2 Canada/EU Trade Agreement (CETA) Negotiations launched May, 2009 Agreement text completed August, 2014 Legal scrubbing and translation Concluded in September, 2014 Legislation to implement the deal must be passed in both Canada and the EU

3 90% of the tariffs in Canada and EU will be eliminated on implementation of the Agreement Including most seed tariffs Exceptions: Durum Wheat Tariffs will be phased out over 7 Rye years, beginning on implementation and ending Oats January 1 of year 7 Preferential tariffs will only be granted for seed that is produced and harvested in Canada

9 From the Market Access Secretariat: The current embargo on many agricultural products, imposed by the Russian Federation on August 7, 2014, does not apply to seeds Canadian companies who have been exporting seed to Russia can continue to do so. The Russian certification requirements for importing seeds from Canada remain unchanged Canadian Food Inspection Agency protocols to certify Canadian seed exports also remain unchanged.
