1 WASSCE / WAEC CLOTHING AND TEXTILES SYLLABUS Visit for WASSCE / WAEC syllabus on different subjects and more great stuff to help you ace the WASSCE in flying colours. 1. PREAMBLE The aim of the course in Clothing and Textiles at the Senior High School level is to train students to acquire knowledge and skills in clothing production and management, thus equipping students with employable skills to improve their quality of life and that of the society. 2. OBJECTIVES The examination syllabus is aimed at testing the basic knowledge and understanding of candidates in: 1. Career opportunities in Clothing and Textiles. 2. Basic scientific knowledge in Textiles e.g. fibres, origin and construction (fabrication), selection, fabric combinations, use and care of fabrics. 3. The significance of clothing, selection of appropriate clothing for all occasions and figure types. 4. The selection, use and maintenance of sewing equipment. 5. The clothing production skills e.g. pattern, freehand cutting and general processes in clothing construction. 6. The knowledge in designing and decorating family clothing and household articles. 7. The skills in the repair, renovation and remodelling of clothing and care of clothes. 8. The development of entrepreneurial skills and work ethics in Clothing and Textiles. 10. The development of techniques for promoting Clothing and Textiles products (modelling, exhibition, etc.). 3. SCHEME OF EXAMINATION There will be three (3) papers, Paper 1, Paper 2 and Paper 3 all of which must be taken. Paper 1: Will consist of sixty (60) objective questions, all of which must be answered in 1 hour for 60 marks. Paper 2: Will consist of six (6) structured essay type of questions and candidates will be required to answer any four of them for 60 marks. The questions will be drawn from the entire syllabus. Paper 3: Will have two (2) sections, a practical test and a course work. The practical test carried 100 marks and will last for 2½ hours. There will be thirty (30) minutes preparation time. It will be conducted by a visiting Examiner appointed by the West African Examinations Council.
2 The course work will carry twenty (20) marks. The article together with their patterns should be presented to the Visiting Examiner of the Practical Test for assessment. Articles should include the following:
3 Year 1: One of the following: simple blouse, shirt, shorts, tunic, flat article, slips and pants. Year 2: An article for self (self garment). Year 3: An article for home decoration. CONTENTS NOTES (1) Career Opportunities in Clothing and Textiles (i) Career types - Reasons for studying Clothing and Textiles - Career types e.g. modelling, teaching, dressmaking and tailoring, textiles chemist, textiles designer, etc. - Basic requirements for careers e.g. knowledge, academic qualification, etc. (i) Work ethics - Meaning - Components rules and regulations, attitudes, behaviours, integrity, self confidence, etc. - Importance and benefits of work ethics. (2) Fibre and Fabric - Meaning of fibre, yarn, fabric, etc. - Classification - Characteristics/properties - Identification - Combinations (blends, mixtures) - Fabrication/construction (weaves, crocheting, knitting) - Finishing treatments. - Concept - Functions - Classifications e.g. clothes, accessories and cosmetics. (3) Clothing (4) Wardrobe Planning - Concept - Wardrobe for family members e.g. babies, preschool children, teenagers, etc. - Factors to consider in wardrobe

Cosmetics and health.
