NJ/Pope John XXIII DeSales: LaMastro joins the team as a highly touted mid-distance runner. She is excpeted to be one of the top runners on the crosscountry team this season and during the track season will focus on the 800-meter and 1,500-meter events. Samantha Ward Freshman - Emmaus, PA/Emmaus DeSales: Ward also joins the program with high expectations in the pole vault. She has the ability to immediately compete for one of the top spots in the MAC and hopes to reach the 11-foot mark this season. Meghan Weber Freshman - Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks West DeSales: Weber joins the program as a talented field athlete in the throwing events.
