1 AVANT GARDE GOWNS EXHIBITION ENTRY GUIDELINES Local designers, students, and fashion enthusiasts within the state of Texas are invited to register for the 6th Annual Avant Garde Going Green Gowns Exhibition during Fashion Week San Antonio PLEASE READ AND REVIEW ALL RULES/INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE SUBMISSION OF ANY MATERIALS.

2 AVANT GARDE OVERVIEW Local designers and fashion enthusiasts within the state of Texas are eligible to participate through registration and submission of a garment for consideration. Collaborations and multiple entries are accepted, however, only ONE ENTRY PER FORM. GUIDELINES 1. Participating designers must submit an illustration of one or more AVANT GARDE, HIGH FASHION GOWN OR EVENING COCK- TAIL DRESS made of sustainable, organic, recycled, repurposed, reused, or green materials for s election to be showcased in the Avant Garde Going Green Gowns Exhibition. (See illustration form and designer application). What is Avant Garde in fashion? A term that refers to the creative and/or innovative activity that fragments or rejects the norm; performance art. What is High Fashion? A term that refers to the creation of exclusive custom, quality clothing designed with extreme attention to detail. What is a gown? A loose OR fitted garment from knee- to full-length women s garment consisting of a bodice and attached skirt. 2. ALL submissions must possess the shape/silhouette of a gown or evening cocktail dress. (Please refer to the preceding description). 3. Gowns/dresses MUST have an AVANT GARDE, HIGH FASHION inspiration/theme. 4. Gowns/dresses MUST have EXCELLENT construction quality able to withstand required fittings and showcase on a selected live model. 5. Gowns/dresses may be constructed with sewing, glue, staples, tape, and other creative methods, however, garments MUST NOT be harmful to the selected model. 6. Gowns/dresses MUST include appropriate, functional closures and professional finishings (clean hemlines, seams, appliqués, embellishments, etc.) in other words, garments MUST close properly and all appliqués and embellishments must be firmly adhered. MATERIALS/ SIZING GUIDELINES The following are examples of suggested materials that can be used individually or in combination in the garment design. Newspapers Aluminum cans Magazines Paper Denim Plastic Plastic Bottles Coconuts Corks Sea grass Bottle Caps Shopping Bags Playing Cards Shopping Bags Straws Toothpicks Rubber Bamboo Rocks or stones Wire Glass Dried Leaves Dried Flowers Wood Sheep Wool Organic Cotton Thin/Light weight metals Styrofoam Plastic ware Please use the following sizing information as a guide when constructing your garments. Upon acceptance and inclusion in the Avant Garde Going Green Gowns Exhibition, models within the following measurements will be assigned to designers for garment fittings and custom alterations. DESIGNER APPLICATION Please complete the following 2-page Designer Application and Designer Illustration Form accurately and completely. A non-refundable application-processing fee of $25 is due upon submission of this form. Forms received without the accompanying processing fee will not be reviewed for consideration. Company/School/Affiliation Describe in detail the method/technique used in the construction of your garment(s). Describe your Avant Garde Going Green inspiration DESIGNER AGREEMENT I acknowledge and understand all preceding event submission rules and guidelines for the Avant Garde Going Green Gowns Showcase. PAYMENT INFORMATION for the Avant Garde Going Green Gowns Showcase designer application-processing fee. DESIGN ILLUSTRATION FORM In addition to the Designer Application, all registrants must submit a preliminary FULL-COLOR sketch of the proposed design to be considered for inclusion in the Avant Garde Going Green Gowns Showcase. Use the space below to sketch your proposed design. This illustration form MUST accompany the Designer Application for consideration in the review process. FASHION WEEK SAN ANTONIO P.O. BOX , SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS COMPETITION CATEGORIES Winners in the listed categories will be announced and awarded during the Avant Garde Going Green Gowns Exhibition during FWSA (Please see schedule of events for specific date/event information. All submissions will be reviewed by a juried panel (knowledgeable committee) based on technical skill, professional design, theme/inspiration, construction quality, and creativity. 1. Best in Show 2. IF YOUR GARMENT SKETCH IS ACCEPTED: Designers will be notified no later than Tuesday, October 1st of your design s acceptance and inclusion in the Avant Garde Going Green Gowns Exhibition lineup.
