2 Multimedia Courseware Design Proposal Name of Developer: Tracy Lloyd Date: _March 31, Overview Program Title: elearning Journey Target Learner: Adult considering registering for an elearning course. Major Goal: Participant will gain greater self-awareness about their readiness for elearning. Amount of time to complete the journey: One hour. System Requirements: Microsoft Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7, 512M RAM, high-speed internet connection, Flash player 7.0 or higher, audio card, and speaker. 2. Program Description Characteristics of Participants: The participant will be an adult learner who is considering registering for his or her first online course. He/she will read at a high school level, will have basic computer skills and know how to connect to the internet. Participants should also know how to use a printer and save a document that is downloaded from the internet. Instructional objectives: The participant will learn about his or her readiness for elearning by completing the following assessments: a) Workspace suitability (i.e. computer equipment, software, etc.) b) Work/life balance (family life, work commitments, privacy) c) Learning style, preferences & study habits d) Technology experience e) Ability to work independently (Need for social interaction with peers/teacher)

4 Storyboard Unit Title: elearning Journey Page: 1 of for this storyboard Frame # Start Screen Description: This is the introduction to the elearning journey. Introduction to the task and a brief discussion about why the participant will want to take the elearning journey. The concept for this task is a journey so graphics related to taking a journey by car were incorporated into the interface. The rationale for this page is to orient the participant to reasons they may want to take the elearning journey as a way to learn more about their readiness for learning online. Notes: The road will have a center line, clouds, etc. to provide greater graphical interest.

5 Unit Title: elearning Journey Page: 2 of for this storyboard Frame #1 Screen Description: Beginning of the Journey. A flash animation of a car travelling down a road from the perspective of a driver. Instructions are given to click on an approaching billboard to begin the first assessment. The rationale for this page is to provide an interesting graphical interface and starting point for the journey. Notes: The road will have a center line, clouds, etc. to provide greater graphical interest.

6 Unit Title: elearning Journey Page: 3 of for this storyboard Frame #A1 Screen Description: The first assessment screen is opened. The first assessment is called Your Workspace. Twenty questions will be asked related to the physical makeup of the workspace (i.e. computer equipment, office, internet connection, etc.) The rationale for this page is to ask the participant questions related to their proposed physical workspace. Questions will be designed to determine the suitability of the workspace for elearning and will focus on things such as the internet connection, computer equipment, physical space, privacy, etc. Having a suitable workspace is important for successful completion of online training. Notes: Need instruction related to setting up a form in Flash and how to write the actionscript to store the data so that it can be retrieved, viewed, compiled, downloaded and/or printed.

The rationale for this page is to give the participant some control over when they want to view their results. Some may prefer to see the results of the completed assessment right away and others may want to wait until the end. Participants are asked if they want to view their results right away or if they would prefer to wait until later to see their results. Yes Please will link to a screen that displays the results of the assessment (A1c). I ll Wait links to a screen that asks whether the participant wants to continue the journey (A1d). Notes: Need actionscript on Yes Please to retrieve data stored from completed assessment and present it on the screen in a readable format.

8 Unit Title: elearning Journey Page: 5 of for this storyboard Frame #A1c Screen Description: This screen displays the assessment results for Assessment 1 The rationale for this page is to provide the participant with immediate feedback of their assessment results. Notes: Need to learn actionscript to produce a report which summarizes the results from the database for the assessment just completed. Also, need script to save this report so can be compiled later.

9 Unit Title: elearning Journey Page: 6 of for this storyboard Frame #A1d Screen Description: This is a decision screen that asks the participant if they want to continue with the journey, Yes or No. The rationale for this page is give the participant the opportunity to either continue with the journey (A2) and go on to the next assessment or stop the journey and return to the home page (A1e). Assessments 2 (A2) through 5 (A5) will follow the same pattern as Assessment 1 (A1) shown on pages 2 through 6 of the storyboard. Notes: Need to learn actionscript that will allow the participant to stop the journey and then pickup where they left off when they return next time.

10 Unit Title: elearning Journey Page: 7 of for this storyboard Frame #B Screen Description: This screen displays the assessment report on the screen and offers an option to print out the report as well. Results of the assessments will be compiled into one report on the screen with recommendations for improvement or comments about readiness in each assessment area. The rationale for this page is to provide the participant with a complete report that summarizes their results and provides recommendations for improvement in each assessment area. There is also an option for the participant to print out the report in order to refer to it at a later date. Notes: Need to learn actionscript to produce a report which summarizes the results from the database as well as the script for downloading and printing the report.
