1 Jesuit Universities Online Nursing Degrees Articulation Manual
2 Jesuit Universities Online Nursing Degrees Since the time they launched their first school in 1548, the Jesuits have believed that a high quality education is the best path to meaningful lives of leadership and service. These values are paramount for the 28 regionally-accredited U.S. Jesuit colleges and universities that operate in 19 states and enroll over 200,000 students. In addition to the broad arts and science programs offered at all 28 campuses, AJCU universities operate 4 medical schools, 14 law schools, 27 business schools, 14 education schools, 8 engineering schools, and 19 nursing schools. Each year, thousands of students in many of the 28 U.S. Jesuit Colleges and Universities return to class. But unlike their fellow students at Jesuit campuses, they are not going to classrooms. Rather, they are receiving instruction, discussing issues, asking questions, and completing assignments over the Internet--all largely at their own convenience and from practically anywhere. Jesuit institutions offer 500 online courses and programs to over 10,000 students annually. These online offerings meet the diverse, growing needs of both traditional and non-traditional learners by providing a flexible and convenient way to learn, and by complementing classroom learning at Jesuit institutions. Grounded in a 450-year scholastic tradition, Jesuit nursing programs are committed to the highest standards of lifelong learning and excellence in the Jesuit tradition. These programs prepare men and women for compassionate practice as competent professionals through scholarship, leadership in service to the community, the nursing profession, and personal growth. Educational quality is paramount in Jesuit online curriculum design and development, and Jesuit online nursing programs incorporate the following attributes into their curricula: Academic Rigor by providing the online student with the same level of dynamic, hands-on instruction that characterizes the best on-campus lectures, seminars and laboratories Personalized Instruction by designing extensive student-faculty and studentstudent discussions and projects into online courses Faculty Advisement and Support by requiring online faculty time for program advisement and discipline discussions outside of course-related communications Service to Others by requiring service learning option assignments within courses, and encouraging possible service to and through electronic communities (to such groups as the elderly, disabled, and disadvantaged) Ethical Concerns by ensuring that ethics topics are built into online course content, and that online students are treated in an ethical manner regarding marketing, instruction, support and career services Close student-teacher relationships in these online programs prepare nurses who exemplify the highest ethical standards, integrity, and passion for justice in health care. Jesuit nursing education is characterized by two core values--respect for the dignity of the person, and justice in the allocation, administration and delivery of health-care services. These programs are dedicated to developing critical reasoning vital to judgment and ethical decision making in professional practice. In the tradition of Jesuit education, they provide a foundation for nursing knowledge and a spirit of inquiry. 1
