Photos account for 93% of the most engaging posts, and get 53% more likes, 104% more comments and 84% more clickthroughs on links than text-based posts. Posts below 250 characters can get you 60% more engagement, while cutting to less than 80 characters will get you 66% more engagement. Questions generate 100% more comments statement posts, and questions with quick or limited answers tend to get more comments. 35% of fans liked a page specifically to compete in contests, and contest-related words like winner, win, entry, contest, enter, and promotion were all more likely to engage people. 12 Rules of the Road Guidelines for Engagement Create your social media profile. Use your name, not something that could be perceived as spam. Be judicious. Always pause and think before posting, because anything you publish is public and has a long lifespan. Listen. Immerse yourself to better understand the ecosystem, culture, potential uses and possible pitfalls. Be transparent. Be clear about your role with and comply with company privacy, confidentiality & legal guidelines. Be real. Avoid jargon; be conversational. Be appropriate. Be sure all of your content is consistent with your work and aligned with your company policies, values and standards. To Respond or Not. Don t engage in conversations that are contentious. Never publish something that makes you even the slightest bit uncomfortable. 12
