As result of this cyber intrusion, infor1ntion ws stolen from bout 21.5 million bckground investigtion pplicnts nd non-pplicnts, primrily spouses or co-hbitnts of pplicnts. This informtion included personlly identifible infonntion (PII), like nmes nd Socil Security numbers, s \.veil s findings from intervie\vs conducted by bckground investigtors. Approximtely 5.6 million records included fingerprints. Becuse this personl informtion ws co1npromised, ech of us should think bout the best \vys to protect ourselves nd our info11ntion in this ne\v environment. Minimizing the i1npct of this theft on DoD personnel is top priority, so the Government contrcted with ID Experts to offer suite of identity theft nd credit monitoring services to those \.vho were ffected. These optionl services include three yers of coverge, ending on December 31, free-of-chrge, for impcted individuls nd their minor dependent children. Plese note, dependent children re lso eligible for the three yers of coverge if they \Vere younger thn 18 yers of ge s of July I encourge you to consider enrolling in these voluntry protective services. 4 Postmster Der Collegues: The U.S. Office of Personnel Mngement hs lunched n online verifiction center to help individuls impcted by the mlicious cyber intrusion crried out ginst the Federl Government which resulted in the theft of bckground investigtion records. The online verifiction center is vilble to help individuls who believe their dt my hve been tken, but hve not received notifiction letter. The center will lso ssist those who hve received letter informing them tht they were impcted by the bckground investigtion intrusion, but hve lost their PIN code. Individuls will be ble to ccess the verifiction website vi link t 24-hours dy, 7 dys week. The site will be vilble through the end of December, If individuls cnnot get their questions nswered online, they my request ssistnce by clling nd speking with n gent. The cll center will be open from 9.m. to 9 p.m. Estern Time, Mondy through Fridy. The notifiction process is still continuing nd becuse of the lrge volume of letters, some impcted individuls my not hve received their letters. We re encourging those who believe their dt my hve been tken, but hve not been notified, to wit until mid-december before contcting the verifiction center.
