Do not touch the TFT LCD screen with your bare hand. Do not place any heavy objects on top of the device. Otherwise malfunctions or damage may result. Do not expose the remote control to direct sunlight. This may cause malfunctions or the batteries to leak. When cleaning the device, do not use any volatile substances, such as solvents, to avoid damaging the surface. Clean the device only using a soft, dry cloth. Keep the device in a clean, dry location where it is not exposed to direct sunlight. Disconnect the power plug from the socket when you do not use the device for an extended period of time. 18 5 Connecting the DVD player The DVD player, the television set and any other electric devices to be connected to the DVD player must be switched off and disconnected from the mains. Observe the colour coding when connecting audio and video cables. 5.1 Connecting to a television set Audio/video connectors Using the audio/video cables, connect the DVD player to the A/V inputs of the television set as shown in the illustration below. 17

5.2 Connecting to an amplifier Prior to connecting the DVD player to an external audio device, read the operating instructions for the respective device. Connect the DVD player to the A/V amplifier as shown in the illustration below. 18

5.3 Connecting to an external A/V source Using the audio/video cables, connect the DVD player to the A/V signal source (for example, DVD or video recorder) as shown in the illustration below. Then set the DVD/AV IN switch to AV IN. Note When external audio signals are received during DVD playback, this can lead to disturbing noise in the loudspeakers. If this is the case, disconnect the audio cable. 19

5.4 Connecting headphones Connect the headphones to the headphone jack on the right side of the device. The loudspeakers are automatically deactivated. 5.5 Power supply unit The DVD player is delivered with a power supply unit. Connect the power supply unit as described below: Connect the power supply cable to the DC 9.5V IN jack on the right side of the device as shown below. Connect the power plug to an earthed socket. The power supply indicator lamp lights up red. Note 1. Turn off the DVD player before you unplug the mains cable from the socket. 2. When the DVD player operates on mains power, the LCD screen lights up brighter than when it operates on battery power. 20

5.6 Car adapter Use the supplied car adapter to operate the DVD player in a vehicle. Connect the adapter cable as shown below to the mains terminal of the DVD player and the cigarette lighter of the vehicle. Note 1. The driver must not operate the device or look at the screen while driving. 2. Position the device in a way that ensures an uninhibited view. 3. Remove the rechargeable battery pack before connecting the device using the car adapter. 4. If possible, disconnect the car adapter cable while starting the vehicle. 21

6 Rechargeable battery pack A rechargeable lithium ion battery is included in the scope of delivery of your portable DVD player. This battery is connected on the rear side of the device. Fully charge the battery before you use the device for the first time. Normally it takes about five hours for the battery to be charged. When the rechargeable battery is fully charged, you can operate the device with it for about three hours. However, the actual operating time also depends on the disc you use. Fully charge the battery when it will not be used for an extended period of time. Notes on using rechargeable batteries: When using a new rechargeable battery, fully charge it prior to use. Use rechargeable batteries only in temperatures between 0 C and 40 C. Do not throw the battery into water or fire. Do not expose rechargeable batteries to high temperatures or direct sunlight. Ensure adequate air circulation around the device. Do not place the device on soft furniture, carpets or other materials while in operation, as this may restrict the air from properly circulating around the device. Do not short-circuit the contacts of a rechargeable battery. Do not disassemble the rechargeable battery. Remove the battery pack when it is fully charged. While the battery is being charged, the battery status indicator lamp lights up red; when the battery is fully charged, the lamp lights up green. Remove the rechargeable battery pack when it is not used. When the state of charge reaches a low level, the symbol is displayed on the LCD screen. About five minutes later the DVD player turns off automatically. Caution Do not touch the battery's terminals with any metal objects. This would cause the battery to go to standby mode. Connect the DVD player with the battery connected to a voltage supply source to exit the standby mode. 22

6.1 Connecting the rechargeable battery pack Connect the rechargeable battery pack as described below: 1. Place the DVD player with the bottom side up on a plain, clean surface. 2. Hold on to the device with one hand. Position the battery's plastic pins so that they are aligned with the matching notches on the DVD player, and push the battery inside the device until it audibly locks into place. 6.2 Charging the battery pack Charge the rechargeable battery as described below: 1. Connect the battery to the DVD player. 2. Connect the power supply unit that is supplied with the device to the DC 9.5V IN power jack on the right side of the device. 3. Connect the power plug to an earthed socket as shown in the illustration below. 23

6.3 Removing the rechargeable battery pack Fully charge the battery and remove it from the device when it will not be used for an extended period of time. Even a device that is turned off uses small amounts of electricity in standby mode which ultimately discharges the battery. Turn off the DVD player before you remove the rechargeable battery as described below: 1. Push the battery's locking mechanism forward with one hand and, using the other hand, pull out the battery as shown in the illustration below. 2. Store the battery in a suitable location when it will not be used for an extended period of time. Note Remove the rechargeable battery when you use the car adapter for power supply. 24
