1 An Overview Are you looking to hire top talent? Attracting exceptional talent isn t always easy. RBC Royal Bank, together with Career Edge Organization, is ready to help. We would like to introduce you to the RBC Career Bridge Associate Host Program. This innovative program could be your first step towards finding new, high-potential, internationally qualified candidates that fit your employment needs. The best part is that the cost of hiring a candidate under this program is covered for the first three months entirely by RBC Royal Bank. RBC Career Bridge Associate Host Program An Overview Career Edge Organization, a national not-for-profit service provider, has provided thoughtful, results-driven leadership in connecting multi-sector businesses with diverse, qualified talent through innovative internship programs. These include the Career Edge paid internship program for internationally qualified professionals ready to launch their Canadian careers in non-regulated areas. Since 1996, Career Edge Organization has worked with over 1,000 reputable employers across Canada, including RBC Royal Bank, to provide almost 12,000 paid internships. Career Edge is a low-risk, cost-effective hiring solution for Canadian employers to access well-educated, internationally experienced and pre-screened professionals, who are newcomers to Canada. By participating in the Career Edge program, employers add skills and diversity to the workforce and assist highly qualified and motivated individuals/interns to gain meaningful Canadian work experience.
2 Career Edge interns are: Educated: Over 50% of Career Edge interns possess a master s degree or higher. Experienced: 77% of Career Edge interns have at least five years of relevant international work experience in their fields of expertise; 55% have at least 10 years of experience. Qualified: All Career Edge registrants have been prescreened for English language business communications skills, Canadian education credential equivalency, work experience relevancy and eligibility to work in Canada. Professionally diverse and highly skilled: Interns have a variety of specialized skills and areas of expertise including finance, IT, engineering, business operations, sales, marketing/communications and HR. Bilingual: Career Edge interns bring their international experience to the workplace, and while they have all been pre-screened for English business communication skills, most speak at least one additional language; bilingual English/French pre-screening services are also available. Benefits for employers hiring Career Edge interns include: Access to talent Flexible recruitment option Cost-effective Human resource support How to Participate If you re interested in taking advantage of the RBC Career Bridge Associate Host Program, review the program guidelines and FAQs provided to determine if the program is right for your business. The current hiring requirement should fit with the available Job Categories, and should generally be a mid-level role requiring three or more years of experience. 2. Demonstrate a commitment to diversity and inclusion, which may be reflected in initiatives. These might include community involvement, a corporate value statement, a commitment to inclusive practices on your website and hiring processes that encourage diversity. 3. 5 Frequently Asked Questions Q: What is an Associate Host? Any Ontario employer who wants to hire professional-level talent, who can provide or host a six (6) month meaningful internship or work experience for a qualified international professional, and who agrees to the Client Participation Guidelines for the RBC Career Bridge Associate Host Program included in this information package. Q: What are the Associate Host responsibilities? Provide a meaningful professional-level job description and set specific work-related deliverables and expectations for the intern during the internship period; Post an internship opportunity on the Career Edge website with assistance from the Career Edge Client Relations Manager; Review intern candidate applications, interview qualified candidates, select and process the intern hire via the Career Edge website; Assign a coach to support the intern when there are questions about workplace practices or norms specific to Canada (i.e. how to conduct business meetings, how to keep your coach informed on a regular basis); set performance expectations on the job; provide ongoing coaching as required and feedback on performance; share companyspecific information, practices and any jargon; and help the intern start to establish their professional network in Canada through introductions to internal and external contacts in their area of expertise. Q: What are the qualifications of a Career Edge candidate? To be eligible to register for the Career Edge paid internship program, internationally qualified professionals who are new to Canada must meet the following criteria: Be legally entitled to work in Canada; Have been in Canada no longer than three years; Have a minimum of three years of international work experience in their field; Possess at least a bachelor s degree from Canada or possess a recent Canadian assessment of international educational qualifications that demonstrates a minimum bachelor s equivalency; Lack paid Canadian work experience in their profession; Be seeking relevant Canadian business experience in non-regulated professional areas, including business operations, business management (i.e. project or process management), human resources, finance and accounting, technology, marketing, communications, engineering; and Be able to demonstrate strong English business communication skills in an interview.
6 Career Edge registrants must demonstrate significant English or bilingual (English/French) workplace communications skills (i.e. language fluency, articulation and ability to elaborate upon their educational background, work experience and career goals) during an in-person pre-screening behavioural-style interview conducted by a Career Edge Applicant Screener. Typically, Career Edge registrants have a master s level education or higher and over eight years of professional, mid-level international work experience in their field. Q: Who is considered the intern s employer during the six-month internship period? Since the intern is not a full-time employee or contractor working directly for the Associate Host, during the six-month internship period, Career Edge Organization, the organization that provides the Career Edge paid internship program, has the required employment contract with the Career Edge intern and manages the intern s payroll on behalf of the Associate Host. While the Associate Host coach should be the first contact for any intern questions or issues during the internship period, Career Edge Organization is also available to support both the intern and the Associate Host coach to ensure a successful internship experience. Within the first month of the internship, a Career Edge Organization Client Relations Manager will follow up with the intern and coach separately to ensure that all expectations are clear and that the internship is progressing well. Q: What are the hours of work for Career Edge interns? Interns typically work 35 to 40 hours per week, usually in line with the Associate Host s normal hours of work for their own full-time employees. Q: What support does Career Edge Organization provide to Associate Host organizations? During the initial intern hiring process, a Career Edge Organization Client Relations Manager will provide hands-on support to the designated hiring manager and/or assigned Associate Host coach to: Develop an effective internship posting; and Navigate the Career Edge website to post the internship opportunity, view candidate applications and process the intern hire. Q: Throughout the six-month internship period, Career Edge Organization will: Assign a Client Relations Manager as a single point of contact for the Associate Host hiring manager and/or coach and intern; Administer the intern s payroll and answer any intern payroll inquiries; Suggest effective, ongoing intern coaching activities to ensure a successful internship; and Provide ongoing support and consultation for any Associate Host inquiries during the internship period, such as, intern payroll, intern working conditions, statutory holidays and requests to hire the intern full-time. Q: Can the Associate Host extend a Career Edge internship beyond six months? It is possible to extend the internship term to a maximum of 12 months. In this case, the Associate Host should discuss the request with the Career Edge Organization Client Relations Manager. Q: What if the Career Edge intern resigns during the internship period? Since Career Edge internships are providing internationally qualified professionals with their first career-launching, resume-building work experience in Canada, an intern resignation is an unlikely occurrence. However, if the intern does resign before the scheduled end of their internship, the intern must give two weeks advance written notice to both the Associate Host and Career Edge Organization. Q: How can the Associate Host hire the Career Edge intern full-time? The Associate Host can hire the intern at the end of the internship or complete the internship early and hire the intern as a new employee. In such cases, the Associate Host should coordinate this request with Career Edge Organization. There are no additional fees associated with hiring an intern full-time at any time. / Trademark(s) of Royal Bank of Canada. RBC and Royal Bank are registered trademarks of Royal Bank of Canada.
