Murali Patibandla's ambitious book combines his broad knowledge of the literature (in the New Institutional Economics, contract theory, and organization theory) with his deep knowledge of the polity and economy of India. He examines both recent successes and earlier failures of economic reform programs in India, with special emphasis on how the vitality of firms and markets are influenced by and are interactive with changes in economic policy. Patibandla's interpretation of these events is edifying; and his comparisons of India with other nation states (especially China) are fascinating. 6 Professional Experience Teaching and Training At present I teach MBA elective course on International Business at IIM Bangalore. The course and the instructor regularly secure teaching ratings of 4 out of 5. At IIMB, I teach the first year MBA course on corporate strategy. At IIMB I also teach a doctoral course on the Theory of the Firm. I take several classes for training of senior executives. I also guided several Masters Theses. Assistant professor of Economics at Indian Institute of Management, Ahmadabad, India, from April, 1994 to July, 1997 and Associate Professor till September At IIMA, the following teaching activity is undertaken; Course on Micro Economics, first year MBA. Students rated it the best course in and I secured ratings of 9 out of 10. I designed a new optional course on International Trade and Finance for second year students. It was offered during the last three years at IIMA with a registration of 135 students out of 165, and with a registration of 164 out of 165 for the academic year. Guided three doctoral theses: one on multinational firms, one on Indian banking sector and one on transaction costs and multinational firms. Guided several masters theses.
