2 Strategic Policy & Budget Gerald Tommy won the 4Ps (Public Private Partnerships Programme) Best Project Leadership award The e recruitment system has been nominated for an award for making services accessible to the public using IT need more info. Nominated as East Midlands Employer of the Year by Chesterfield College for the Craft Apprenticeship Scheme operating within Corporate Resources. Achieving a ranking on 63 rd out of 317 employers in the Stonewall Workplace Equality Index (Stonewall Top 100 Employers). Derbyshire County Council was the 10 th best Local Authority. Regional finalists in the most effective service transformation project for the Integration of daytime social care enquiries project. Legal Services have successfully retained the Law Society s Management Accreditation, also known as LEXCEL. The following were all Public Relations achievements: Finalists in the Best Newspaper or Magazine category in the Midlands for the B_Line magazine. Regional silver prize winners in the Integrated Communities category, finalists in the national Best Communications Partnership category in the Midlands, national winner in the Best Integrated Campaign category and Grand Prix Winner nationally in the Best Overall Campaign for the Bikes Aren t Dangerous project. Finalists in the Best Event category in the Midlands for the Excellence in the Community event. Finalists in the National Best Green Press category and The Community Relations category in the Midlands and Highly Commended in the Green PR category for the Fly-tipping Help put a stop to it project. Silver prize winners in the Midlands and the National winner in the Best Leaflet category for the Helping Boys Succeed at School leaflet.
3 Silver prize winners in the Best Newspaper or Magazine category in the Midlands for the Insight magazine. National finalists in the Best Publication category for the One and All publication. Finalists in the Best Leaflet category in the Midlands for the Uni 4 U project. Finalists in the Midlands and Highly Commended Nationally in the Outstanding In-House PR Team category. PR achieved seven awards for the This is Me project including being National finalists and silver and gold prize winners and finalists in the Midlands. The Chief Executive s and Corporate Resources Departments have had a successful IIP assessment and have again received this accreditation.
4 Schools The Support Service for Physically Impaired children (SSPI) achieved Chartermark status for a further three years with high praise and full compliance Jackie Johnson (Eureka Primary) received a commendation in the BT Teacher of the Year category Karen Hambleton (Eureka Primary) received a distinction in the National College for School Leadership (NCSL) Headteacher of the Year category Eureka Primary School has won first place in the regional DCSF Award for Sustainable Schools Derbyshire Catering Service short listed for a national marketing award at the 12 th Annual Local Authority Catering Association awards Lynette Tilley, winner of the 2007 School Chef of the Year, won the Cost Sector Chef of the Year award at the Craft Guild of Chefs awards The Delves Community School, Swanwick, has been awarded specialist sports status Rt Hon Beverley Hughes MP, Minister of State for Children, Young People and Families, has offered her congratulations to everyone involved in completing the delivery and designation of our phase 2 Sure Start Children s Centres. Brookfield School became the first school library to hold a Quality Library Award. The achievement was written up in the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals magazine (CILIP) and has created interest from other schools in other regions Eureka Primary School won the Plato award for most sustainable school in the East Midlands at the Regional Teaching Awards Lynette Tinney, catering supervisor at Coton-in-the-Elms Primary School, won the prestigious award of becoming a member of the Craft Guild of Chefs. Only two Local Authority Chefs/Cooks has ever received this award. Both from Derbyshire, the other being Sue Wills, Hasland Hall in 2005.
5 The PACE after-school club project in Erewash (Physical Activity in Children Everywhere) was recently inspected by Quest, the UK Quality Scheme for sport, and judged to be Excellent with a score of 87% one of only two organisations in the country to receive such a high score at the first attempt. The project is a collaboration between Erewash Borough Council, Derbyshire County Primary Care Trust Healthy Schools team and Groundwork Derby.
6 Community Safety Following a three day inspection by the Home Office of the DAAT s Drugs Intervention Programme the reviewers spoke of being ''extremely impressed with the service delivered across Derbyshire'' and said they would be taking away several examples of good practice and attempting to promulgate these nationally A project run by the Youth Offending Service in Long Eaton made the shortlist for the Justice Awards 2008 in the Working with offenders (team) category Derbyshire has become the first youth offending service to implement the wiring up justice programme for improved information sharing. The programme concerns the implementation of a Police Electronic Notification Form for Youth Offending Services.
7 Adult Social Services South Derbyshire District Council awarded the Newhall Centre s Bloomers Café with a Five Star rating as part of National Food Safety Week. The café, part of the centre s.bloomin Marvellous garden centre, is maintained by adults with learning disabilities The Shires Project (joint healthcare scheme between PCT and DCC) was a runner up in the category Medicines information for carers or non-healthcare professionals working with patients or medicine users at the annual Ask About Medicines Awards. The integration of Social Care service into the Call Centre was shortlisted for an award at the third annual North West Call and Contact Centre Awards CSE has been received for day services for older people and ISO for home care services. Retained 3* award status for the department
8 Cultural Services The Cultural and Community Services Department was re-awarded the Investors In People standard. The assessor s report stated that: The assessor s report says: some organisations do Investors in People and some are an Investor in People. Cultural and Community Services are a true Investor in People.. There was no doubt in the minds of people spoken to during this assessment that continuous improvement was the norm in order to sustain and strengthen the position of this effective department within Derbyshire County Council. The Trading Standards service was successful in retaining its Charter Mark status Buxton Museum and Art Gallery was winner of the Best Exhibition category in the Renaissance Heritage Awards for Derbyshire, 2008, for its exhibition on the life of Andrew Cavendish, 11 th Duke of Devonshire The Trading Standards Division had a letter of thanks from Derbyshire Police for its contribution towards tackling underage sales of alcohol as part of Operation Relentless Cultural and Community Services has been shortlisted for the prestigious e-government national awards in the Local e- Government excellence: Take-up & usage growth category for the 24 hour library campaign: increasing take-up of online services. Trading Standards have achieved ISO 9000 re-accreditation. Derbyshire Libraries were chosen as November s Local Authority of the Month in the National Year of Reading campaign.
9 Children s Services Local inclusion officer service have achieved customer service excellence.
