1 Board Election Candidate Statement Candidate for: Treasurer Stanley J. Kania, III Marywood University Graduate Admissions Counselor Scranton, PA (570) Stanley J. Kania, III Resume (PDF) The Leadership Cultivation & Elections Committee developed a set of questions for all candidates to answer, to lend some consistency across the candidate statements and to provide the voting membership with specific information about the priorities each candidate envisions pursuing if elected. 1. What are your top three priorities for the future of NAGAP? Collaboratively work with other NAGAP Board members on creating new professional development opportunities, such as developing a Certified Higher Education Professional (CHEP) Certificate training program for NAGAP members. Utilize my knowledge of finance to ensure accurate documentation, reporting, and filing of all NAGAP financial documents and tax materials. Help promote the organization and its purpose to other GEM professionals across the country so they may increase their knowledge and grow as a GEM professional 2. How might you contribute to leading the association in the direction of these priorities? I am someone who is very passionate about higher education. I always have been since I first starting working in the GEM field five years ago. I firmly believe that education allows one to discover and unlock the hidden potential in themselves. I also believe that a solid education helps oneself learn the knowledge and skills needed to be a leader in the global and diverse world we live in today. For the past five years, I have helped my students do just that. Seeing my students graduate every year at our Commencement ceremony is very rewarding because I know I helped transform someone s life. I will take the same dedication, passion, and work ethic that I apply in my daily life and bring it into my role at NAGAP. I am someone who thrives in a collaborative environment and would work tirelessly to ensure that NAGAP continues their diligent work in providing education and resources to GEM professionals worldwide. My business background and knowledge acquired from my MBA will aid me in fulfilling the roles and responsibilities as Treasurer. I will ensure accurate reporting, documentation, and filing of all NAGAP financial and tax documents. Furthermore, I will work with the Chapters Committee to assist and make sure they have access to resources needed for filing their chapter financial and tax documents. As you can tell, I am an advocate for education and would like to work with other NAGAP leaders on developing a Certified Higher Education Professional (CHEP) Certificate training program for NAGAP members. If given the opportunity, I would be both humbled and honored to serve NAGAP as the Treasurer and aid NAGAP in furthering their mission to promote excellence and collaboration through education, research, and professional development.
2 3. Please share a meaningful or memorable experience you've had with NAGAP - in a committee or on a project or in a networking moment. My most memorable NAGAP experience was presenting at the 2015 NAGAP Annual Conference in New Orleans, Louisiana this past year. My presentation was titled The Effectiveness of Alumni Engagement in the Recruitment Process: How Alumni Make Your School Shine. I wrote an article on this same topic that was published in the Fall 2014 edition of Perspectives, the NAGAP magazine. It was my first ever national presentation. I was excited, yet nervous at the same time. Before I knew it, all the seats in my presentation room were full and people began standing along the wall in the back. I had over 100 people in my presentation. The audience asked wonderful questions and we are all collaborating on ways in which the ideas I presented on could be implemented at their institution. I received wonderful feedback from the attendees and people were contacting me weeks afterwards to ask for advice and input on bringing alumni engagement into their recruitment strategy. I was honored to present in front of such a wonderful group of professionals and my experience sure was memorable! 4. Please describe your NAGAP-related experience/involvement. Member of PAGAP, the Pennsylvania Chapter of NAGAP (2011-Present) o Served as Vice-President for the past two years o Responsibilities include: assisting the President with general management of PAGAP, assist committees and chairs to support the vision and operation of the organization, aid in coordinating/marketing of PAGAP related events (i.e. meetings, conference, etc.).
