Bachelor Degree Program: Prevention, Inclusion und Rehabilitation (PIR) in Hearing Impairment 2. Bachelor Degree Program: Prevention, Inclusion und Rehabilitation (PIR) in Hearing Impairment (Model Study Program) Both courses comprise two subjects: major and minor, carrying 120 and 60 ECTS points respectively. Bachelor Degree Program 1: In this study program for Prevention, Inclusion und Rehabilitation (PIR) in Hearing Impairment, the following minor subjects, each carrying 60 points, are offered: Evangelical Theology Informatics
2 Catholic Theology Orthodox Theology Education/ Educational Science (numerus clausus i.e. restricted admission) Political Science (Aptitude Test) Psychology (numerus clausus) Comparative Cultural and Religious Studies (numerus clausus). Each combination of major and selected minor subjects is geared towards all age-groups: preschool, support school or post-school education of the Deaf or the Hard of Hearing (HOH). Bachelor Degree Program 2 This PIR study program (Model Study Program) includes one minor subject only- Primary School Education and Didactics for PIR in Hearing Impairment. The program is geared towards teacher training, representing a total of 300 ECTS points for the whole study period, comprising bachelor and master degrees and the first state examination in Special Education. The three-fold qualification is unique in the field of teacher training at Ludwig-Maximilians-University and the respective course is therefore ranked as a Model Study Program. This type of study program, combining the bachelor and consecutive master degrees in either PIR- Education of the Deaf (Model Study Program) or PIR Education of the Hard of Hearing (Model Study Program) and followed by the first state examination, will lead to a professional qualification for teaching deaf or hearing impaired pupils. 3 The Bachelor Study Program The Bachelor study program Prevention, Inclusion und Rehabilitation (PIR) in Hearing Impairment, has an interdisciplinary profile, leading to a professional qualification for preschool, support school and post-school employment, and, if combined with the consecutive PIR Master Program (Model Study Program), a teaching qualification (diploma) for Teaching HOH pupils or further professional employment with a specifically academic profile. The course includes a basic grounding in medical knowledge relating to the Deaf and HOH, pedagogy and didactics in the education of pupils in varying levels of language training classes, audiology, psychology, linguistics and phonetics and HOH communication proficiency. The program for Education of the Deaf includes language proficiency in German Sign Language. An insight into related interdisciplinary subjects such as networked thinking, teamwork and communication skills features strongly in this course, together with all aspects analysis, evaluation, reinforcement and structuring- governing research. Special emphasis is placed on communication skills, presentation technique and specialist didactics, not only with a view to teaching but related to the HOH in general. Structure / Module The standard period of study is six semesters, including the scheduled period for completion of the bachelor thesis. The study combines compulsory modules with compulsory elective modules. Compulsory modules form a mandatory part of the degree course whereas compulsory elective modules offer a selection of choice. The required number of elective modules may not be exceeded. An elective module will later include an examination, module examination or a preparatory examination in the subjects of choice, which may not be dropped or changed. A module consists of a series of lectures followed by a module examination or one or more sub-module examinations, for which the successful candidate will be awarded a certain number of ECTS points and grades. A module usually spans one or (at the most) two semesters. The content of the module represents a multiple of three ECTS points. Fulfillment of admission criteria is a prerequisite to enrolment for the modules. 1. and 2. Important Information The online application is basically an application for a Bachelor Degree in PIR in Hearing Impairment. Your selection of minor subjects will commit you to one of the two study disciplines: either preschool, support school and post-school or the school teaching program. Candidates opting for school teaching, which corresponds to the Model Study Program, must select and specify the Model Study Program ( Modellstudiengang ) in their application for the Bachelor Degree in PIR in Hearing Impairment. Please note that minor subjects classified as numerus clausus subjects will require an application. Subjects with open admissions may be selected at enrolment. The degree course, PIR in Hearing Impairment, combining the major subject (120 ECTS points) with Pedagogy and Didactics in Primary School Teaching (60 ECTS points ), will enable the successful graduate to complete a Master Degree (Model Study Program) whilst offering preparatory tuition for the first state examination in Special Education Teaching, primarily focusing on hearing disability; either visual / auditory (Education of the Deaf) or auditory / visual (Education of the HOH). Professional Prospects Graduates holding a bachelor degree in PIR in Hearing Impairment are qualified to work in all fields of prevention, inclusion and rehabilitation in all age groups of the HOH, including those with auditory processing or perception disorders, e.g. educational-audiologic early intervention, educational-audiologic consulting, hearing and speech-language development, diagnostics, supervisory care, support, counselling, association work, communication training or writing interpreting. Bachelor degree graduates following the Model Study Program ( Modellstudiengang )PIR in Hearing Impairment may enrol for the consecutive Master Program in PIR in Education of the Deaf (Modellstudiengang) or the Master Program in PIR in Education of the Hard of Hearing. (Modellstudiengang), leading to a qualifying examination and the first state examination in Special Education, which will further qualify the successful teacher trainee to acquire a preparatory practical training post as teacher for the Deaf or teacher for the HOH.

Knowledge of English is an advantage. Desired Profile The Bachelor Degree Program indicates a strong interest in preventive, inclusive and rehabilitative fields of activity governing education of the Deaf or the Hard of Hearing, at all ages from early childhood to old age. Furthermore, students will be expected to specialise in either Education of the Deaf or Education of the Hard of Hearing, as well as to acquire the necessary communication skills, e.g. transfer skills. Openness towards an interdisciplinary approach governing theory, practice and science is further anticipated. The Modellstudiengang Bachelor assumes a strong interest in special education teaching related to the Deaf or HOH, as well as a commitment to the consecutive Master Degree and first state examination. Of paramount importance is a strong motivation to acquire the necessary didactical and methodological skills and competence in general and specifically the communicative skills for interaction with the HOH. Transfer skills and openness towards an interdisciplinary approach governing theory, practice and science are crucial throughout the entire course.
