3 1. Introduction The purpose of this document is to provide technical guidance to Members seeking to access to the Automated File Transfer Service (AFTS) that is used for Members to upload electronic Large Position Reports AFTS provides a file download service that can be used by users or back-office systems to upload a variety of data files. The AFTS is particularly suited to automation of uploads by back office systems. ICE FUTURES EUROPE Page 3 of 7
4 2. Online access to Clearing Systems In order to access the AFTS system online, i.e. via web browser, Members must comply with the following technical requirements. You are advised to discuss these requirements with your own technology teams. The web browser must meet the following minimum requirements: o Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) Version 6.0 or higher o JavaScript must be enabled Access to these systems makes use of secure http (https) as this ensures confidentiality of information traversing the internet by implementing encryption between the user s web browser and the ICE server. Your technical infrastructure must both permit you to access the internet and use https (port 443). The Live/Production AFTS system is accessed via the following URLs: AFTS (See 3 for further information regarding AFTS Access) Live System ICE FUTURES EUROPE Page 4 of 7
5 3. Uploading Data MEMBER POSITION REPORTS ICE Automated File Transfer Service (AFTS) SFTP LIVE: Username: allocated by ICE On an individual member basis Authentication is via private/public key and not password (see notes below) HTTPS LIVE: Username: allocated by ICE on an individual member basis Password: allocated by ICE on an individual member basis Notes Not accessible via a web browser Recommended for automated upload only. See Usage Notes for SFTP Accessible via Browser Also See Usage Notes for Downloads via HTTPS Usage Notes for SFTP. There are a large number of tools that support sftp (SSH/ftp) file transfer. Some are commercial offerings and others are free. Most large organisations regularly use this technology to securely move data between their and other organisations. This mechanism is best suited for automation of downloads. In any UNIX environment, the built in application/command sftp is used to access secure ftp sites: e.g. sftp euspan@euafts.theice.com. If using a PC, then there are several free tools available including psftp which is a command line tool forming part of the putty toolkit ( and is similar to sftp and suited to automation tasks or winscp ( which provides a GUI. If accessing private data files via AFTS, you will need to provide both a username and a key: e.g. psftp myuser@euafts.theice.com imyprivatekey.ppk In order to access files via SFTP, your technology team must enable outgoing access on IP Port 22. ICE FUTURES EUROPE Page 5 of 7
6 ICE supports public-key encryption for automated SFTP file transfers. Implementing public-key authentication requires a firm to generate a private and public key pair within their internal system. The public key is then transferred to ICE; the private key is kept guarded. ICE then uses the public key to validate the identity of the connecting firm server which uses the private key to unlock access. This process allows a firm to avoid specifying a password in clear text within an application or configuration file and is the industry-preferred authentication standard. Please contact ICE Clear Operations to obtain further information relating to the procedure for obtaining access via SFTP. Usage Notes for Downloads via HTTPS Generally, these protocols are used to support access from web browsers to online web services. These protocols are also used frequently to support the attended download of files to a user machine. The same technology can be used from within programmes and scripts to download files. Scripting languages/tools such as perl, curl, jython, python all provide the means to perform a file get operation from a given url. If you are accessing AFTS to download SPAN arrays you will specify the username, euspan, whereas, if you are accessing your private data files, you will need to specify a username and password provided by ICE. Please contact the ICE Information Security team ( infosec@helpdesk.cpex.com ) to obtain further information relating to the procedure for obtaining access via HTTPS. ICE FUTURES EUROPE Page 6 of 7
