WEBSITE RESOURCE ON GRANTS AND BENEFITS FOR INDIVIDUALS This free resource provides a charitable service which helps people access the money available to them through welfare benefits, grants and other help. The website has been designed to help individuals find appropriate sources of financial support, quickly and easily, based on their particular needs and circumstances. It also supports intermidiary organisations which work with members of the public. 2. SHROPSHIRE COUNCIL BUSINESS FUNDING WEBPAGES Shropshire Council s website has up to date information on a range of financing options for new and existing small businesses, including: Shropshire and Herefordshire Business Enterprise Fund Shropshire Small Business Loan Fund Marches LEP Redundant Building Grant Funding for farming and land based businesses Equity funding Links to searchable online funding databases, featuring hundreds of different schemes 3. 2 THE STARTUPS AWARDS This award seeks to reward and celebrate the UK's best business start-ups and represent an opportunity for companies to gain recognition for the outstanding achievements of the business, team or individual. In addition to receiving a glass trophy to commemorate their success, winners will benefit from national and regional press coverage to raise their company's profile. Both winners and finalists will be provided with a logo to use on marketing literature and letterheads and a template press release to maximise media coverage. The 2012 Awards are broken down into the following categories: Startups Business of the Year Online Business of the Year Mobile Business of the Year Innovative Business of the Year Product Business of the Year Franchisee of the Year Trades Start-up of the Year Freelance Start-up of the Year Home-based Business of the Year Young Start-up of the Year Start-up Business Woman of the Year Siler Fox Award for the Year Adversity Award for the Year Angel or VC-backed Business of the Year The Awards are open to privately-owned UK-based businesses that have recently started up and those that have been trading for up to three years and have less than 60 employees. Registrations for the 2012 round of awards are now invited. Entry forms will be available from 13 July 2012 and must be submitted by 7 September THE GROWING BUSINESS AWARDS (GBAS) These awards celebrate the achievements of the UK's innovative high-growth businesses. However, it is not just well-established companies that the GBA honours; the awards welcome applications from new, innovative businesses. Category winners will be presented with an award and benefit from the publicity, media promotion and brand exposure associated with the event. The 2012 categories open to entries are as follows: 2
3 Company of the Year Entrepreneur of the Year Young Company of the Year Young Entrepreneur of the Year Export Champion of the Year The Made in Britain Award Young Star of Enterprise Local Hero Funding Partner of the Year Digital Champion Innovator of the Year The Awards are open to any business that is independently owned, employs fewer than 1,000 people and is based in the UK. Some categories have more specific entry requirements. The deadline for entries is 21 September INNOVATION, EXCELLENCE AND STRATEGIC DEVELOPMENT FUND (DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH) Applicants are invited to submit proposals to develop new, innovative approaches to health and care, actively share excellent practice or improve integrated care and efficiency. Organisations can apply individually, or in partnership with others. The fund is open to Section 64 voluntary organisations, i.e. those that provide a service similar to a service provided by the National Health Service or by local authority social services, promoting, publicising or providing advice to do with providing either a national health or local authority social service or a similar service. To be eligible for investment, the proposed activities must meet the following conditions: Have, or plan to have, an effect nationally. This includes testing pilot work at a local level if it can be replicated nationally. Equality and tackling health inequalities must be a central part of all activities. The average size of grant in the previous round of funding was 93k. YouthNet is one organisation that has benefited from the fund, allowing it to redevelop its confidential online question and answer service. Through young people are able to access confidential expert advice on any issue that is affecting their lives. The deadline for the initial registration is 7 th applications is 21 st September September and deadline for SOCIAL INCUBATOR FUND 3
4 Established social investment / enterprise incubators that are based and operating primarily in England are eligible to apply for funding that will help them to provide investment and support to early stage social ventures. Social incubators are expected to offer a portfolio of intensive support over a set period and to each have the capacity to help 50+ social ventures over the life of the project. Applicants must be able to demonstrate that their project will help achieve at least the first two of the following outcomes: Improved quality and quantity of early stage social ventures seeking finance from the Investment and Contract Readiness Fund and/or social investment intermediaries. Improved signposting between social investment intermediaries for early stage social ventures, particularly to enable them to secure further investment if appropriate. Increased no. of social investors making investments into early stage social ventures. There are two elements to the funding and applicants are expected to apply for both: Between 50,000 and 250,000 per year towards operating costs for up to four years. Between 100,000 and 750,000 per year to contribute to an investment book, which is to be invested within two years. The maximum total amount that can be applied for is 1.5 million. The deadline for applications is 21 September 2012 (12 noon). Subsequent rounds of this fund are expected to launch in 2013 and These rounds will be open to applications from newer social incubators. 4

Recent Grant Awards July 2012/13 Funder / Programme Applicant Project Award Awards for All Rushbury Millennium Green Trust To aid the creation of a playground for pre-school children, improving 10,000 outdoor facilities in the village and increasing the range of physical activities available to a wider age group. Whixall Primary School The group will use funding to install an outdoor community picnic area 3,448 with activity panel station, safe surfacing and picnic tables for the community. Green Room Youth Project To enable the provision of summer and winter holiday schemes, running 7,032 arts and crafts sessions and create a video magazine about their village life, with sports based activities to include archery for young people. This will provide a range of activities and reduce anti-social behaviour. Bitterley Pre-School The grant is for the resurfacing of the pre-school's outdoor area for 9,954 children. This will improve the outside environment to create an allweather space to enable increased learning opportunities. Ercall Magna Parish Council Funding to run tree dressing events and environmental workshops and 8,560 to hold a Queen's Diamond Jubilee event for three neighbouring parishes. This will bring about increasing awareness of the environment and increased community cohesion.
