The law on retirement prohibits an employer from compulsorily retiring an employee unless it can be objectively justified. Moreover, an older workforce has a positive and valuable contribution to make within any organisation but without a set retirement age, managers need to have the necessary skills and training to handle retirement procedure. 10 Online Course Directory 11 Online Course Directory

Confidentiality of information is enforced on the need to know principle, which forms the cornerstone of information security in today s corporate world. The confidentiality bubble restricts information flows, with both positive and negative consequences. After completing this course, learners should be able to: understand what confidentiality is and why it is important; understand the four key requirements of the confidentiality model; understand their role in creating a confidential service. Customer Care Virtually everyone has had experiences of poor customer care, be it from unhelpful staff, undelivered promises, or something as simple as absence of an apology when experiencing a delay. Obviously there are examples of outstanding customer care, but unfortunately these can seem to be the exception rather than the rule. What frustrates customers is that many of these grievances could be easily avoided with thought, planning and training. This course is designed to show learners how they and their colleagues can make customers feel that their business is genuinely interested in them. 14 Online Course Directory 15 Online Course Directory

10 Business & Enterprise Division Business e-learning courses Data Protection in the Workplace Equality and Diversity in the Workplace The Data Protection Act 1998 came into force in March It sets rules for processing personal information and sensitive information and applies to paper records and those held electronically. Ask the question what is equality and diversity and you will get a variety of answers. There is much confusion; it is often obscured by myths and most people are wary of dealing with equality and diversity issues for fear that they may do or say something wrong. Most people just want to be treated fairly, with respect and dignity, and given an equal opportunity to make a success of their lives. This course is aimed at helping learners to be better placed to play their part in promoting equality and diversity. Display Screen Equipment and Workstation Health and Safety Fire Safety and Evacuation 25 + VAT Many millions of people now spend their working days sitting in front of display screens whilst operating computers. The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 which came into force in October 2006 requires staff to receive appropriate fire training; employers are now legally required by Fire Safety Regulations to provide information, instruction and training to employees about the fire precautions in the workplace. This online fire safety training course will help employers and individuals to fulfil this requirement by offering learners an overview of the key issues relating to a safe working environment. There are many good reasons to ensure workplaces are safe and healthy, high on the list being compliance with legislation and ensuring the wellbeing of employees, visitors and customers. Another compelling reason is that it makes good business sense. Although society as a whole is becoming more tolerant of a diversity of sexual orientations, homophobia is still ingrained in many institutions and communities. This continues to have an extremely negative affect on the lives of LGBT people. As a result, this course has been developed to help raise awareness of lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans issues, including the differences between sexual orientation and gender identity. It has been designed to challenge people s views, raise awareness of LGBT issues and outline how LGBT issues relate to a study and work environment. 12 Business & Enterprise Division Business e-learning courses Manual Handling Slips, Trips & Falls Back injury is the main reason for absence from the workplace and one third of all reported injuries that result in three days off work are caused by manual handling accidents. Employers are required by law to take reasonable steps to safeguard the health and safety of all employees, one of which is increasing awareness about the hazards, and what can be done to minimise risk. This online manual handling module provides learners with the knowledge they need in order to reduce the chance of incurring an injury whilst moving loads in their work environment. Slips, trips and falls are the most common cause of injuries in all workplaces in the UK. This module has been developed to provide people at any level, in any sector, with guidance that will help them prevent slips, trips and falls. On successful completion of this module, the learner will understand why it is important to prevent slips, trips and falls, what can cause them, what can be done to prevent them and about risk assessments and the Law. Personal Safety for Lone Workers 15 + VAT Time Management Everyday thousands of people will be exposed to situations in which they are left alone with customers or other members of the public during their working day. This e-learning course has been designed to help learners improve their time management skills. Covering a wide variety of effective time management techniques, the module provides learners with the knowledge and skills required to help them achieve more, in less time. The module also contains practical strategies which can be used to help overcome the most common challenges to effective time management, and help learners to improve their productivity and efficiency. On completion of the course, learners will be aware of: hazard identification; risk evaluation; communications; application of control measures; review of risk assessments. They will know risk assessments are important, know the definitions of hazards and risks, and know the seven key steps to risk assessment. Compressed air is a safe and reliable form of power, widely used in industry and business. Both employers and employees have a responsibility for safety in the workplace. Compressed air users must know how to work safely and understand the risks involved. This can help fulfil employers health and safety obligations and provides evidence that the individual has understood safe working practice and their responsibilities. On completion, learners will have an increased understanding of what can be done to keep sleeping babies as safe as possible. Over 4 million people in the UK work with children, young people and families. The focus of this course is the integrated working between these people, why it is important, who it can affect and the most effective way to achieve this through the use of three learning outcomes: the common assessment framework (CAF), information sharing and the role of the lead professional. This course is aimed at individuals who are either a manager or leader of staff who work with children, young people and families. Safer Working Practices Supervision and Appraisal in Early Years Settings All adults who come into contact with children in their work have a duty of care to safeguard and promote their welfare. The vast majority of adults working with children act professionally to provide a safe and supportive environment. However in this area of work, tensions and misunderstandings can occur; the answer is not to work in a bubble. We have learnt from many adults, they are inadequately informed about their responsibilities and, as a result, they may unintentionally avoid certain practices completely. This course aims to outline clearly what behaviours are and are not acceptable. Promotion at work is an exciting time but a new post with supervisory duties can often feel daunting. As a result, this course provides advice and guidance that will help you make a smooth and fulfilling transition to a supervisory role and help to ensure that you enjoy a positive professional working relationship with your work colleagues. The course addresses some of the fundamental skills that are needed in order to be an effective supervisor, including engaging and motivating staff, developing staff and releasing their potential through the supervisory process. This bite size course explains in some detail the Getting it Right For Every Child framework, which is the national approach in Scotland to supporting and working with children and young people. GIRFEC is relevant for everyone who works with children and young people as well as those who work with adults who look after children. GIRFEC seeks to encourage changes in culture, systems and practice across services for children, promote a child centred approach and engender a common understanding and shared language across all agencies. This is with the aim of putting children and their families at the heart of the decision making process, giving all children and young people the best possible start in life. One third of older people are classified as recurrent fallers, meaning a fall suffered by an older person may not be a one-off event. This in-depth course covers a range of topics that will ensure you can assess and identify when an older person may be at risk of a fall and methods to reduce this risk.
