2 3CX Phone System is a software-based IP PBX that replaces a traditional PBX and delivers employees the ability to make, receive and transfer calls. Given the huge development of 3CX market, many companies have done a test based on 3CX. This document describes how to configure Dinstar analog gateway with 3CX. Please refer the diagram for testing. In the following sections, the details will be given and two scenarios are conducted: 1) Case 1: FAX<->FXO<->3CX<->FXS<->Fax( in company) 1. Equipment connection The scenario is that FAX sends to FXO of dinstar and 3CX will forward to a port (FXS of dinstar), which the FAX machine will be attached. The fax machine will be able to receive FAXs and send FAXs. The test result is quite positive. In this scenario, the feature is tested by by-pass mode. The following section will show how to set dinstar device and 3CX. 2. Configuration 1) 3CX Configuration 1 Add fax Extension Add fax extension in fax machines 2

3 The gateway FXO port and FXS port respectively set to and 889 as accounts registered to 3CX(the registration process, please see how to set 3CX), then set Send fax to to FAX device 889 in Ports/Trunks status option, as follows: 2 Inbound Rules configuration In the left navigation tree, select Inbound Rules, then click Add DID. Configured as follows: 3

4 DID/DDI number/mask configuration used to match the fax number dialed by the user, * means match any number. The routing rules used in the corresponding FXO port, and Send fax to set the FAX device Outbound Rules configuration In the left navigation tree, select Outbound Rules to add outbound rules, configuration as follows: In this configuration page, users can configure the dial prefix number; set aside the extension of the length and number, and dialing rules. Here users can set that extension 889 dial any number and does not add any prefix. 2) Gateway Configuration Select System Parameter->Fax config in gateway configuration page. First ensure Fax mode is supported by fax. Generally there are two fax modes: T38 and Pass-Through, and default is T38 mode. Because this test used company s internal phone lines and fax lines, so in order to prevent conflict, The Fax tone detection mode is set to Callee or Caller. By default, the gateway maximum fax rate of 14400bps. If the value is set less 14400bps, then send and 4

5 receive faxes too slow, and will result in not properly receive faxes. So far each fax transmission of the configuration setting is completed. 2) CASE 2: FAX->FXO->3CX-> Equipment connection The one outside the company with a fax machine connected, the other connected to the FXO port gateway and gateway accessed internet through LAN port. 1. Configuration 1) 3CX Configuration 1 In the left navigation tree, select Fax Machines option. The default Fax extension is 888, here only need to modify the account password, add an address, and select a network interface address to FAX Server. In this case fill in is where the IP address of the 3CX server. Note: to use the feature to receive faxes, the fax can only use the default account. 2 FXO port with outside line registered on 3CX (the registration process see how to set 3CX) and a registered account in this case Set the page as follows: 5

6 Note: Set Send fax to to default fax server account Inbound Rules Configuration In the left navigation tree, select Inbound Rules, then add DID. Configuration as follows: DID is used to match the fax number dialed by the user, * means match any number. The routing rules used in the corresponding FXO port, and select Send fax to of extension Mail Server Configuration In left navigation tree, select Setting->General->Mail Server fill in information of mailbox, specifically as follows: Click OK, then the configuration of Fax-> in 3CX has been finished. Remind the users to note: the mailbox, whether it has opened the POP3 / SMTP function. The default is opened, but if not open, manually open the function to guarantee receipt of fax messages. 2) Gateway Configuration If FXO port has been registered in 3CX, then in configuration page select System Parameter->Fax Config->T38 model. So far Fax to configuration is complete, use the fax machine dial another number 6

Add Extension After getting in 3CX configuration page, select Add Extension in toolbar. Add one extension 101. Configuration as follow: 2. Add PSTN Gateway In 3CX toolbar, select Add PSTN Gateway, get into this page: 7

8 Add a name to PSTN Gateway, Brand select Generic, then click Next. Get into this page: In this page, fill in gateway IP address and number of ports need to register, then click next. Change the authentication password for a number of easy to remember, and set Inbound Route Day and Inbound Route Night to previously added extension 101. Click next. Get into outbound rules configuration page, as follow: In this case you don t need to configure outbound rules, just click finish. Then in left navigation tree, select PSTN devices option, click Edit Gateway, get into Inbound Parameters, configuration as follow: 8

9 Configure SIP Field, Variable and Custom Value as shown above. 3. Gateway Configuration Fill in gateway IP address in browser, and then get into gateway configuration page. In left navigation tree, select System Parameter -> Port Config Select the connection outside of the FXO port, fill out the registration information. After this configuration, FXO port on registration to 3CX. 4. Add FAX Extension Add FAX Extension 889 in FAX machine 9

10 Then enter the gateway configuration page and the port configuration. FXS port will connect to fax machine to add account 889, and registered to this extension on the 3CX. Restart the gateway. After finished the steps above, FXO port and FXS port to connect fax machine are registered with 3CX. 10
