1 DRDC Centre for Security Science (CSS) Created through a Memorandum of Understanding between the Department of Na8onal Defence (DND) and Public Safety Canada in 2006 to establish a dedicated centre for the development of S&T related to public safety and na8onal security. Two roles: 1) DRDC CSS is responsible for the management of Canadian Safety and Security Program (CSSP) 2) Providing S&T advice, exper8se and services to the federal government The Canadian Safety and Security Program (CSSP) is a program that: enhances public safety and security capability; builds and sustains cross- func8onal networks; and provides evidence- based advice and support to public safety and security prac88oners and decision makers.

11 Who are digital volunteers? (Crowdsourcing SA) Digital volunteers use technology to help disaster survivors and to assist disaster management organiza8ons who may not have the 8me or resources to process the vast amount of data generated during an emergency. Some digital volunteers join interna8onal virtual and technical communi8es (VTCs) to repeatedly support humanitarian aid and relief efforts in major disasters around the world (e.g. Micromappers deployed by UNOCHA in Nepal) 11

15 Smoke forecasts from wildland fires for Canada Smoke forecasts are being generated daily nationally up to the Arctic Ocean. These forecasts are run at a 12 km resolution for 50 hours.

16 Smoke forecasts from wildland fires for Canada Regional domains are also available, running at 4 km resolution to provide more detailed analysis.
