Electives selected must meet academic requirements for course pre-requisites completion of the programme. 7. Integration of Practical / Work Based Components Practical/work based components are integrated into the relevant courses throughout the three years a strong emphasis on the industry project in the final year. 8. Assessment 8.1 Assessment basis All assessment is achievement based using an 11 point grade scale. 8.2 Course Grades Course grades will be determined by the mathematical aggregation of weighted marks using the following conversion. Table 9: Course Grades Grade Definition A+ Met all course requirements-mark in range [90-100] A Met all course requirements-mark in range [85-89] Bachelor Of Technology Page 11
12 A- Met all course requirements-mark in range [80-84] B+ Met all course requirements-mark in range [75-79] B Met all course requirements-mark in range [70-74] B- Met all course requirements-mark in range [65-69] C+ Met all course requirements-mark in range [60-64] C Met all course requirements-mark in range [55-59] C- Met all course requirements-mark in range [50-54] D Did not meet course requirements. Mark in range [40-49] E Did not meet course requirements. Mark in range [0-39] Other Results Students may be awarded one of the following grades for a course if they meet the criteria described. Grade AEG APEL 1 CC 1 CT NFY 2 DNC WD 3 NRE 4 ADV 5 Definition Awarded pass following consideration of impaired performance/aegrotat application Awarded pass following assessment of evidence of prior experience current skills Credit granted on basis of learning outcomes met via passes in other course(s) Awarded pass equivalent course already passed Course not yet finished, runs into more than one calendar year The student has not completed has not formally withdrawn. Formal withdrawal application processed prior to completion of course. No result expected Advanced Sting awarded for approved credits 1 Unitec uses CR (Credit Recognition) for CC APEL 2 Unitec uses CTG for NFY 3 Unitec uses W for WD 4 Unitec uses NGA (No Grade Associated) for NRE 5 Weltec use EX for Advanced Sting 8.3 Restricted passes There will be no restricted passes awarded. 8.4 Resits/Reassessments Resubmissions Resubmissions Where minor reworking (fix-up) of an aspect of an assessment will enable the student to achieve a passing grade, resubmissions will be allowed. As a guide, the work must be able to be resubmitted within two working days of receipt of feedback. In all cases, the original marked assessment will accompany resubmitted assessments Resits/Reassessments Bachelor Of Technology Page 12
13 The terms resit reassessment have the same definition an opportunity for students to undertake a further assessment after more learning has taken place. There will be no resits/reassessments in the programme. Where students do not pass a course, if they wish to achieve that course, they will be required to re-enrol. 8.5 Impaired Performance Where students are absent from a summative assessment event, or are unable to perform to the best of their ability through critical circumstances beyond their control which may include: illness, injury, bereavement, family crisis, or other unpredictable events, an application for an Aegrotat or Impaired Performance assessment may be considered. Where a student considers that their performance in an assessment has been seriously impaired through critical circumstances beyond their control which may include illness, injury, bereavement, family crisis, or other unpredictable events, an impaired performance application may be made for reconsideration of result. Programme Committee/Heads of School are responsible for ensuring that all applications are processed according to the approved procedures of the relevant ITP. Any reconsideration of result following an impaired performance application must not disadvantage the student. 9. Normal Progression Students must meet all pre-requisite requirements listed on the table below for progression through the programme. 9.1 Prerequisite Table Refer to Section 5, Tables Transition Arrangements There are three institutions that deliver the Bachelor of Technology require transition arrangements from the current degree curricula to the new degree curriculum. They are: Christchurch Institute of Technology Polytechnic (CPIT) Manukau Institute of Technology (MIT) Unitec As the ITPs currently deliver three different programmes the transition arrangements are different. The specific approaches are covered in the Capability Documents of the three institutions. An overview of the three approaches: CPIT will teach out the current curriculum phase in the new degree from Most students will have completed by 2011 but for part time students students who need to repeat a course the old curriculum will remain till Bachelor Of Technology Page 13
14 MIT Unitec have curricula that more closely match the new curriculum. Students will transition from the old to the new with a cut-off date of 2012 in both cases. MIT will phase in the new curriculum on a year by year basis from Unitec will offer Year 1 from 2010, Years 2 3 from Common approaches between the three institutions are: No student shall be disadvantaged by the change to the new curriculum. The academic integrity will not be compromised. Students will be fully informed of changes potential impact. Where a member of the Metro Group currently delivers a Bachelor of Technology, that ITP is required to obtain approval for a Transition schedule, including timeframes for the transition arrangements. Approval must be obtained from both the Programme Management Group the Quality Assurance Group prior to the commencement of this new programme. (Refer Volume 2, Capability Document). Version 2 of the Bachelor of Technology (Civil Major) programme comes into effect Semester 1, Current students enrolled prior to 2015 are to transfer to Version 2 at the first reasonable opportunity.
