1 Video server software From time to time software upgrades are issued for the video servers. These are posted on our website or on the product CD and consist of two parts, the application and the webpages. The application is the management program that runs the video server and the webpages are the user interface to control how the video server operates. What you will need Tools: A suitable PC/Laptop with Ethernet connection to the video server and possibly internet access to gain latest versions of the Application and/or webpages Software: Application and webpages software (both available at FTP software on local PC (to enable transfer to Video server). Why not check out How to use Telnet General Procedure This process applies to both Application Software and Webpages The general steps are as follows: - 1) Back up data on Video server to local PC. The FRM_DATA directory contains site specific data updated every time a page is saved within the browser. The ETC directory contains password and profiles needed for remote connection. 2) Transfer application or webpages to local PC with Ethernet connection to Video Server. 3) FTP application and/or webpages to video server. 4) Unzip application and reset video server 5) Configure video Server via webpages. 2 Downloading the software Select on your browser and at the base of the page is the option to download either PC application software (NetVu Client, Netvu config etc) or download firmware software (applications and webpages). In our example we will upgrade the webpages software for a TransVu FTP (File Transfer Protocol) Once downloaded from the Internet, the files on the PC now need to be transferred and unzipped on the video server. In this example we have used a TransVu and a PC running FTP software. To access the TransVu using FTP enter the DNS name or IP address in the sitename field. See example above. The label for the site is just a name you give to the connection and in this example we have used "TransVu_soaktest1". The default user name is "purpose" and the password is "scope". The FTP site connection port should be left at 21 and the Login type should be "Normal" unless a password has been applied to the video server. Once all is set up click the connect button. 3 Transferring files Once connected to the Video server a directory listing should be seen similar to the example below. Navigate to the local directory (left hand screen) where the recently downloaded files are stored. Drag and drop the application files and/or webpages onto the root directory of the video server (right hand screen). File: upgrade_your_software.doc V2.1 Page 3 of 6

4 Unzipping the application files To unzip the application or webpages a telnet session must be established. To set up a telnet session under Microsoft Windows click Start then Run and type Telnet <IP Address> for example Once connected a screen similar to the one below should be seen. Trying Connection established Welcome to the TransVu Aquila command line processor TRANSVU> Now type (or whatever the source file is called) TRANSVU> unzip vanguard_transvu026.zip and press enter. The new webpages will start to decompress and the unit will reply as shown below: - TRANSVU> unzip vanguard_transvu026.zip TransVu Aquila incorporates compression code from the Info-ZIP group. There are no extra charges or costs due to the use of this code, and the original compression sources are freely available from or ftp://ftp.cdrom.com/pub/infozip/ on the Internet. 5 This list of files can be quite long... inflating: mail\footer.html inflating: mail\header.html..done Checking registry file G:\registry... Registry check finished TRANSVU> WARNING: The present revision of webpages writes example files in the \\etc directory. These are MODEM.INI PATHS.INI HOSTS and PROFILES. If you have altered these files and wish to keep them it may be best to save these locally on your PC using FTP and after unzipping the webpages upload the files overwriting the new examples. The Video server has now been upgrade with new webpages. Please note: - The directory frm_data contains site specific data and should kept only as a back up of the original configuration. It is recommend that the data in this directory is not used with updated webpages software. Type: TRANSVU> RESET The Video server will now reset and run the new webpages software. Configuring the Webpages Open an Internet browser, for instance Microsoft Internet Explorer, and enter the IP address in the Address bar then press enter.
