1 PROGRAMME REGULATIONS Programme Schedule Bachelor of To be read in conjunction with the Bachelors Generic Regulations. 1. Programme Schedule This Programme Schedule applies to the Bachelor of (BConst) Level, credits 30, including majors in, Economics and Property Development. 2. Programme Specific Admission 2.1 Specific Admission To be admitted to this programme, all applicants must meet the following requirements in addition to the requirements set out in the Bachelors Generic Regulations: a. have at least 12 credits at NCEA level 2 in Mathematics; or b. have a grade of 5 or better in Sixth Form Mathematics, or equivalent. 3. Discretionary Admission Applicants under the age of 20 may be granted Discretionary admission if they have: a. B grades or higher in five out of the six Stage 4 and 5 subjects in the New Zealand Certificate in Building, Quantity Surveying or Architectural Draughting; or b. completed the academic requirements of the National Diploma in, Quantity Surveying or Architectural Technology; or c. an Advanced Diploma in Building or Quantity Surveying or Building Coordination. 4. Selection Criteria When the number of applications for admission exceeds the number of places available, the following selection criteria will be applied: a. Potential to succeed; b. Motivation to participate; c. Understanding of the field of study; Bachelor of Page 1

2 d. Membership of a group under-represented in the relevant professions. Potential to succeed is a required element of the selection profile. The remaining criteria are not ranked in any order. Applicants who meet the greatest number of criteria will be the preferred applicants. 5. Selection Process Selection will be made by a subcommittee of the Programme Committee set up for the purpose and with the delegated authority of that committee to offer places to applicants.. Requirements for the Award of the Qualification A student may undertake either a single major or a double major programme of study. Majors are:, Economics, and Property..1 Single Major To be awarded the Bachelor of with a single major, a student must successfully complete 30 credits from Levels 5 to, including at least 2 credits at level..1.1 Common compulsory courses for all majors Students must complete all courses in Table 1 (210 credits). 6 1 Unspecified electives must be approved by the Programme Leader. 2 All electives may not be made available every year..2 Double Majors To be awarded the degree with a second major, a student must successfully complete 420 credits from a programme of study accumulated in the patterns set out in Tables 1 and 5, or Tables 1 and, or Tables 1 and, or Tables 1 and 8 provided that: a. Except in exceptional circumstances a student may not complete an additional major in less than one year of study; and b. To complete an additional major in one additional year, a student will be required to undertake some concurrent study in each major. c. A student is normally required to complete the degree with a single major in a pattern of study of two full-time years, followed by two part-time years. In exceptional circumstances the Programme Committee may authorise a third year of full-time study where a student is an international student or has undertaken sufficient approved previous work experience..2.1 Economics / Double Major Students must complete courses from Tables 1 and 5. Credit Recognition and Exemptions.1 Completion of Unitec Bachelor of Architectural Studies, NZCQS or NDQS, NZCAD or NDAT, NZCB or NDCM, NDQS and Advanced Diplomas See Section 10: Modified Programmes of Study..1.1 Work Experience Where the academic requirements for the above qualifications were met more than five years prior to admission to the degree, a student will normally be required to show that they have substantial and recent employment in an area related to the discipline of the degree, before being able to undertake a modified programme of study..2 Exemptions At the discretion of the Programme Committee a student may be granted exemptions for Level 5 and courses only. Additional or alternative study requirements will be required of a student being granted exemptions in order to fulfil the degree credit requirements. Bachelor of Page 9

Assessment of Prior Learning 8.1 Alternative Pathways Potential exists for a second major to be attained through a Graduate Diploma where a student gaining a Unitec degree may return to Unitec after a period in industry to take an approved course of study in the Graduate Diploma and be awarded a second major. 9. Assessment 9.1 Assessment basis All assessments are achievement based using an 11 point grading scale. 9.2 Calculation of course grades a. A minimum mark of 40% in the final examination is required to achieve a pass in all courses where a final examination is prescribed. b. Course grades are calculated by the mathematical aggregation of weighted assessment marks. The following course grades shall be awarded to students who obtain the following marks. Students may be awarded one of the following grades for a course if they meet the criteria described. 11 9.3 Conditions applying to restricted pass a. A restricted pass shall be granted at the discretion of the Programme Committee. b. Restricted passes shall not be granted for more than two courses in any one academic year. c. A student who is awarded a restricted pass for a course and accepts it, but who wishes to take the course again, may do so for a Certificate of Proficiency only. 9.4 Assessment in te reo Maori a. A student may, at the beginning of the each academic year, request to be examined in te reo Maori, by identifying to the Programme Leader those assessment components of the programme for which they wish te reo Maori to apply. b. Once requested the Programme Leader will facilitate, by consultation and agreement, the establishment of an appropriate te reo Maori assessment structure. c. The assessment structure must be determined and agreed at least one month prior to the assessment date of any component of the programme in which it is requested that te reo apply. 10. Modified Programmes of Study 10.1 Completion of NZCAD or National Diploma in Architectural Technology A student who has obtained a New Zealand Certificate in Architectural Draughting or a National Diploma in Architectural Technology will be granted recognition of 15 credits towards the Degree. 12 10.2 Completion of National Diploma in A student who has obtained a National Diploma in will be granted recognition of 135 credits towards the Degree. Where a student is progressing from the National Diploma in or the National Diploma in Quantity Surveying they will be granted recognition of a further credits in CONS811 Tendering (total 15 credits). And where a student is progressing from the National Diploma in to the major they will be granted recognition of an additional credits in the course CONS401 Planning & Organisation 1 (total 180 credits). And where a student is progressing from the National Diploma in Quantity Surveying to the Economics Major, they will be granted recognition of an additional credits in the following course for CONS201 Measurement & Estimation 1 (total 180 credits). 20 11. Transitional arrangements 11.1 Transitional arrangements for students enrolled prior to 2014 a. Students first enrolled prior to 2014 shall continue to complete their programme of study by completing the nearest equivalent course as determined by the programme leader. With the following provisions: b. To graduate in the major students must complete: CONS308 2 (previous programme) or CONS403 Planning & Organisation 3 (revised programme); and CONS309 3 or CONS404 Planning & Organisation 4. c. To graduate in the Economics major students must complete: CONS10 Economics 2 or CONS203 Measurement & Estimation 3; and CONS11 Economics 3 or CONS204 Measurement & Estimation 4. d. To graduate in the Property Development major students must complete: CONS903 Property 2 or CONS908 Property Investment or as determined by Programme Leader The following policy will apply to students enrolled in the programme prior to A student who has successfully completed credits in the programme prior to 2009 will have the total value of those credits recognised as part of his/her Bachelor of programme of study.9 A student, to be awarded the Bachelor of with a single major, must successfully complete a minimum of 30 credits and his/her programme of study must be approved by the Programme Committee, with authority delegated to the Programme Leader. a. A student who enrolled in the programme prior to 2009 shall come under the regulations as at the time of first enrolment. Bachelor of Page 20

21 b. In all such circumstances where the student would otherwise be disadvantaged a modified individual course of study shall be approved by the Programme Committee. c. Where a student first enrolled prior to 2009 has successfully completed a prerequisite under the 2009 regulations but not under a previous regulation shall be permitted enrolment under the 2009 pre-requisite. d. Where a student s course of study results in a credit short fall unspecified credits of up to credits at any level may be granted with the approval of the Programme Committee. 12.
