Wellness 101: A Great Place to Start Effective engagement strategies set the foundation for participation into wellness programs. The key is to get people to first understand their health issues, the root causes of these concerns and what is available in preventive and natural healthcare to address them. Biometric screenings are a good beginning, but what are the tools and support you need to get healthy now? In this Wellness 101 presentation, you (your team) will be educated and empowered to
be the CEO of your/their own health and wellness. By becoming aware of the preventive strategies that exist in preventive, natural and integrative medicine, your team will learn what they need to know to become better consumers of health care and how they can ask the right questions and understand the options available to prevent, manage and reverse disease in order to optimize their health and well-being and to save money by avoiding unnecessary procedures and drugs. This is an empowering educational opportunity for HR and the general workforce to better understand their options. In this session you will learn: What biochemical individuality means and how each person is unique How prevention is the key to better health and the options available to identify key markers before concerns become expensive and debilitating health conditions How the root cause can be addressed through better lifestyle choices How to start with the least invasive, most cost-effective strategy first How to empower the individual to make better health care choices with the least amount of cost, side-effects and down time 2. Sweat Pants to a Suit ~ Approaching the Corporate Market Sweat pants to a suit playing with the big boys. As you transition from one to one client interaction to working in the corporate market, many aspects are approached differently. Going from a casual setting to a more formal workplace, understanding how to navigate the corporate market will ensure a smooth transition. 3 Which areas can you work in 4. How to Develop a Program Design for a Corporate Nutrition Program Developing a program for an entire company varies greatly from a program designing for one person. Where do you start, how do you begin? What do will you have to work with? Many variables come into play when structuring a corporate program. These and the below topics will be addressed in this session: Identifying needs Scaling - small biz vs. large scale company De-conditioned population vs. fit employees Diverse cultures Education hands on, lectures, guest speakers, newsletters, webinars Creativity, thinking outside the box Tricks and tools Onsite vs. offsite programs Navigating 3 rd party vendors/providers (corporate wellness companies, suppliers, additional consultants) Evaluations assessments, biometric screenings, baseline 5. Making a Case for Onsite Corporate Fitness & Nutrition: Gaining Support & Reporting to Management Once you re in the door, creating a fitness/nutrition program and getting the support of upper management to implement it are two different things. Often times, the programs you wish to incorporate need extra convincing, presenting and proving success. These companies are now looking to bring in fitness and nutrition professionals to help take their programs and employees to the next level. This session will share a case study on doing just that. You will learn from conception to implementation, an 8 week fitness and nutrition case study with Chipotle. You will learn: How Chipotle was approached
What strategies were used to understand Chipotle s culture Collaboration on program development How, what and where the program was executed Communication during program development Chipotle findings and reports of the 8 week program 7. BeanStrong The evolution of a pilot program created to address the health issues in our employee population related to obesity When people think of L.L.Bean employees, they often visualize the active, athletic individuals they see in our catalogs. Unfortunately, not all of our employees fit those profiles. This presentation will address the health risks that have been identified in our organization and what we have done to address these risks. 8. LinkedIn & Tesla Motors Approach to Fitness, Wellbeing and Nutrition and Its Connection to Corporate America s Bottom Line The costs of stress that is directly correlated with employee s overall wellness hits company s bottom line much more than employers like to admit, or even have knowledge of. A study shows that employers pay a whopping 200 to 300 percent more when employees for example call in sick and go AWOL than on the more likely expense of health care expenditures, according to HBS Working Knowledge. This is not a small expense by any means. To view employee wellness and corporate productivity expectancies to increase profit margins mutually exclusive is magnanimously detrimental to any company s financial wellbeing. It can no longer be ignored that American employees are constantly stressed and unhealthy and therefore produces physiological health issues such as chronic illnesses. Incorporating mind-body and stress management programs as well as fitness & nutrition into your wellness program for employees can no longer be an option for any company, it must be viewed as a necessity to keep employees happily productive and healthy which in turn is positively reflected on the company s financial statement. In this session you will learn: Studies that reflect how interrelated stress, nutrition and fitness and the company s financial health really are A case study of wellbeing program in place that have shown significant change in productivity and company cash outflows How mindfulness programs that use meditation as their primary tool are a low budget option in wellness programs How to justify and succeed in implementing a nutrition and fitness program in your budget 9. Health/Fitness Consumer Technology ~ The Era of Wearable Devices Recent research has shown possible links between wearable technology and boots in employees work, productivity and job satisfaction. Have wearable technologies become an employer s dream to reboot their wellness program into a more fun, personalized, effective and hip
employee benefit? Taking an active role in our health is a choice we make every step, every bite, every waking and now every sleeping hour of the day. This session will include one employers perspective into creating an employee-driven, feel good program that promotes healthy competition within the workplace through wearable technologies. This session will explore: Wearable devices in the current marketplace (activity trackers, blood pressure devices, heart monitors and devices that measure glucose and calories burned) Promising results for voluntary fitness programs that incorporate wearable technology How to structure a program that includes wearable technology and the qualifications an employer must consider How to maximize engagement and tie-in employee incentives Employee communication and transparency Analytics and measurement tools Social Media and mobile technology integration 10. Engaging Employees in Healthy Eating Using Fun Cooking Challenges Statistics from the Center for Disease Control reveal that half of all adults have 1 or more chronic health conditions. This presentation will raise awareness of the costs associated with decreased productivity in the workplace and explain solution driven initiatives which can prevent the onset of diseases and assist those struggling with health issues. The lecture will share information regarding how nutrition education can support an employee s health. Additionally, we will show how having healthy individuals in the workplace can lead to effective team collaborations and increase the overall productivity of the organization. Our discussion will offer preventative methods of health that can decrease the amount of employees with chronic conditions and ultimately lower the costs of medical expenses for the employer. This session will address: Promoting employee productivity and wellness through nutrition and cooking education Increasing ROI through reducing chronic health risks Offering the knowledge to have the ability to make educated decisions based on personal needs and predispositions How to utilize current health care offerings, including how to prevent, manage and reverse chronic health conditions Discuss medical costs linking to chronic health conditions overall and in decreased productivity 11. Creating a Healthier Workplace Break Room Experience Companies across the country are looking how to best implement a health and wellness program. However, when it comes to on-site food and beverage options, vending machines are just not giving employees the variety, and fresh food options that they need. Healthy break rooms can be used to replace those old vending machines and give employees a way to develop healthier eating habits by having a variety of fresh and healthy foods available to them steps
away from their desk. The presentation would work to educate companies and their executives to look at their food service solutions and help directly influence wellness programs to match their corporate wellness initiatives through their offerings to employees. People need to have the option to make the right choice, but if you don t have the variety of fresh food available to them then you are limiting the success of a wellness program. In this session attendees will gain: A basic understanding of the healthy break room concept and why companies like Nike, Allstate Insurance, Amazon, AT&T and many other companies are changing their vending/break room experience to a healthy one The benefits of healthy break rooms in support of Health & Wellness Programs How to implement a successful results-oriented Health & Wellness Program through rewards employees for Choosing Right Next steps to getting involved and joining the revolution of thousands of companies across the country in bringing a happier, healthier, more productive break room experience For more information contact us at info@wellnessassociation.com or
