2 Basics of EMJDM activity Part of Erasmus + programme / Key Action1 (Learning Mobility for Individuals) EMJMD = fully integrated int l Master s progr. delivered by consortium of HEI s and leading to awarding of joint, double or multiple degree Available for E+ programme countries (EU members + Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Macedonia, Turkey) + justified partner countries can be involved EC aims to fund 350 EMJMDs during E+ period Not for development of joint masters! Progr. must be ready to run at application stage Funding for 3 consecutive intakes + preparatory year

3 EMJMD Call 2016 Deadline: February 18, 2016 (at 12:00 CET) Budget: ~ 57 M + ~ 19 M for "targeted regions" Estimated nr. of projects to be funded: ~27 EMJMDs 15 scholarships per intake (around 45 per Grant Agreement) + 4 for targeted regions (around 12 per Grant Agreement) + management grant-> indicative total grant for EMJMD ~ 3 M Timeline: Accreditation check of Masters -> June 2016 Award Decision -> July 2016 Start of projects -> August -October 2016 Preparatory year is no longer mandatory Increased and guaranteed number of scholarships (15 per intake + possibility for additional scholarships for targeted regions)

4 EMJDM requirements 1/2 Duration months( ECTS credits) + optional preparatory year Minimum consortium: 3 HEIs as partners (including the coordinator) from at least 3 Programme Countries Mandatory study period in at least 2 different Programme Countries (no virtual mobility) Awarding fully recognised and accredited joint or multiple Master degrees; joint degrees are strongly encouraged No restrictions in disciplines Key words: Attractiveness, Excellence, Employability Bridging academic and job-market needs (transdisciplinary approach)

5 EMJDM requirements 2/2 Cooperation with HEIs and other eligible organisations from Partner Countries is possible BUT must be clearly justified At least 4 invited scholars / guest lecturers per intake to contribute to the teaching/ research activities Sustainability after EU funding must be confirmed and explained! Contribution to consortium management costs (incl. costs for invited scholars and guest lecturers) = EUR per intake of the EMJMD (3x) Student grants: per month for living or travel grant participation costs per year

6 EMJDM award criteria Relevance of the project (up to 40 points): Structure and description of the progr., award degree & accreditation, needs analysis, employability, attractiveness & awareness of other programmes, instrumental mobility, complementarity of expertise Quality of the Project Design and Implementation (20 points) Quality of the Team & Cooperation Arrangements (20 points) Impact & Dissemination(20 points) Only proposals scoring at least 75% (30 points) from the relevance (step 1) will go through the step 2 of the selection

7 JYU / national framework for joint degree programmes 1/2 Critical things / national restrictions regarding Joint Master Degrees: Extent of programme should be 120 ECTS Tuition fees! According to the new legislation, Finnish universities cannot charge tuition fees from national or EU students in degree progr s Joint degree in the sense of awarding one single joint degree certificate / diploma is not necessarily recognized in Finland! Universities Act & Decree on Masters Degrees must be followed

8 JYU / national framework for joint degree programmes 2/2 Rectors decision on int l joint degree programmes If the EMJMD requires changes in the education responsibility of JYU, the faculty in question has to propose this to the University Board. JYU degree requirements have to be followed Important to involve faculty-level head of academic affairs for the planning of EMJMD s! a plan on how the EMJMD s implementation costs will be covered when external funding ends faculty will decide, if adjustments are needed to the general student admission criteria of JYU JYU recommends double degrees over joint degrees, because the official status of joint degrees is unestablished

9 Current national instructions on joint degrees (OPH 12/2015) Suomalaisen korkeakoulujärjestelmän lähtökohtana tutkintojen osalta on se, että korkeakoulututkinto on aina jonkun korkeakoulun myöntämä. Kansainvälisenäkin yhteistyönä toteutettavan koulutuksen tulee kuulua korkeakoulun koulutusvastuun piiriin. Mikäli suomalainen korkeakoulu antaa vieraskielisestä tutkinnosta yhteisen vieraskielisen tutkintotodistuksen muiden yhteistutkinto-ohjelmaan osallistuvien korkeakoulujen kanssa, tulee sen antaa lisäksi samansisältöinen suomen- tai ruotsinkielinen tutkintotodistus korkeakoulun opetus- ja tutkintokielen mukaisesti.
