3 Building on previous experiences there is no European consensus for a single Doctoral programme model, even more so for any kind of European Joint Doctorate The Erasmus Mundus model is based on the previous experiences of the Erasmus Mundus Phase 1 (Masters) and of the Marie Curie Actions (ITN) While the EC has long-standing experience of awarding financial support to young researchers (ITN), EMJDs are complementary to these schemes in terms of the focus they bring to the doctoral programmes themselves and their institutional dimension.

5 Where is SINCHEM now? SINCHEM is one of the 43 excellence joint doctorates funded in the five years An high investment of the EU on a limited number of doctoral programmes based on the quality model previously described, which will be monitored during the 5 editions and which will have to prove to be sustainable afterwards.

6 Key element 1: CONSORTIA Going beyond the traditional bilateral cooperation focused on the joint supervision of a doctoral candidate (co-tutele), to focus on the creation of integrated consortia sharing mission, goals and organisational rules. At least 3 HEI in Europe located in 3 different Countries Third Country Institutions are eligible. It is strongly recommended the involvement of associates (HEIs, Laboratories, Enterprises, Public Authorities) to contribute to the realisation of activities (scientific advice, applied reserach, evaluation, promotion, susatainability etc.)

10 Contracts and Funds Each consortia is selected for 5 consecutive editions Framework Partnership Agreement: contract between EACEA and the Coordinator (5 editions) with general principles and duration Specific Partnership Agreement: annualy signed by EACEA and the coordinator.
