1 BANKING AUTOMATION Selling Guide DIDO graf Introduction The concept behind the "DIDO" document dispensers manufactured by CTS electronics stems from the need to decentralize and make as widespread and economical as possible the production of documents, bank related or otherwise: check books, forms or loose documents, statements and journals, but also coupon or ticket stacks. CTS has developed a wide range of products, upgrading them over time and meeting disparate requirements arising in different markets, within and outside Europe. The DIDO graf can be considered the ultimate in the production of document booklets, given the convenience of making the sets starting from A4 sheets loaded in a common laser printer, whose graphic capabilities can be exploited to the fullest extent. Thanks to the two versions, Office and Self-Service, the DIDO graf is suitable both for behind-the-counter use and for integration in ATM terminals. The Self-Service version is fitted with an ejection and removal mechanism: the completed passbook or document is delivered to the user, but if it is not picked up within a given time lapse, the machine will withhold it and if necessary destroy it. The Office version, designed for use by bank personnel, is enclosed in a very practical metal cabinet, which can be opened on 4 sides (3 side doors + lid), allowing convenient access to all mechanisms which may require servicing, as well as to all feeding housing. Feeding pertains to printer toner (average duration about 10,000 A4 sheets), the paper to be inserted in the printer or in the additional trays, the pre-cut covers to be stacked in the rear tray, the metal staple cartridge and the roll of colored adhesive tape used for binding the passbooks, to be placed on the left side of the machine. 4 Functional Description The heart of the DIDO graf is the Hewlett-Packard Laserjet 4100 high speed (over 20 pages/minute), high resolution laser printer. Thanks to the capability of using a magnetic toner, an MICR code line can be printed on the documents, together with all other graphics or text customization elements, linked to the issuer and the user of the passbook. In case of OCR code line or if no code line is required, the printed can be used with standard toner. A dedicated sensor detects the presence of magnetic toner. The HP printer is provided with an integrated 500-sheet tray; a second and third HP-manufactured tray with 500-sheet capacity or a 1300-sheet CTS tray can be added, enhancing total capacity to 1000, 1500 or even 1800 sheets. The most common application of the DIDO graf, and the one where it adds the most value, is the production of high quality check books. Each A4 sheet yields 3, 4 or 5 checks. The software can elect to draw the sheets from the printer tray or from the add-on tray, thereby allowing to place inserts in the check books, using different preprinted sheets. Via software it is also possible to customize the various parts of the check book, printing in different ways the various sections of the sheets to be cut and bound. 5 The cutting mechanism must be field adjusted to allow the production of checks of pre-set height and any height adjustments for binding. A punching mechanism may punch a perforated line on the checks, at a distance variable from 12 to 70 mm from the left edge. The cover tray is located on the rear of the electromechanical module, and it can contain 400 or 900 pre-cut covers, depending on the version. The cut and perforated checks are stacked on the first cover, then the stack is closed by the second cover and slightly shaken to align the sheets both horizontally and vertically. At this point the stack is conveyed to the stapler, which uses two staples per passbook. The cartridge can contain up to 5,000 staples; a sensor provides a warning when the machine is about to run out of staples so personnel can replace the cartridge. Subsequently the binding mechanism is activated: it cuts a proper length of adhesive tape, then it folds it and presses it on both sides of the passbook with rubber rollers. The finished passbook is ready to be ejected, and collected by bank personnel. If the Self - service model is used, the ejection mechanism (not mounted on the Office model) can place any uncollected passbook in an underlying container, after a set time interval. An uncollected individual document is instead placed in a compartment positioned between module and printer (optional single sheet recovery mechanism ). The system may also elect to take the uncollected or defective passbook (problems with the toner, with the paper, etc.) and destroy it with an (optional) shredder positioned above the container - only for checkbooks with 10 to 20 checks. The container can contain about 10 whole passbooks or 6 shredded passbooks.
