12 The Amazon Fund The BNDES manages the Amazon Fund, created by Brazil s federal government to raise funds to preserve and promote the sustainable development of the forest. The main aim is to provide financial support to projects through non-reimbursable investments to prevent, monitor and combat deforestation, as well as to foster the conservation and sustainable use of the forests within the Amazonian Biome. 26 Lessons Learned Considering that: Brazilian cultural institutions face difficulty in its financial sustainability BNDES fosters the sustainable development of this market BNDES wants to broaden the discussion and encourage the development of the successful model used abroad - Permanent Equity Funds, Endowment and Development of the Business Area - including the challenge to develop knowledge and management tools for their viability in Brazil.
