4 1 Introduction 1.1 System Manager (software) What is it and what does it do? The following functional block diagram represents a typical implementation of a Voice Connect autoattendant and voic system. Telephony Interface Card Voice Connector II Server Sound Files System Manager SQL Database The Telephony Interface Card connects the autoattendant and voic system to the telephone system. The SQL Database contains system parameters and other data including the names and locations of sound files (autoattendant greetings and voic recordings). The Voice Connector II Server communicates with the Telephony Interface Card and the SQL Database, and reads and writes sound files. It is the core software application that controls the autoattendant and voic system. The System Manager communicates with the SQL Database. It edits all the system parameters, which the Voice Connector II Server uses to control the autoattendant and voic system. NOTES In a small, simple implementation all of the components are in the Voice Connector II PC. The Telephony Interface Card and the Voice Connector II Server MUST be together in the Voice Connector II PC. The System Manager and the Database can each be in separate PCs. 5 1.2 System Administrator (person) As stated in the previous sub-section, the System Manager software application edits system parameters. We used to call it the Editor, but decided to change its name to System Manager, because, by editing system parameters, it manages the autoattendant and voic system. Unfortunately, the name System Manager is frequently used to refer to a person who manages (or administers) a system. To avoid confusion, this document and the System Manager User Reference Guide refer to the person who uses the System Manager software application, to (manage or) administer the autoattendant and voic system, as the System Administrator. 1.3 Voice Connector II Server (software) The Voice Connector II (VCII) Server is the core software application that provides the autoattendant and voic functions. 1.4 Remote Installation The System Manager can be on a different computer to the VCII Server, as stated in the notes at the end of Section 1.1 (Page 4). This documents describes how to install the System Manager on any computer that is linked to the VCII Server through a network. 1.5 Dongle Before you install the System Manager you must attach the dongle to the computer. This may attach to the parallel printer port (if your computer has one) or a USB port. Parallel USB Issue July 2008 Page 5 of 16

6 2 Before you install Please read the following before you start the installation. 2.1 Microsoft Office 2000 Service Packs (1) System Manager uses Microsoft Access 2000 databases and requires either of the following. Microsoft Access 2000 Microsoft Access 2000 Runtime (2) If you have one of the following already installed Microsoft Office 2000 including Microsoft Access 2000 Microsoft Access 2000 Microsoft Access 2000 Runtime make sure that it is updated to at least the following before you run the System Manager installer. Microsoft Office 2000 Service Release 1 (SR-1) NOTE This update is included with the System Manager installer. (3) If you do NOT have either Microsoft Access 2000 or Microsoft Access 2000 Runtime installed, you must install the following. Microsoft Access 2000 Runtime (SR-1) (4) You must then install the following. Microsoft Office 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP-3) This is the latest Service Pack for Microsoft Office It includes Service Pack 2 and additional updates. (It does NOT include Service Release 1.) If Service Pack 3 has already been applied to any Microsoft Office applications, you can still apply it again, to update any Microsoft Office applications to which it has not been applied. (5) The following Microsoft Office 2000 updates Microsoft Office 2000 Service Release 1 (SR-1) Microsoft Office 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP-3) update the following: (a) Any version of Microsoft Office 2000; (b) Any component application, such as Microsoft FrontPage 2000; (c) Microsoft Access 2000 Runtime. 7 3 Installation Procedure Do the following procedure. (1) If your normal logon does NOT allow you to install software, log on to the computer as an Administrator, or with administrative access or with sufficient access to install software. (2) Insert the installation CD into the CD/DVD drive, or access the directory that contains the installation software. (3) The System Manager is designed to run under Microsoft Access 2000 Runtime. NOTE If you have a full copy of Microsoft Access 2000 installed on your computer, you can omit this step and run System Manager under it. However, you MUST edit the installed System Manager shortcut, in Step (5), to run the full copy of Microsoft Access 2000 as Microsoft Access 2000 Runtime. WARNING We ONLY support System Manager under Microsoft Access (a) Install Microsoft Access 2000 Runtime. (i) Run the Microsoft Access 2000 Runtime installer, which first briefly displays the following view. Issue July 2008 Page 7 of 16

8 It then displays the following menu. Click the Customize button. (ii) The Microsoft Access 2000 Runtime installer displays the following view. Issue July 2008 Page 8 of 16

9 (iii) Change the location to the following path and click the OK button. C:\Program Files\ART2000 (iv) The Microsoft Access 2000 Runtime installer displays the following menu again. Check that it now displays the folder C:\Program Files\ART2000 against the Install Now button and then click the Install Now button. Issue July 2008 Page 9 of 16

10 (v) The Microsoft Access 2000 Runtime installer installs Microsoft Access 2000 Runtime. (vi) The Microsoft Access 2000 Runtime installer then displays the following prompt. Click the OK button. (b) Apply Microsoft Office 2000 Service Pack 3, to update the installation of Microsoft Access 2000 Runtime SR1. NOTE Microsoft Office 2000 Service Pack 3 includes Service Pack 2 and can always be run, even if it has already been applied. For example, if the computer has Microsoft Office 2000 installed on it and this has already been updated to Service Pack 3, you can still apply Microsoft Office 2000 Service Pack 3, to update Microsoft Access 2000 Runtime SR1. DO NOT run Microsoft Office 2000 Service Pack 2. It can fail. (i) Run Microsoft Office 2000 Service Pack 3. It displays the following prompt. Click the Yes button. Issue July 2008 Page 10 of 16

11 (ii) The Microsoft Office 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP-3) then displays the following prompt. Click the Yes button. (iii) It then updates Microsoft Access 2000 Runtime. (iv) If you have Microsoft Office 2000 Service Release 1 (SR-1) installed but not updated to Service Pack 3 (SP-3), Microsoft Office 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP-3) may display a prompt similar to the following for the Microsoft Office 2000 CD. 12 It then updates Microsoft Office (v) When the Microsoft Office 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP-3) update is complete, it displays either of the following prompts. (A) If it displays the following prompt, click the OK button. (B) If it displays the following prompt, click the Yes button. (4) Run the System Manager installer. (5) If necessary, edit the installed System Manager shortcut, as follows. Full copy of Access 2000 If you have a full copy of Microsoft Access 2000 installed on your computer, you MUST edit the System Manager shortcut to run the full copy of Microsoft Access 2000 as Runtime. Add /RUNTIME after the path as shown below. C:\VCONNECT\REPORTS\VCE2000.mde /RUNTIME Access XP, 2003 or 2007 If you have a full or runtime copy of Access XP, 2003 or 2007 installed on your computer, you must edit the installed System Manager shortcut to force it to run under Microsoft Access 2000 Runtime. Replace the path C:\VCONNECT\REPORTS\VCE2000.mde with the following. Note the space between the quotes in the middle "C:\Program Files\ART2000\Office\MSACCESS.EXE" "C:\VCONNECT\REPORTS\VCE2000.mde" NOTE We ONLY support System Manager under Microsoft Access Issue July 2008 Page 12 of 16

13 (6) Start the System Manager. (7) The System Manager displays the Voic Selection window. It is within the VCE2000 window, which is the Microsoft Access Runtime window. Click the Edit button. Issue July 2008 Page 13 of 16

14 (8) The System Manager displays the following Voic Database Manager window. (9) Key in the following values Connection Description Dataserver SQL Server <Voic Server> <Voic Server> Voic SQL Server <Voic Server > Voic database name VoiceConnectData where <Voic Server> is the name of the computer that runs the VCII Server. 15 (10) Click the Add >> button. This adds the Connection Description i.e. VC2_TR to the list on the right. If you change any of the values, you must click the Update button. Then click the Exit button. Issue July 2008 Page 15 of 16
