IRS Certified Tax Preparer Volunteers work one-on-one with clients to prepare federal and state tax returns. After completing the required training in tax law and tax software, you will be ready to help guide eligible taxpayers through the entire tax return process. Volunteers also act as a valuable resource for answering client questions about their tax return, and making sure that families are able to access important credits, such as the Earned Income Tax Credit and Child Tax Credit. No experience necessary, we will teach you everything you need to know to become a tax preparer and advocate! - Are comfortable with computers - Have good attention to detail - Want to learn a new skill, or develop and refine your tax prep skill set - Like interacting with others and meeting new people - Speak multiple languages 2) Complete 8-hour IRS tax certification training in Basic or Advanced tax law from the IRS (in-person training and self-certification options available) 3) Pass IRS Certification test 4) Weekly time commitment of at least 3 hours a week from January through April
Intake Specialist Intake volunteers are the first point of contact for clients during their tax appointment and manage the client flow for the entire tax site a very important role! Volunteers greet clients, prepare intake forms with the client, and ensure that taxpayer has all appropriate and necessary supporting documentation. - Like working with people - Are well-organized - Want experience working in an office setting (*great to put on your resume!!) - Speak multiple languages 2) Attend 2 hour training (early/mid January) 3) Pass IRS Volunteer Standards of Conduct test 4) Weekly time commitment of at least 3 hours a week from January through April 5) Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred
Scheduler: The scheduler is responsible for answering phone, screening tax clients for eligibility, scheduling appointments, and returning phone calls. We schedule over 1,000 appointments each year, so this is a huge task! All appointments are made through scheduling software, so we will teach you everything you need to efficiently screen clients and schedule their appointment. - Are comfortable using a computer - Are comfortable speaking on the phone - Want to learn how to use cloud-based software - Want office/admin training to put on your resume 2) Attend 2 hour training (early/mid January) 3) Pass IRS Standards of Conduct test 4) Weekly time commitment of at least 3 hours a week 5) Spanish or English language ability
Office Assistant: Volunteer office assistants are the backbone of the VITA program. Volunteers assist with administrative duties, such as filing and office organization, and can work on a flexible schedule. - Have good attention to detail - Can work independently - Want experience working in an office setting - Want an opportunity to practice your English 2) Attend 1 hr training (early/mid January) 3) Weekly time commitment of at least 2 hours a week
Financial Services Advocate: Many clients come to CONNECT for basic tax services, but do not take full advantage of the suite of financial products available to them. The financial services advocate is tasked with providing integrated financial products and services to clients during their tax appointment, including checking or savings accounts, savings bonds, and credit score checks. This volunteer will use tax time as an opportunity for informal financial education and increasing participation in CONNECT s economic stability programs. - Are familiar with or have worked with financial services or products - Enjoy customer service and working with people - Can work independently 2) Attend 3 hr training (early/mid January) 3) Weekly time commitment of at least 2 hours a week 4) Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred For further questions or to sign up to volunteer, please contact: Danielle Osterman dosterman@tndinc.org (617) ext
