4 2 Central MN Council on Aging What We Have To Offer You Central Minnesota Council on Aging serves area seniors, family caregivers, and senior service providers in three distinct ways: Directly fund projects to support senior services Guide communities in developing new programs and services in response to area demands Serve as an information source for seniors and their family caregivers through the Senior LinkAge Line Contacts for Senior Services Central Minnesota Council on Aging administers the Federal Title III Older Americans Act funds in our area, by determining needs and trends. Contracts are awarded to local community providers that includes comprehensive and coordinated system of care for older people and their caregivers. Those services receiving funds may include: Congregate Dining Home Delivered Meals Caregiver Supports In-home and supportive services to help older adults remain in their own homes Responding to Needs Through Program Development Central Minnesota Council on Aging collaborates with communities, counties, faith-based organizations, Regional Development Commissions, and health and social service providers, to meet the needs of our growing senior population. These partnerships guide new programs, increase service effectiveness, improve systems and serve as an information source. 12 10 You Have Medicare Choices... Learn What They Are The annual statewide Health Care Choices for Minnesotans on Medicare (HCC) guide is published by the Minnesota Board on Aging (MBA). HCC offers free, comprehensive, objective information about options for Minnesota Medicare beneficiaries of all ages. The 2010 edition includes all of the Minnesota Part D and Medicare Advantage plan options. New this year is the inclusion of all Medicare Advantage Special Need Plans and an expanded section about long-term care options including the Minnesota Long-term Care Partnership. The Board on Aging offers free, comprehensive, objective information and personalized assistance and counseling in all 87 counties of Minnesota through the Senior LinkAge Line ( ). 13 11 ALVA Leadership development for the rest of your life ALVA is a leadership development program designed for 50+ adults who want to learn how to address the challenges and opportunities of leadership in later life and how to apply their skills to building vital communities. Classes are being offered this fall at six Minnesota campuses from October through May 2011, and the Council on Aging is currently partnering with the St. Cloud Technical College, Whitney Senior Center, and the Vital Aging Network, to implement this civic leadership project. Limited scholarships are available. We are also currently seeking organizations that are interested in assisting with the distribution of marketing materials, to recruit ALVA participants and organizations, willing to assist an ALVA participant who pursues a civic engagement project related to your organization s mission, and to help with scholarship assistance.
