10 What is sustainable investment in health care? Strategic fit : Must be sound within the healthcare context in which they function [be that national, regional or local], fit appropriately into the overall model of care, and address sector wide issues, such as inequalities of access human resource availability clinical viability and safety 10
11 What is sustainable investment in health care? Beneficial economic return on investment: Efficient healthcare delivery The range and level of services and facilities to be provided, reflects the needs and the demands of the population to be served; Service delivery models and supporting infrastructure solutions, reflect modern clinical practice and generate efficiency gains Human resources are adequately available and will be used to best effect to ensure a high quality, safe service; Investment costs are reasonable and operating costs reflect an efficient operation post project implementation Environmental impact of the investment is well managed to minimise any potential adverse effects (e.g. clinical waste disposal) and to maximise environmental benefits (e.g. 11 efficient energy);
