1 Site Analysis / Research STEP 1: In Illustrator open your class-02 file _ go to the main menu File _ Export STEP 2: from the Export window set the Save as Type to: AutoCAD Drawing (*DWG) _ Save the file in your class-03 folder as your: initials_site_diagram.dwg 1 STEP 3: from the DXF / DWG Options window check on: Scale Lineweights _ click OK STEP 4: open AutoCAD _ click on the Big A _ select Open (Ctrl+O) _ browse for your: site_diagram.dwg

2 STEP 5: from the AutoCad Alert window click on Yes to convert text STEP 6: from the Open Foreign DWG File window _ click on Continue opening DWG file STEP 7: type Units _ Enter _ change type to: Architectural _ click OK STEP 8: type LA (layer manager) _ Enter _ click on the snowflake to thaw the layer Base Map _ click on the lock to unlock the layer 5 7 Note: the drawing that you created in Illustrator was not to scale. In AutoCAD we typically draw at full scale. click on the snow flake & lock the next steps will look at finding information on the web to help us scale the drawing in AutoCAD

3 STEP 9: click on this link: click on: View Zoning Map STEP 10: click Accept STEP 11: change the Street Number to: 2400 _ change the Street Name to: Cannon DR _ click Find Address click on STEP 12: using the Pan tool _ pan east & north to find the Theater on the Lake 9 11 theater on the lake

4 244 STEP 13: using the Measure tool _ measure the length of the building _ (roughly 244 Feet) STEP 14: in AutoCAD type Scale _ Enter type All (objects) _ Enter type 0,0 (base point) _ Enter type R (reference) _ Enter specify the reference length as shown in image 14 specify new length _ type 244 _ Enter 13 reference length 15 STEP 15: type LA (layer manager) _ select all the layers except 0 & Base Map _ click on the Sun to freeze the layers new layer STEP 16: click on the New Layer button _ name the new layer: Site Boundary

5 current layer STEP 17: click on the Current Layer button _ click on the Color button color STEP 18: select Index color: 4 - Cyan STEP 19: type Spline _ Enter _ trace the site outline as show in image 19 (note: don t click on last point _ type CL to close the spline _ use the least amount of points as possible) 17 STEP 20: create a new layer name it: Site Grid change the color to: Index color: 1 - Red make the layer Current 19 save the file in your class-03 folder as your: initials_site_plan.dwg select color

6 STEP 21: type L (Line) _ draw a horizontal line as shown in image 21 Copy / Offset / Array STEP 22: type Copy _ Enter select the line _ Enter click anywhere (base point) move mouse vertical type 10 _ Enter press ESC key STEP 23: type Offset _ Enter type 10 (distance) _ Enter select the line click on the side to offset press ESC key STEP 24: type Array _ Enter click on: Select objects _ select last line _ Enter set Rows: 10 set Columns: 1 set Row offset: 10 click OK Ctrl+S (save) draw line Offset Copy Array

7 STEP 25: repeat the Array command to fill in the entire site boundary STEP 26: type Trim _ Enter select the Site Boundary _ Enter click on the side of the line to be trimmed _ ESC STEP 27: create a new layer name it: Footprint change the color to: Index color: 6 - Magenta make the layer Current freeze the layer: Base Map STEP 28: type OS (object snaps) _ set snaps to: endpoint, midpoint & perpendicular only _ click OK

9 STEP 33: click on the pull-down labeled None _ select New STEP 34: select Start from scratch _ click Next STEP 35: name it: Arch 125 _ click Next STEP 36: select Plot Style Table Editor

10 STEP 37: set colors 1-6 to: Black (note: each color needs to be set individually) STEP 38: select Color 1 _ select Lineweight pull-down _ set to: mm _ set Lineweights for Colors 2-6 as shown in image 38 STEP 39: click on Save & Close STEP 40: set Drawing Orientation to: Landscape _ click on OK _ save the file in your class-03 folder as your: initials_site_plan.pdf

11 Homework Assignment 03: Finish tracing the rest of the site to complete the Site Plan. Your drawing should show the sidewalks, bike paths, running paths, boat docks, trees, and roads to the extents shown in the image below. Each of these Layers of information should be drawn on an individual Layer. Design a simple building Footprint similar to the one created in the in-class exercise. Include: Arch 125 Class 03 Your Name Before next class upload the finished JPEG to your web page (see the class-01 tutorial p.4). Print and bring an 11x17 print with you to class to hand in (see the class-02 tutorial p.6). Site Plan Extents (note: do not include base map image 11
