2 duane morris Women s Impact Network for Success Our Mission The Duane Morris Women s Impact Network for Success is devoted to the success of our women attorneys within the firm and in the industry. Through various programs, we exchange ideas, foster and expand business contacts and opportunities, and enhance attorney development to fully realize the talent, knowledge and potential of our women attorneys. More and more, the legal industry is embracing the notion that leadership, networking and client relationship building are not one-size-fits-all. Women just do things a little differently when it comes to business development. They are already very successful lawyers and our programs are designed to capitalize on their existing talents. 3 At Duane Morris, I m not just proud of our accomplishments and victories for our clients. I m just as proud of the culture and community of our firm. What we re doing with WINS has certainly garnered results and recognition. 4 Investing in the Success of our New Women Partners In 2012, WINS developed the Springboard to Success Springboard to Success program, a yearlong leadership and professional development program in a small-group setting for mid-level partners. The program provides group and individual mentoring by outside consultants and firm leadership and is designed to enhance business and marketing plan development, leadership and a broad set of quantitative, management, communications and partnering skills for future leaders of Duane Morris. Springboard to Success class members are also introduced to Project X-Factor, a joint WINS and Marketing and Business Development program in which class members leverage firm relationships and collective (and diverse) skills to create a strategic sell to a potential client, based on needs analysis and development of solutions. Springboard to Success gives you the opportunity to focus on growing relationships and self-marketing and reminds you how valuable that is to your practice and to the firm. 10 Standing Up for Women A team of Duane Morris attorneys and staff who help human trafficking survivors through Girls Educational & Mentoring Services (GEMS) accepted the seventh annual Duane Morris Pro Bono Award. GEMS provides a range of services to address the needs of young women who have experienced commercial sexual exploitation and domestic trafficking. Numerous Duane Morris volunteers have represented survivors in motions to vacate criminal convictions resulting from their trafficking. Singled out for recognition were Duane Morris attorneys Rosa Ertze and Nicole Woolard, of the New York office, for their work with a client who was trafficked and forced into prostitution at a very young age, impregnated by her trafficker and made to abandon her daughter in Mexico when the baby was just a few months old. After escaping her traffickers in New York, the client spent years searching for her daughter unsuccessfully. Rosa, Nicole and the team were able to locate her daughter, then 15 years old and, in collaboration with Mexican authorities, rescue her from the same traffickers who had trafficked her mother. Rosa, Nicole and the team were able to help our client gain legal custody of her daughter and successfully petition U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for Humanitarian Parole to allow the daughter to come to the U.S. with her mother. Dedicated to Equality Duane Morris of counsel Elaine Jacoby was honored with the 2014 Alice Paul Equality Award by the Alice Paul Institute of Mount Laurel, New Jersey. The award honors individuals who capture the spirit of Alice Stokes Paul and continue her mission of advancing women s equality. (Paul was a leader in the campaign for women s right to vote, authored the original proposed Equal Rights Amendment in 1923 and initiated gender equality principles in both the United Nations Charter and in the 1964 Civil Rights Act.) Elaine, who was inspired by the women s rights movement to become a lawyer, began practicing law in 1975 when there were few women partners in New Jersey law firms. She practices in the areas of employment law and civil litigation, and she has spent much of her career developing and implementing equal employment opportunity compliance programs designed to prevent workplace discrimination and harassment. 8 Duane Morris Women s Impact Network for Success
