5 Ethernet VPN Prduct Definitin A Virtual Private Netwrk (VPN) service is a private netwrk that shares a cmmn platfrm with ther users, this service that has been ppular ver the past few years. In parallel, there has been an increasing interest in scalable, end-t-end Ethernet services. Several develpments in the area f VPNs have helped t enable Ethernet-based VPNs. Chief amng these are tw MPLS technlgies; Virtual Leased Line (VLL) and Virtual Private LAN Service (VPLS) Virtual Leased Line (VLL), als knwn as Ethernet Pint-t-pint VPN service, emulates the behavir f a leased line between tw pints. 7 IP VPN Prduct Definitin An IP VPN (Virtual Private Netwrk) service is a private netwrk (cannt be seen by users utside the VPN service) that shares a cmmn netwrk with ther users fr IP traffic nly. Anther name fr an IP VPN is a Virtual Private Ruted Netwrk (VPRN). IP VPN emulates the behavir f a ruter between multiple pints. Several elements cmbine fr an IP VPN service: 1. FPL FiberNet has established intercnnectin arrangements in Miami (NAP) and diverse lcatins in Flrida, allwing us t survive disaster scenaris affecting any particular facility. Additinally, ur Dedicated Internet Access service includes dynamic selectin f ptimal rutes amng these hub sites. This allws FPL FiberNet t ffer a higher level f perfrmance and reliability when cmpared t any single lcatin service prvider. 12 VLAN Service The standard Ethernet VPN prvides service t a custmer thrugh a physical prt per lcatin. As a value added feature, multiple services can be delivered t a custmer at a single lcatin thrugh the same physical prt. This feature, in accrdance with IEEE 802.1q, requires that services be tagged at the lcatin with different VLAN tags s that traffic can be separated by the custmer and FPL FiberNet. As a value added feature, ne additinal 100Mbps r 1000Mbps LAG prt can be added as a shadw prt. In rder t implement LAG prts, the prts need t be the same type and, usually, terminate at the same custmer equipment. PE Lcal netwrk prviding Access frm FN t Custmer NID CE : NID Custmer Equipment Nte: Available nly with prtectin feature r if cmmn equipment is present Bursting The standard Ethernet VPN and IP VPN slutins prvide the highest quality f service up t the Cmmitted Infrmatin Rate (CIR), with the Peak Infrmatin Rate (PIR) set equal t CIR (i.e. CIR = PIR). As a value added feature, PIR can be set at maximum prt speed (100 r 1000Mbps) r fr multiple LAG prt grups, at the maximum LAG grup speed. Fr DIA, in additin t the abve, PIR can be set frm Mbps in increments f 100Mbps r bursting can be charged per usage.(available Q3 2008) Bursting bandwidth is available at best-effrt quality. Since bursting is best-effrt, verall service quality may degrade during perids f bursting if critical packets are nt able t meet required SLAs (i.e. delay, jitter, lss packets, etc.). T mitigate this effect, custmers can priritize their traffic using Quality f Service feature described n next page. 12

13 Multicasting The standard Ethernet VPN and IP VPN services have limited (1 Mbps) multicasting bandwidth. As a value added feature, multicasting can be supprted. This feature will enable custmers t multicast withut limitatins (up t 2 Gbps). Nte: This feature is nly applicable t Pint-t-Multipint and Multipint-t-multipint VPNs Inter-Metr The standard Ethernet VPN and IP VPN services are designed fr traffic within any FPL FiberNet Metr.
