3 Information on Management and Staffing Regulation 8 (Management and Staffing) Compliant Non- Compliant There are a sufficient number of suitable and competent adults working directly with the pre school children at all times. There were 2 adults supervising 22 pre school children present at the morning sessional service. The service has a designated person in charge. The service has a named person who is able to deputise as required. An up-to-date and accurate personnel file is kept for each member of staff that includes the following records: Proof of identity and that the person is over 18 years of age; Proof of satisfactory Garda vetting, and international vetting (Police Clearance) where required; Two validated references, including a reference from the most recent place of employment; Verification of qualifications as stated on the notification form and for staff who state on their CV / Application Form that they are qualified. 4 Information on Health, Welfare & Development of Child Regulation 5 (Health, Welfare and Development of the Child) Compliant Non- Compliant BASIC NEEDS OF THE INFANTS AND CHILDREN Children are encouraged to self feed and assisted as required. Lunch was not rushed and children were given time to eat. Self toileting is handled in a positive and sensitive manner. Regular hand washing by the children was observed. Appropriate behaviour in the children was positively reinforced. RELATIONSHIPS AROUND THE CHILDREN SUPPORTED: The relationships around the children were supported. Overall the staff demonstrated sensitivity, warmth and positive regard for the preschool children and their families. Staff spoke to all children in a positive way and listened attentively to them. Staff were observed to be alert and responsive to the children s needs. PHYSICAL AND MATERIAL ENVIRONMENT: The indoor environment is comfortable, pleasant and safe for the children attending. This Sessional service provides a range of developmentally appropriate experiences for the children attending. The range of toys offer stimulation to all senses, are non toxic and easily cleaned. Materials and equipment are freely available and accessible to the children when needed i.e. art work displayed, items of interest at child eye level, shelving low and tables waist high for the children The outdoor environment is spacious, pleasant and safe and is laid out to accommodate the needs of the children and adults in the setting PROGRAMME OF ACTIVITIES AND ITS IMPLEMENTATION: It is acknowledged that the service has engaged with the National Curriculum Framework on the Aistear and Siolta National Quality Framework documents. Each child is enabled to participate actively in the daily routine. Curriculum planning and records of key observations on child development were recorded. The programme of activities provided a balance between child and adult initiated activities. Children were observed to be fully absorbed, enthusiastic and happy in the various activities engaged in throughout the day. Creative, manipulative, imaginative and physical play was observed during the course of the inspection Language development is encouraged through storytelling, variety of books, singing, and conversation/word games. Information on Health, Welfare & Development of Child Regulation 9 (Behaviour Management) Compliant Non- Compliant Written behaviour management policies and procedures are in place at the service. The service has reviewed and updated its behaviour management policy since last inspection. Staff demonstrated knowledge of what behaviour management methods are acceptable and unacceptable to use. 4 of 10
5 Regulation 18 (Premises and Facilities) Compliant Non- Compliant There was adequate space provided for the 22 pre school children in attendance. The premise is of sound and stable structure and safe and secure. Regulation 19 (Heating) Compliant Non- Compliant Adequate heating facilities are available throughout the service, having regard to the needs of the children who attend the service. Regulation 20 (Ventilation) Compliant Non- Compliant There is suitable means of ventilation provided on the premises. A wash hand basin, liquid soap and electric hand dryer are provided. Adult toilet accommodation is separate.
