The list of research projects may be updated until the day prior to the assessment of qualifications whenever more scholarships become available. Updates shall be published on the University' website (English) and on the website (Italian). Entry Requirements 1) All Degrees issued by Italian universities or second cycle/master's Degree. 2) International academic qualifications recognised as eligible for admission to PhD studies. Please see art. 3 of the Call. 3) Candidates who will complete their degree programme after the publication of the Call, by 31 October 2014 (candidates must notify the PhD Office of the date in which they will obtain their qualification by the aforementioned deadline by arearicerca_dottorati@unito.it using attachment 2). Candidates are required to choose a title from those offered by the PhD Programme and write their project proposal on that topic. 2 of the Call) Final grade of undergraduate and/or post graduate qualifications and list of examinations taken Research project. Candidates are required to choose a title from those offered by the PhD Programme and write their project proposal on that topic. Application fee: for each application submitted (2,00 Euro will be charged for each payment) Application fee deadline: 25th August 2014 (mandatory term) Candidates who do not pay the application fee within the deadline will be excluded from the competition. Candidates applying for "reserved positions are exempt from paying the application fee. Calendar of entrance examinations: The calendar with information on dates and venues of entrance examinations shall be published on the websites: (English) and (Italian) starting from 28th July Assessment criteria (for non-reserved maximum score 100 points positions) Assessment of qualifications: maximum score 50 points Final grade of first and second cycle degrees maximum score 12 points and list of examinations taken maximum score 8 points maximum score 7 points maximum score 3 points Research project. Candidates are required to choose a title from those offered by the PhD Programme and write the project proposal on that topic Minimum threshold for admission Oral interview Minimum threshold for passing the interview maximum score 20 points 30 points Maximum score: 50 points 30 points Further information on examinations: Knowledge of a foreign language (English/French) will be assessed during the interview.

3 When applying candidates are required to submit one single file including the following: a) Abstract of thesis (max 2000 characters) b) Research Project (max 4500 characters, bibliography excluded). Candidates are required to choose a research project from those offered by the PhD Program and write their project proposal on that topic. The Research project should be structured as follows: - Title of Research Project in Italian and English (max 500 characters) - Abstract of research project (max 500 characters in Italian + max 500 characters in English, including spaces) in Italian and English. This should be a short summary of the research project. - Introduction and purpose of research project (max characters). The purpose of the research and research question on which the project is based and the objectives of the research. The research topic should be analysed in its context stating the principal perspectives of investigation. The analysis of scholar literature will need to pinpoint the most relevant reference and will highlight the innovation and relevance of the project. - Research design (max characters). Please describe the empirical context, project procedures and development, how data is collected and processed, time required for each phase of the research. Whenever possible a list of resources (technical and other skills) required for the research should be listed. The respect of code of ethics should be mentioned whenever applicable. - Results (max 500 characters, including spaces). Describe here the results expected. These should be relevant to the research question and the research purpose. - Conclusions (max 500 characters, including spaces). Explain why your study may be relevant from a technical and/or practical perspective. The limits of the research project should be listed as well, e.g. due to lack time

4 and resources or phase of research. - Bibliography: from 10 to 20 references. Positions offered by the PhD Programme: 5 positions with scholarship of which: - 4 are funded by the University; - 1 is funded by Compagnia di San Paolo 1 position without scholarship reserved to students with international qualifications All additional scholarships and apprenticeship contracts, pursuant to art. 19 Paragraph 1) letter b) of Law no. 240/2010 and Art. 50 of Legislative Decree no. 276/2003, which may become available after the publication of this Call shall be announced on the University websites (English) and (Italian).
