1 Meet Our Presenters and Speakers for the 2015 Conference: KEY NOTE SPEAKER, Thursday, November, 5, 2015 Cynthia Galemore, MSEd, BSN, RN, NCSN Cynthia (Cindy) began her career in school nursing in Olathe, Kansas fall of 1991 serving at one of the district s elementary schools. In January of 1995, she assumed the role of Health Coordinator, later changed to Director of Health Services. Olathe Public Schools is the second largest district in Kansas. Cindy has served on the district s crisis preparedness team since 1995 and presented on the topic at the state level. Additionally, Cindy is the editor for the NASN School Nurse, the clinical resource journal of NASN and the Professional Standard Chair for the Kansas School Nurse Organization. She also serves as the Epinephrine Resource School Nurse for the state of Kansas. Dave McCormick, BS Dave McCormick is the Director of the Indiana Immunization Division at the Indiana State Department of Health. In that role, Dave leads a team of public health professionals committed to eliminating vaccine preventable diseases by working with approximately 900 healthcare providers to deliver over $80,000,000 of publicly funded vaccine. Dave has worked in public health for the past 26 years. Prior to joining the Immunization Program in January of 2012, Dave spent five years working on lead and healthy homes issues at the state level, including lead poisoning prevention, radon, lead certification, enforcement and remediation through grants from CDC, EPA and HUD. Before going to state government, Dave held various positions in a local health department including environmental health specialist, Coordinator of Environmental Education, Environmental Health Training Officer and Lead Program Manager. In November 2009, Dave was appointed to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention s Advisory Committee on Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention.
2 Vijay Pathangi, BS (MHI) Vijay works at the Indiana State Department of Health and is the Registry Manager for CHIRP, Indiana s Immunization Registry. He is responsible for managing CHIRP, its database and the helpdesk team and ensuring proper functioning of the system and providing optimal support to providers and internal staff. Vijay has over 17 years of experience managing databases and registries. Tricia Stanley, DNP, RN, ANP-BC, FNP-BC Tricia has dual board certifications as both an ANP and FNP. She has 16 years in primary care practice, internal medicine and family practice settings. Tricia currently works as the primary healthcare provider and Nurse Practitioner at the Wellness for Life clinic in Crawfordsville, Indiana. The clinic services the city of Crawfordsville employees and the employees of all three Montgomery County school districts. Don Lyon, OD, MS Dr. Lyon is the Chief of Pediatrics/Binocular Vision Services for the Indiana University School of Optometry. He graduated with his O.D. degree from IU in 1999 and completed a residency in pediatric optometry and binocular vision in He was the Director of the School Vision Screening Program at IU from Dr. Lyon has lectured extensively, both to students and in continuing education programs, on pediatric optometry, amblyopia, vision screenings, and binocular vision disorders. Dr. Lyon is the local principal investigator for the Amblyopia Treatment Studies, which are being performed by the Pediatric Eye Disease Investigator Group (PEDIG). PEDIG is a national group of optometrists and ophthalmologists that perform clinical research on the treatment of amblyopia among other areas within pediatric eye care. Lorena Flaa, BSN, RN Lorena is the Care Coordinator for the Center for Youth and Adults with Conditions of Childhood, Riley Hospital. She works for the IU School of Medicine, Department of Pediatric Education. Lorena has over 25 years of pediatric nursing experience in hospital, home health care and educational settings. She currently serves as care coordinator for youth with special health care needs by assisting them in the successful transition to adult life.
3 Jennifer Barber, BSN, RN Jennifer works for the IU School of Medicine, Department of Pediatric Education, at Riley Children s Hospital. She has over 10 years of pediatric nursing experience in the hospital and educational settings. Jennifer currently serves as a care coordinator for youth with special health care needs by assisting them with successful transition to adult life. Jolene Bracale, MSN, RN Jolene has been a registered nurse for the past 30 years. Her experience includes hospital nursing in general surgery, patient education, and critical care for ten years. She was a school nurse for 15 years, with 11 of those years as a school nursing supervisor. She is currently employed by the Indiana Department of Education as the Program Coordinator for Student Health Services and has been a state consultant for four years. Kelly Bauder, Attorney at Law Kelly is a Department of Education staff attorney and will be presenting the session on HIPAA/FERPA and Legal Issues in the School Setting with Jolene Bracale.
4 KEY NOTE SPEAKER, Friday, November, 6, 2015 Chad Priest, JD, MSN, RN Chad is Assistant Dean for Operations & Community Partnerships at the Indiana University School of Nursing and the Director of the Interdisciplinary Social Network Health Laboratory. He also serves as Adjunct Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine and Co- Director of the Disaster Medicine Fellowship at the Indiana University School of Medicine and is the Curriculum Director of the Disaster Health Certificate Program. His research and scholarship interests include healthcare crisis management and response, clinical disaster nursing, international disaster risk reduction, community health practice and healthcare and public health law and ethics. He is a frequent international speaker on issues related to healthcare emergency management and disaster nursing and medicine. Chad teaches in the undergraduate, masters and Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) programs at IUSON. Prior to joining the IU School of Nursing, Chad was Chief Executive Officer of the MESH Coalition, an innovative public- private partnership that enables healthcare providers to effectively respond to emergency events and remain viable through recovery. Chad formerly practiced as an attorney at the law firm of Faegre Baker Daniels practicing public health and healthcare law in the Indianapolis and Washington, D.C. offices. Chad served on active duty as an officer in the United States Air Force with the 89th Medical Group, Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland. Chris Curless, ATC, LAT Chris is an athletic trainer with Methodist Sports Medicine and contracted with the Indiana School for the Deaf. He has been practicing sports medicine since 2007 and with the Indiana School for the Deaf since Chris completed his Bachelors of Athletic Training at Ball State University and is finishing his master s degree in Healthcare Administration at Grand Valley State University. He specializes in the evaluation and treatment of Deaf athletes and the general population, often in low budget and under staffed settings. Chris s research analyzes allied healthcare professional perceptions of athletic trainers.
5 Todd Arnold, MD Todd Arnold is a sports performance physician with 15 years of experience caring for athletes of all levels, from scholastic to professional. Dr. Arnold has cared for athletes with mild traumatic head injuries extensively during this period of time. He has also helped train more than 200 physicians to care for athletes with head injuries. Sue Bergstrom, BSN, RN For the past 25 years Sue has worked in the profession of school nursing. The last 15 years of that 25 she has been the nursing coordinator for the Lafayette School Corporation with a staff of 17. Sue is a member of the Indiana Association of School Nurses and has served as an area representative for the association. Lindsey Minchella, MSN, RN, NCSN, FNASN Lindsey has been a nurse since 1975, a public health nurse since 1977, and a school nurse since She received her Masters in Community Health Nursing in 1976 and has taken many graduate level courses since then. She was honored by being named a Fellow of the National Academy of School Nurses in Lindsey specializes in school nursing of children with special health care needs, having developed and coordinated a special needs school nurse program for approximately 25 years in a special education district centered in Lafayette, Indiana. Lindsey has taught a class about the subject at Purdue University in the past. Lindsey is retired from daily school nursing but advocates for child health and school nursing on a national level, writing, speaking, and serving as a board member of the National Association of School Nurses. Lindsey is IASN s current Director to NASN. Deb Robarge, BSN, RN, NCSN Deb received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Eau Claire. Before becoming a school nurse, she practiced one year as a hospital nurse and then five years as a public health nurse responsible for five rural schools. She has been a school nurse for over 25 years, the last 18 at the Indiana School for the Deaf. Deb has been a member of the Indiana Association of School Nurses for 15 years and served on the National Association of School Nurse Board of Directors as the Indiana delegate from summer 2009 to January Mary Nicholson, BS Mary Nicholson is the Fuel Up to Play 60 and NFL Lead for the American Dairy Association Indiana. She currently leads Indiana s efforts in promoting school health and wellness through the Fuel Up to Play 60 program. She has been involved in nutrition education efforts through both the National Dairy Council and ADAI since 2000.
6 Danielle Sovinski, MPH Danielle Sovinski currently works as the Health and Wellness Coordinator at the American Dairy Association Indiana. Her work focuses on promoting overall nutrition and the health benefits of dairy products to health professionals. She also connects with local health and wellness organizations to establish partnerships. Danielle earned her Master of Public Health from Indiana University in Kristen Nichols, PharmD, BCPS (AQ-ID) Following graduation from Butler University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in 2009, Kristen completed a PGY1 Pharmacy Residency at Clarian Health (Now IU Health) in Indianapolis. She went on to complete a PGY2 Pediatric Pharmacy Residency at Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health. Since that time Kristen has served as a pharmacy practice faculty member at Butler University, where she has taught a broad range of pediatric topics including cystic fibrosis, sickle cell disease, gastrointestinal disease, infectious diseases, developmental pharmacology, and general pediatrics to both pharmacy and PA students. She also co- coordinates a pediatric pharmacotherapy elective at Butler. Kristen holds an adjunct faculty appointment at IU School of Medicine and has provided pediatric pharmacy education in various forums to nurses, nursing students, nurse practitioners, nurse practitioner students, medical students, medical residents, and physicians over the past 4 years. In her clinical practice she provides pharmaceutical care for patients with infectious diseases at Riley Hospital for Children, where she also co- coordinates the Pediatric Antimicrobial Stewardship program. Kristen is a co- founder of the Indiana Coalition for Responsible Antibiotic Use with the goal of improving antibiotic use across the state of Indiana. Kay Nannet, MSN, RN, WHNP-BC, DCNP, AGPCNP-C Kay has been a Nurse Practitioner since 1992, and has worked in dermatology since 1998 in Crawfordsville, IN. Kay also worked part- time as a school nurse in the Crawfordsville Community School Corporation, and continues to help the school nurses with students problematic skin conditions. In May 2015, Kay completed an MSN as an Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner through IUPUI. Later that month, she joined the Montgomery County Free Clinic as their Nurse Practitioner.
